1. Hi We are a family of 6 and have just moved to North Lakes. I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good doctors.
  2. HI. I am moving hopefully to North Lakes in 4weeks with my husband and 4 boys aged 2.5, 4, 13 & 15. Does anyone have any information on the local football team for my 13 year old please. He has played since he started school. The thought of him not playing would be torture for him. I understand the season runs from April to September. He would hate to think he would have to wait until April. Do they train in the summer season and do they do summer tournaments as they do in the UK? Any help to this questions would be great thank you.
  3. Hi. I am going to Oz in 4 weeks with my husband (who is Australian) and 4 children. My older 2 are from my first marriage. They do not see their dad, their decision due to personal reasons. I first applied to remove them from the country last August (2012). The problem I had was I had no contact details for him. I had to prove to the courts I had actively searched for him. After contacting his family who all denied knowing where he was I had to hire a private investigater. He managed to find him and we went to court in December that year. We agreed in court that day luckily, but still at a overall cost of £1500. The judge did say that with these cases it nearly always ends with the children being granted the right to leave the country with the mother but if the dad does not agree then it can be a lengthy and expensive process. What we did agree was that although they do not want to see him at present I would continue to encourage them to and I knew have a contact for him so I can keep him up to date on our progress. You need to prove to the court that it is the right decision for the children to make the move. I hope it all goes well for you. Good luck.
  4. Hi I first logged our visa in January. I was assigned a CO that week. We had our medicals done in April as we were not allowed to do it sooner also done police check that month. I never filled any medical forms in my CO assigned us HAP ID numbers to use for our medicals. I did not lodge our visa online I sent in a paper copy. You do not get the medical results. You will only hear anything about them if there is a problem or if you need further tests. We received our visa 2 months later. Ours was a partner visa. You did not state which visa you applied for so your process may be different. I hope it all goes well.
  5. Hi i just came across this post. We are coming to Brisbane possibly North Lakes in the first week of September. We are a family of 6. Me, my husband and 4 boys aged 15, 13, 4 & 2.5. We would be interested in coming along to meet people if that is ok?
  6. HI Thank you for your reply. It is very reassuring to hear from someone who is there and enjoying it. I have heard lots of different reviews on NL. After reading peoples replies we have decided to find some temporary accommodation near by so we have time to look around before committing. A meet up would be great once we arrive and get settled. One more question if that is ok? How was the flight with the children being so young. I am dreading it!
  7. HI Thank you for your replies. I have heard lots of different reviews on NL. After reading peoples replies we have decided to find some temporary accommodation near by so we have time to look around before committing.
  8. Hi He has not secured a job yet. We were looking at NL more for the children going to school with there being so many Brits there. We are staying with his family in Hervey Bay for first week to get over flight with children. We were going to come down to North Lakes then and find some temporary accommodation near by to see what we think of the area or surrounding area. But I think we will wait for my husband to find work before we make our final decision. Thank you for the advise.
  9. HI We are arriving in Brisbane in 6 weeks. We are a family of 6. I was looking for some advice on locations. Having done hours of research North Lakes is coming out as the winner. I would be grateful for any advise on this area. My husband needs to be close enough to commute to CBD. 3 of my children are school age so schools are an important factor. Their ages are 2.5, 4, 13 & 15. Also activities for my younger child and sports for the older ones. Also advise on anyone who has done this move with children and how easy/hard it was please. Thank you
  10. Hi What views have anyone got on The Lakes and North Lakes State college. We are not sure which one to look at for the children. I assume it depends which area in North Lake you live in. So we thought we should research the schools before we look at the rentals. When you look at the schools they both seem good so was wondering if anyone could give us some feedback. Thank you
  11. Hi I was wondering how you went about finding accomadation as soon as you got there? Did you all have places sorted before you arrived?
  12. Thank you for your reply. I was wondering if there is a lot of work in Brisbane? My partner has not secured anything yet but we are still going out when the house is sold.
  13. Thank you for your reply it has been really helpful. It helps to know information from people who are already there. I wanted to ask what the houses were like there. Are they good sizes with good sized gardens or do they vary? Is property reasonable there? Is the price of living a lot more expensive? I would be grateful if you can answer any of these questions. Thank you

    helloooo

Hi We are also new to PIO. We are looking at moving to Brisbane as soon as we sell our house. We have 4 children so worried about everyone settling in and finding good schools in a nice area but not too expensive! My partner is form Australia, the rest of us are going out on a 1 year visa and make a decision after that time to buy there or back in the UK. We are looking to rent in North Lakes. Let me know how you get on.

Hi

We are new to PIO, joined yesterday. My partner is from Australia and we are looking at living there in the next 6 months to a year. We have 4 children aged 13, 12, 3 and 1. The older children are the reason we have put it off for so long. They say they are ready to move now so going to put the house on the market soon as off we will go. We are going out on a years visa at first as I promised the older children we would give it a year and then decide to buy in Oz or Uk. My partners parents and sister live in Brisbane and his brother in Sydney. I also have family in Perth. We have decided to live in North Lakes in Brisbane. Do you know where you want to live yet?

I can not wait to get out there but a little nervous about getting all the children settled and getting to meet people myself as I wont to working at first. We are doing it to get a better life for the children and enjoy more outside family life. What are your plans?

  18. Hi We are looking at moving to Brisbane from UK. We have been looking at North Lakes. We have 4 boys aged 14, 12, 3 and 1. I have so many worries about moving the children. We currently live in a nice area with really good schools. Can anyone tell me what the area is like and what the schools and education is like please? Also has anyone else made the move with children of similar ages and how did they cope with school and making friends. I have a full social life with the 2 younger boys with football, rugby, swimming, mums groups and music. Are there may groups like this in the area? Could anyone tell me how they coped with moving and how they met new people and if it was easy please? I really can not wait to come out but I just worry about meeting new people as I will not be working and my children adjusting. Can anyone help me with these questions please or suggest other places that are nice to live in. My partner will be working in Brisbane so not too far from there but also not too expensive. We want lots of things for the children to do.
