  1. Hi guys, Just a quick question...My hubbie and I are flying to Perth in about 3 weeks time and I've just had a bit of a panic about excess baggage! We're flying with Emirates who will not allow us to check in another suitcase without charging us£35 per extra kilo!! Whaaat!!!! So anyway, I've been doing some research as we just want to send a couple of boxes with extra clothes, towels, shoes, bed sheets etc and a few courier companies came up with pretty good quotes. Inter-parcel I think have popped up on here a few times so I phoned them and they have said that it is prohibited to send personal effects to Australia and that I will probably find that with most couriers!! Has anyone else done this and have any tips for sending excess baggage?? I've now spoken to a few others who definitely will send these sort of things but just wanted to let others know if this is what you were planning! Thanks!
  2. Ahhhh! Thanks so much, this thread has actually made my day!!! I miss my horses sooo much, I grew up with horses, my mum and my sister and I used to all ride together but I havent owned one or ridden regularly since my last was put down several years ago. I am making it my aim when I get over to Oz (we arrive next month! YAY!!!) to get back in the saddle! I will be in Perth so if anyone has any hints, tips and advice about where to start it would be great!!
  3. Just wanted to push this back up as I would be very interested to know if anyone has any info!

    Wellies

Hi, Really random silly question for you all ... Is it worth bringing wellies over to Perth?? Are they handy for bush walks to stop snakes biting your ankles ( Lol!) or is it just to hot that you cant bear wearing something like that? Just wondering if its worth them taking up valuable clothes space thats all...! Thanks!
  5. Thanks for posting this! We were wondering the exact same thing and posted on perthpoms just the other day! We were really worried that £20k wouldn't be enough if neither of us can find work quickly. We should have around £20k (not including flights which are already paid for) to keep us going for as long as possible until we find work or run out of money! We will be on a really tight budget with no luxuries and hope at will keep us going for a couple of months. Good luck with everything.
  6. Soooo glad it all went well at work for you. I can't wait to hand in my notice but we aren't going till may next year and it's soooo hard keeping my mouth shut and pretending nothings going on!! If you don't mind me asking, are you going to new Zealand on an Aus visa and if so which one??? We were kind of the other way round to you - our original intention was to go to NZ but really struggled to find work from the UK. We've been to Aus before and loved it so thought if we move there at least it's nearer to go on holiday to NZ!! Wishing you really good luck for your move.
  7. ... 251 days to go (not that we're counting!!!) Fly out on 5th May via a 3 day break in Dubai!! CANT WAIT!!
  8. Congratulations again to everyone who got their visas -a nice little bank holiday prezzie for you!!
  9. Well congratulations again to everyone who has had their visas granted!! Its so nice to see everyones happy messages!!!
  10. Wow! Havent been on here for a few days and its great to see lots of visas being granted!! It looks like there are also a few people very close so hopefully there will be lots more grants over the next few days!! HUGE congratulations to everyone!!! :wubclub:
  11. Thanks for that! Got the labels- sent our passports off the other day and actually got them back yesterday. It's nice seeing it in our passports! We used Go Matilda too and I have to say they were fab! Thats a good plan, I've already started phoning around a few people so I will start grilling them now! Well best of luck with your move too.
  12. Yeah from what people have been saying on here I decided to do it so sent them off yesterday. Thought its better to have more info when we get over there rather than scrambling around trying to find stuff! Thanks. Hope you're enjoying Queensland!!
  13. Hi, our visa was granted the day after we uploaded our PCCs so hopefully you dont have much longer to wait! Good luck.
  14. Oh no I hadn't seen that, thanks very helpful!! Well I've got a pretty good list going of things to do, should keep me occupied for a while!! I don't want to wish time away but it does seem to be going so slowly at the moment! Well good luck with your move, hope it all goes smoothly for you.
  15. Our agent has said that we dont need to have stamps put in our passports as it is all electronic now, however lots of people on here have advised getting this done anyway. I do think it would be a good idea to do this just so that we have something official showing the visa. Is it def worth doing? I can look it up but does anyone know how I actually do this?
  16. Thanks for that, a couple of things I hadnt thought of on there!! We are lucky I suppose that we dont have a house to worry about selling and hopefully we can just chuck a load of stuff in various friends/family members garages until we are ready to ship it over so that also helps! I'm not really panicing at the moment, it seems ages away and time is just going so slowly but I dont want it to be a couple of months beforehand and I'm rushing around trying to organise stuff!! Thanks for your reply, good luck with everything and I hope you get through all your lists!
  17. Fab! Thanks so much for this, really appreciate it. Good luck with the move, hope all goes well for you.x
  18. We used go Matilda and they were great for us. Our case wasn't majorly complicated but there was a little hiccup with skills assessment and they were just really helpful the whole way through.
  19. Oh noooo, poor you. Sorry I can't really help but I really hope someone else can give some advice and you get something sorted soon. Good luck with it all.
  20. Also if anyone knows from past experience any obscure or random things that we might not necessarily think of it would be quite useful to get this going - random things to think about, whats worth brining, whats not worth bringing etc etc!! Thaaaanks!!
  21. Thanks Jit7, really appreciate that. Don't suppose you can remember the website your husband used? I can find lots of check lists but I was ideally looking for something like you say with a breakdown of time (6 months to go etc) no worries if not!! When are you off to Brisbane? Luckily we don't have a house to sell so can just up and go but being sensible and staying here for a while to pay off the dreaded credit card first!!! Best of luck with your move, hope you get all your stuff sorted too.
  22. Ha ha ha! Still can't stop smiling so I will accept a thumbs up instead of a tip at the moment!! Good luck to you with everything.
  23. Hi, Our visa was granted on Friday! Yay!! So we have had a lovely weekend celebrating and are ready to get our flights booked up-soooo exciting. We will be heading to Perth on a 176 in June next year. I am now starting to put together a 'to do list' of things to do before we go in June but also things to think about soon after we arrive. It would be fab if anyone can just give me a few pointers of what and when I should think about doing things-don't want to miss anything! I am sure things will pop up that I haven't even thought of! Thank you so much in advance for your help.
