  3. Hi nic 1171, can i be nosy and ask why you would need to sit the general if u already have the Academic. Don't understand why you would get extra points for Sitting General aswell as academic. The listening and speaking are the same for both but the reading and the writing are different and apparently slightly easier in the General as opposed to the academic. I take it you needed the 8 in academic to get the 20 points!
  4. Thanks mojoanna, I was thinking that but when I've looked into it, the reading is the one that is marked by computer therfore, its right or wrong. Had it have been the writing that I scored poor on then I could have gained an extra mark by having a remark. I'm now wishing that I had got 6.5 in the writing and 7 in the reading lol. I will just have to sit the whole thing again, so frustrating!
  5. Lucky you, I think people whose 1st language isn't English just get the books and study, study, Study. Wheras I thought I would be ok. The reading test seems to let most native English speakers down, I found that I didn't have enough time and never finished the paper. Had I have finished the paper then I probably would have got the required scores. Better luck next time. Just be thankful that you dont need it
  6. I hope you get the required score on the re-mark, good luck. I sat the test for the 1st time on 2/3/13. I did attend a 1 day IELTS course in Manchester the week before which was useful but I still didn't get the required scores. L 8, R 6.5, W 7, S 9. So frustrating that I need to sit it again for the sake of 1/2 point. The guy who took us for the IELTS course did give us some hints and tips. I hope I dont sound patronizing here but with regards to the writing you get more marks for intro. main body ( 2 paragraphs) and a conclusion. Dont waist time counting words, if you don't have huge writing and fill the paper then you will probably achieve the required wordage. Good Luck again, Im going to rebook for May, Fingers crossed
  7. Do You not need to sit it, i'm assuming if your on this site then you must be wanting to emmigrate! Its the International English Language Test. People assume (including me) that if their 1st language is English then they will pass it with flying colours. The test can be quite difficult if you don't know what to expect. 4 categories to the test, Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. You need to score at least a 7 in each category, the highest mark is 9. If applying for Skilled Migration Visa either 189 or 190 then most people need to sit it
  8. I totally agree, its big business and they are making a fortune out of it.
  9. Hi all I got my results for the Academic IELTS today and i am so disappointed. I need 7's for ANMAC and got 8 L, 9 S, 7 W and 6.5 reading. Overall score of 7.5. I'm so frustrated that I need to sit the whole test again for the sake of 1/2 point. Can anybody tell me whether the overall score is relevant, I wasn't expecting an overall score.
  10. OMG, I sat the Academic IELTS today for the 1st time and it was awful. I'm a nurse and need 7's in all 4 sections. The reading was the worse and I believe this section causes problems for lots of people. Has anybody passed it 1st time? I'm pretty sure that I will need to resit! Any advice, hints or tips would be much appreciated xx
  11. Hi, the 457 visa gives you remporary residency for 4 years, but you can apply for PR after 2 years in. My understanding is that we pay for it, then there are the medicals on top. I suppose it would depend on the company sponsoring you though because some offer generous relocation packages and some offer nothing. The 457 visa is not that expensive, i think maybe abou £500 then medicals extra. Somebody please correct me if im wrong, im also quite new to the emmigration process Good luck
  12. Ps, I only appled for Registration on the 20th of August and got a in-principle letter on the 8th October. Its gathering the info that seems to take the time. They seem to be processing quite quickly at the moment.
  13. Hi I have just applied to sit the IELTS, the information ive read says its valid for 3 years. Having said that, I applied for registration with AHPRA last August with a view to going out on a temporary 457 visa. Registration in principle was granted pending a visa. I didn;t need to sit the IELTS for the registration so long as I could prove that I had studied and been assessed using the Enlish Language for a period of 5 years. Therfore, a letter from your high school stating that you attended for 5 years and was taught and assessed using the English Language would be sufficient. Or if your high school no longer exists then a letter from your further education and tertiary education would suffice. I am currently only needing to sit the IELTS because i have decided to go down the skilled migration route (from 2009 everbody applying for a skilled migration visa needs to sit the test). If you have already got your visas then you shouldn't need to sit the exam. Thats my understanding of it anyway, hope this makes sense
