  8. Ok.Im back in Aus .My partner has decided she would like to come live here too. How does this work?Visa, age limit, skill sets, etc etc etc. Does anyone have a simple A,B,C of the steps involved in this? My partner thinks that as were in a r/ship[albeit-long distance] and im a Perm Resident[but not a citizen],she can apply to just come live here with me?? Any simple basic help with this would be real helpfull thanks guys.
  9. The good old CSA reminded me today that i ticked "Permanently leaving Australia"............god,talk about big brother watching you..............
  10. Use your Illusion................... Back in Oz,could only handle the UK for 8 weeks.Totaly different world to 32 years ago as i remembered it.Shame realy, but ill never die wondering now.
  11. I ticked "Permanently leaving Australia" on the departure card when i left. Will this have any implications if i wished to return???
  12. Yes,very true! I was laid off here on Friday,it has put the whole experience of coming back to the UK in turmoil!!!!!!!!!!!!! I understand that about the residency now,the penny dropped, online applications cost $300,all good. I want to go back to Oz..............
  13. Ok.to sum up: British born 32 years as a Aus perm resident[but not a citizen] Now in UK,since 2012. Have no current RRV. Have my mother, couple of brothers,my kids living in Oz,what steps if any to keep my Perm residency of Aus? thanks!
  14. After 32 years i returned to the UK. Dont get me. wrong ,i love Australia ,would have died for it many times as a firefighter. But.... 1. I found my industry[manufacturing] going down the gurglar....our company introduced the day off here & there[no work] back in 2008.Today they are in Receivership. 2.People seperated with kids involved, get ripped apart by the CSA,with no help from other Gov depts,to keep your head above water. Just my own experience,my 2 cents!
  15. Gday! Anyone dealt with them back here in UK? I have been trying to sort this out for weeks, emails, phone calls back to Oz...gggrrrrrrrrrr! Even the local CAB here, have no idea how this works.... Before i left Oz ,i was told multiple times by Legal aid Child support Lawyers, that Oz has a reciprocating agreement with the UK in regard to collecting payments.......... Ideas anyone? Thanks.
  16. What i meant was my Aussie workmates were keeping it quiet..................................
  17. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-11-02/talks-continue-on-future-of-car-parts-company/4349344 So,back here in UK,working full time ,loving it!!!Feel sorry for my workmates in Oz,i spent 15 years at that location...............Type of headline Aussies like to keep quiet..
  18. Just loves how every Thread goes way off topic..........................
  19. Totaly agree with 99% of this post, very good reading, hitting the nail on the head! One reason i left Australia,i personaly could not AFFORD to live there any longer......................... * On a side note is there a stubbie holder for pint glasses to keep them cold just a lil longer?
  20. Yes,im back in Bideford now,after 32 years away....!
  21. I did the parent /classroom /teacher/ helper/kinder for 10 years or more, then i went to CFA firefighter for a few years, which i will continue over here in the UK..
  22. So ,off the boat, unpacked settled in- 12 months down the track, kids in school, house is quiet...................what to do? Being a part of your community can be any of the following;afterall you move into a new area /town/city etc you need to assimilate. Rotary Volunteer Lions Club Volunteer St vinnies Volunteer. There are multitudes of organizations! SES Volunteer CFA Volunteer Parent /teacher helper @ local primary school. Point im making here is that to be part of a community ,you become part of a community. You meet great people, its an Aussie thing ,you Volunteer ,you dont get paid, you do it coz you belong there. Its your town ,you look out for it.
  23. From my days in OZ,Areas that Brits were encouraged to move to were Melton,Sunbury etc[Nth & west of the city].But that was 30 odd years ago, most newer developments are now a lot further out from CBD,so be prepared for gridlocks,as the roads infrastructure hasnt caught up with the rate of development.
  24. Ok,to clarify. GMC,Black & Decker power saws commanded bargain basement prices in Oz,from the local Home Hardware, with a set of drills thrown in or an esky or something. GMC & even Ozito ,the "lesser" brands would fetch $40-$60 as a powersaw.I saw brands @Homebase for About 55 pound each. Cordless drills are 1.5 times the price here in the UK.
