  1. Hi there, only just seen your thread. I have a positive assessment for this role with Vetasses and we are due to move in 7 weeks. Unfortunately I don't think you would meet their criteria. They would not consider NEBOSH diploma, or anything that was not specific as a degree. Mine is in environmental management and a NEBOSH diploma in H&S. In the end I had to undertake an MSc in H&S and then get 12 months experience post my MSc, the 15+ years as an H&S manager was in their view, irrelevant! Hope this helps. Laura
  2. Guys, there are two separate issues here: 1-CSA (or now CMS) payments, and 2- court orders for child maintenance only the second can be enforced internationally through REMO. THE CSA although a government dept, has no jurisdiction outside of the U.K. i have just been to court to have our CSA/CMS order turned into a legally internationally enforceable child maintenance order. Without this the payments cannot be chased.
  3. Which ever avenue you choose, apply to court now for your right to leave. Court dates near us are usually 6-8 weeks in advance so the earlier you apply the sooner your date will be issued. You can sort out the rest whilst waiting. Such as trying to get hold of absent parent, building your portfolio, applying for name change and Parental responsibility (both of which need father's permission for) so either way you need to find him!
  4. Hi all, we don't move until May this year but I thought that I would start looking at the job market now, if I can secure work before we arrive that would be the perfect option, but I realise that actually being in Perth will be a huge advantage, but no harm in trying. I have just had my first rejection email, again, pleased i got a response, to say that they had shortlisted 20 out of over 280 applicants. And that there were candidates with more relevant experience. I was pleased that I heard back and not surprised there were others with more specific experience, but 280+ applicants???? That surprised me. I work in Health and Safety, is it all like this out there or just my occupation? They were a big employer so would have been an attractive offer. Laura
  5. I had planned to move just me and the two kids, but you know how long everything takes and I needed to finish my 12 months work experience post my qualification, then low and behold met someone and got married, now there are four of us moving. Being single might not be a forever thing and therefore just keep your options open! Good luck x

    7 weeks in..

Good to see your update is positive, we fly out at the end of May and the reality and fear are starting to set in! I hope our move goes as smoothly as yours has. Can I please ask how did you get your kids into school so quickly? We have been told by the school we are interested in that we can't apply for a place until we have a rental contract in place which I assumed might take us a few weeks. We have a holiday villa booked for four weeks to give us time to find a rental. Thanks Laura
  7. If you are based in the UK, depending on the contact arrangements you have in place, you are normally only allowed to take your child out of the UK on holiday for about 3 weeks before you need consent from the other parent. I'd seek some kind of legal advice unless you are just going for a normal 2-3 week holiday.
  8. Surely every child does have the right to its free education, back in the UK, but if parents chose to take the child away from "their human rights to free education" why should other tax payers pick up the bill for that? That is the advantage of going for PR, you are making a commitment to that country and then you get your free child education again. We can't have it all ways.
  9. Hi, I'm not in the same situation as we are about to emigrate to Aus in May. I have a court order in the UK to cover us when we move for maintenance as the day we leave the UK the CSA or now the CMS no longer have jurisdiction. If if you get a maintenance order it needs to be at court and enforcement will be through REMO a reciprocal enforcement organisation for these cases. Not sure if you need to go to court in the UK though to asses her earnings. If you do, it is under Schedule 1 of the Children's Act. I am am awaiting advice from the Law school at Liverpool University about how I enforce through REMO assuming my kids dad does not pay. I can let you know what their advice is. As as this is an unusual situation I couldn't find a solicitor with experience in the area so went to the university where 3rd year students practice on interesting clients and do all the research you need, and it's free! You could maybe see if anything similar exists in Aus that could help. Good luck. Laura
  10. That's a great overview, we are moving in May and plan to head to Woodvale. Which I notice is not on your list.... Why is it not on your list??? Hysteria growing..... OMG what will we find there??? I'm assuming it's just because it's neither be achy, arty or sea(y) and therefore just the boring live in the middle! xx
  11. sorry, that should have said Parleycross.
  12. Parkeycross, did you declare that you took it with you? I've read the link that was attached to the government website, and I have no evidence of where it is from, it's age or anything so a bit confused as to how I'd get those retrospectively. It it is old so assume it may predate CITES but have no idea. And again I've no certificate. Just wondering what what happens if I'd not known it was Ivory. I'd guess if you looked at it you'd never know? Or do they??
  13. Hi I have a question and am hoping someone may be able help. Growing up up my dad collected chess sets (he's been dead over 10 years) he was given one as a gift when I was a small child (40 years ago) which came from India and is made of Ivory. When my dad died my uncle took it to remember him by as it was my dad's favourite. Not because of the fact it is Ivory, none of us would condone the trade, but it is a very small beautiful set. The family who bought it for him were Indian and this was back in the day before people were educated about the issues. Anyway, just back to present day and my Uncle has now died and I have inherited the chess set back. I want to keep it for sentimental reasons but not sure if it is possible to import Ivory into Aus, which I guess is technically what I would be doing if I keep it. Can an anyone shed some light on the problem? Please i I am not looking for a debate on the ivory trade, just some helpful advice. If i am honest it looks like it's made of plastic so we have discussed whether anyone would even know as it is not boxed with a big label etc! Thanks
  14. Thanks everyone, does it mean then, bulk billing obviously you don't get charged, but do you have to pay something like a monthly fee for the privilege of having bulk billing? If this is not the case why do some Drs do bulk billing and some don't?
  15. Do these prices just apply to those with Citizenship rather than PR or is it just that you can only get student loans if you have citizenship? Thanks
  16. Hi there, we are just trying to get our heads around bulk billing and I have to say I am lost. We have PR and will be moving in May, the only thing we use here in the UK is my son is asthmatic and has an inhaler and eczema and uses moisturising and steroid cream, my daughter has hay fever and other than dental check ups that's about it (fingers crossed). But although I know we are eligible for Medicare, I can't get my head around bulk billing, and if not bulk billing I assume you pay before you leave the Drs surgery. Thanks Laura
  17. Thanks for that, I'll get looking on Google maps and make some notes. I work in Health & Safety. There doesn't look to be too much out there at the minute and I'm discounting anything that is FIFO. Hbby would kill me if we went all this way for me to fly off again!! Laura
  18. Hi there, we make the move to Perth at the end of May 16 so we aren't really in a position to start work until June, I had therefore thought that I would start applying after Easter, just in the hope of securing something before we leave the UK. However, after our reccie, we decided we liked the area of Woodvale and the secondary school there. So why do all the jobs I see seem to be in Freemantle?? or South of the River??? Now I know it will be difficult as we don't know the areas, but if I took a new job here I wouldn't move my kids school, I would just commute, but it seems such a strange thing looking for work not really knowing what that commute might look like or if we do secure work we may as well move location. My question is, what have others done? got work and then decided on location? but what if we don't secure work, we need to move and get the kids into school and then what? Just apply in the locale? Help/.... I'm going crazy looking at this, and just out of curiosity where is classed as East Perth? Thanks Laura
  19. I am interested in this thread but getting a bit confused. As I understand the poster has applied already for the Contributory Parent Visa,Mahican we know takes afew years to grant, and presumably is about 6 months away from being granted, assuming it is. I understand the waryness of selling up, incase for some reason it is rejected, but if that's what people do to be ready to go on the dot then I guess that is a personal choice. But I am getting confused about the issue (in this circumstance) of entering on a tourist visa and then just staying if it is granted. I don't see what the alternative is, unless you have to be outside of Aus when it is granted? Assuming they come as tourists and it does not get granted until their tourist visa expires, they would certainly have to leave, but as no one knows when a visa will be granted, surely lots of parents must be in a similar situation of being in Australia on holiday visiting their families when the visa is granted. or am I missing something? Is the issue simply about selling up in the UK? Surely they couldn't ship household contents etc without a visa anyway so unless they sold everything they if the visa did not come through on this trip would be going home and have to stay with friends etc?
  20. Buy the right sized crate for your dog and put his bed in it, let him sleep like that for a while and then move to shutting him in during the night. Take a few weeks to do it and before you know it he will just see it is a mini house!!
  21. hi, I have PR on H&S advisor role, but only a BSc or MSC is recognised.
  22. hi, I have been through this (and more) if you search for my posts you will get an idea. If you send me a PM I will help all I can. Laura x
  23. We fly end of May (our dogs passed first time thankfully) but we are leaving them with a dog sitter for four weeks and then Golden Arrow are picking them up from the sitters house and they fly the end of June. Personally I thought this was the best option because it will give us time to find a rental, get our furniture in etc before the dogs arrive rather than having them arrive 10 days after us and us be too busy to settle them in properly. Good luck xx
  24. Thank you everyone for your help. Laura
