  1. Thanks soo much. Yes, what a long haul it has become despite the cost involved for 143... and it is only getting worse. Based on your advice, I think we might just be better off rolling with 600 visa until my parents are absolutely firm on not making overseas home trips. So very appreciate your help. cheers
  2. Hello everyone, I applied 143 visa for my mother and father late last year in february and received the acknowledgment in early March. I am now hoping to apply for 870 visa so that they can stay with us for a longer duration without leaving Australia once they arrive. My question though is - 1. If they applied for the 3 year option, is it the visa validity 3 years or is it the total length of stay of 3 years allowed. I just want to know if they had to go back home for a period of time, would that mean that they lose that time from their visa validity, or it doesnt matter if it were the length of time that mattered. 2. Does the visa start from the day it is granted, or when they first arrive. I am trying to ascertain if it is worth spending the money on 870 if our situation were to be a little fluid. 600 visa doesnt give that certainty of stay (especially if they intend to stay for the entire length of time), however, it costs less. At the same time you just cant plan anything in stone and thus trying to find what will suit our situation best. Any input would be highly appreciated. cheers DJ
  3. Hi Peterjoel76, did you end up applying for tge extension? What was the outcome? Hoping to extend visa for my parents who are here on visitor visa. Would appreciate your response. Thanks
  4. Hi Shaan, did you end up applying for an extension? Were you granted an extension? Hope it all worked out for you. In the same boat as you and would like to extend visitor visa for my parents. If approved, what reason/documents did you need to provide? Would really appreciate any info you can provide. Thanks
  5. Thanks soo much LindaLen for sharing - really appreciate that, sincerely hope your husband is doing well presently with all the health challenges over the years. Soo glad to hear the initial medical was passed successfully - do you know how different is the initial medical test to the one when the visa is finalised?
  6. Thanks LindaH27, yes the plan is to bring both my mother and father on the one application where I will be the sponsor. On the other application it will just be my father in law with my wife being the primary sponsor. My understanding is that can be done, however, thanks for flagging it - I will check further. Thanks very much again
  7. Hi folks, when applying for a 864 visa whilst being on a tourist visa without the ‘no further stay’ condition, does the bridging visa only kick in after expiry of the tourist visa or is it straight away upon application? Thanks, DJ
  8. Thanks for confirming this, totally understand that this applies and it has been considered by us. Was just concerned how much proof is needed for the reason you tick as any documentary evidence needed from the mother in law might be problematic.
  9. Thanks for sharing this. Apologies, should have framed my question better - just want to understand whether you have to prove the reason you give. For example, is it just a matter of stating that they are living separately, or for instance under ‘other’, the mother-in-law would prefer to stay with my wife’s step brother who is well settled in India whereas my father-in-law would rather be with my wife as his relations are strained. Is it just a case os stating facts or proving them too? And does the department generally have objections when only one parent applies? Thanks a lot
  10. Can anyone advice if only one parent can apply/migrate under the aged contributory visa? Do you have to demonstrate and convince DHA as to why the second parent is not applying? My father in law who is living separately (but not divorced) from my mother in law would like to apply - want to understand if it is not seen in good light by DHA or other things to consider? What documentation may be required for the question as to why your partner is not joining you? Thanks
  11. Thanks a ton. To hear about the two cases is encouraging and a little assuring. Its tough to consider other options when you have put all your hope into being united with your parents especially being the only child. But really appreciate you sharing this. Thanks
  12. Anyone else have any experiences to share? Would really appreciate hearing people’s stories tht may be relevant. Thanks alot, DJ
  13. Hi Alan, thanks very much for the pointer towards visamedical.. I will surely explore how they can assist. Appreciate it a lot. DJ
  14. Hi folks, can anyone please share any experiences of outcomes of medicals if one has had a heart attack in the past. What are the likelihood of passing the medicals? Do you know of someone who has passed/failed health check with a heart attack history. Unfortunately, my mother (whom we have this applied 143 visa for) had a scary heart attack whilst on visitor visa last month. Whilst it stressed us all out, luckily she did not need any stents/by pass surgery and her heart function is not at a level of any concern which means we are hoping the long term prognosis is positive; however it has got me concerned re the outcome of medicals in due course. My mother has never had any other medical history, is still in her late 50’s so it all came as a shock to us and being the only child, I am really stressed at the prospects of the 143 visa. I understand the medical officer would test her condition against costings over 10 years. Would love to hear people’s experiences and if they can share anything relevant based on medical outcomes of similar heart conditions that they may be aware of? Look forward to hearing from you all. Thanks very much.
  15. Thanks very much for the response. Unfortunatey dont have ration card at this point in time. Unable to apply for a new ration card from Australia. Any other options? I can only think of a stat dec from myself, mum and dad to this effect?
