  1. Hi i know i applied before the transitional programme and exam was officially in for overseas applicants, for me it was sept 2012, but that was the same form I was sent except I was granted an exemption. I think the form is the same but whether or not they grant it may be different now. Not aure if this helps?! zoe
  2. Great, send me a PM with your email address and I can tell you a bit more about the practice and give you the website. If lathing else I'm always happy to help with knowledge about Melbourne if you don't know it already! zoe
  3. Hi everyone i feel your pain after doing this a year ago!! I was lucky then as I just scraped through before the exam. i think I said earlier I work in a private practice. I spoke to my boss who owns the practice and as there is a shortage of good clin psychs he said he would not be put off by the supervision requirement. However, you have to be registered with medicare either as a general psych or clinical psych to be able to provide services where clients get a medicare rebate, which pretty much most do, although there are some who pay outright or use private health insurance. So it may mean working for someone getting experience on supervisors cases. With medicare a psychologist can't use their number and allow someone training to see the client, so you would have to be in the room with a registered psychologist managing the case. I don't know how that fits with how much autonomy AHPRA require for the 3 months but I suspect it would be ok. It is probably worth contacting private practices and asking if they would have you on placement for 3 months knowing that you would work for them after this period. My boss said he would do this (if anyone wants Melbourne!). the public system is like our NHS CAMHS and AMHS teams, it's very similar. My understanding is that's where trainees go on placement so I imagine you could get 3 months supervision in one of those teams. Look for "medicare local services" in each council area. Some of the youth services in victoria are called headspace, not sure if that's their name in other Australia States. Look on psych recruitment and seek for clin psych jobs then ring them and ask if they would consider you as you are an experienced clin psych but need the 3 months supervision. I bet some would. I still have people ringing me about jobs I enquirer about a year ago. hope this helps. As I said of anyone is heading to Melbourne give me a shout, we are interested in someone starting this year but may wait till next year too zoe
  4. Hi everyone, I started this thread initially and have now been in Melbourne over a year. Clin psychs are definitely in demand here. I spoke with my boss whoa ages our practice and for the right psych he wouldn't be put off at all by the 3 months internship. I. Private practice it would be hard to be paid for it as you won't have a medicare number which is what you need to deliver services so clients get a rebate. In public services you don't need this so that may be a better place for the internship. if any of you are coming to Melbourne any time soon, I'd be really interested in hearing from you as we have a job going in our practice at the moment for an experienced clin psych. Happy to try and help or answer any questions! zoe
  5. Hi Laureline i emigrated to Melbourne last year and a uK clinical psych and am working as a clinical psychologist here. PM me your info about your UK qualifications and experience as I may be able to help re: a position, depends where in Melbourne you are Best wishes Zoe
  6. Hi sounds like a good plan! Employers don't care what job your visa says, they only want to see you're registered with AHPRA as a Clin psych. Then you get paid better as Clin psychs charge higher rates for treatments. i did my EOI after I was registered with AHPRA, I don't think you can change profession on your visa application once you've done your EOI but for you that won't matter. You need to do AHPRA forms to the letter exactly how they say and you need original transcripts for degrees not just certificates, sent direct to them from the unis, not via you so you might want to start those enquiries. Also, you have to pay full AHPRA fees whatever point in the year you are registered. Bear that in mind as I paid a years in October and they were due again in November so depending on when you're going hang on till November! Your wife will need supervision and CPD records but you can get a supervisor to provide an overall letter if you don't want to provide 10 years worth of supervision records for example! Anyway, she can pm me about all that! feel free to ask anymore questions, good luck! zoe
  7. Hi, I started the thread and have now emigrated successfully as a clinical psychologist 272311. I have been here since February on a state sponsored visa. It is possible if you have patience!! After getting your assessment as psychologist NEC with the APS. You then apply to AHPRA for registration as a psychologist, then for endorsement as a clinical psychologist. I did this in 2 stages but believe you can submit both together. Once you understand it the info you have to send is ok just thorough. You apply for endorsement using the transition form. I don't know if there is equal likelihood for both types of psychologists for getting visa but clinical are definitely more in demand job wise and salary wise. Some states won't sponsor psychologists NEC but will clinical for example. Also, you can't work out here as a clinical without doing this process with AHPRA and getting registered so your wife might as well do it as she'll get paid less as a general psychologist. Also, with all the info and references she'll need it will be easier to do whilst in uk. Once out here its fab salaries and jobs a plenty in my experience!! Feel free to ask any questions. Your wife can pm me if you like and ill help with the forms as much as possible
  8. Hi I am currently in Melbourne on a 190 which was granted in December (2012). The Victoria website has a table where it tells you how much you need to have depending on how many dependants etc. Your funds can be in savings and posessions, eg jewellery, house. car, TVs etc! You put a figure on the form that obvioulsy needs to be in line with their recommendation. We were never asked to prove our money nor provide bank statements or anything like that and from what I heard at the time nobody else got asked to prove it for a 190. Don't forget the figure they give is on dollars! Hope this helps
  9. Hi My family and I moved to Melbourne on the 1st of feb so are newbies but going through the whole set up process right now! I'll write a longer post tomorrow as its quite late here now! A lot of your estimates seem ok but car rental has cost us 700+ with full insurance for 2 weeks. We got a great priced short term let for $114 a night which is cheap. Been happy here. We sorted our long term rental in aspendale which is bayside next along from parkdale. We got that within a week but its not ready until 25th. We had to push for that date too as its when we move out of here. We have been buying furniture and its quite pricey but probably similar to uk. I'll pm you more of the financial details if u like? I'm happy to give you my number if you want to chat about it as may be easier to ask all your questions that way?!we have been round lots of Melbourne and loved the feel of the bayside suburbs like mordialloc, parkdale, aspendale. We're in bayswater now and Vermont and wheelers hill near here are nice but commute is harder to CBD. pm me if you want to chat?! I have moved with my 2 girls 6 and 3 so have sorted school and childcare too! zoe

  16. Hi Rosie i had a deadline for a report so had been working until 4am and saw the visa email come through about 3.30am! I then couldn't sleep and was having to get up at 7am! I left my job at the end of September and took the gamble we would get the visa. I've been doing some self employed bits of work since then, good job we got it! 20. Hi jbb  Sorry you didn't hear today. It's rubbish on a Friday isn't it when u have to wait again till Monday. i am planning to go to Melbourne, hopefully in January with my husband and 2 girls 6 and 3(by then). I feel like there must be so much to organise but can't think what it all is yet so need to start a list! No the case officer didn't do any verification. I attached a letter from a manager in work, not HR as some people have said causes a problem but it didnt't for me. I also attached a p60 or end of tax year payslip for every year of my 10 years employment and some invoices from my recent self employment. No checks. where are you heading? Good luck
  21. Thanks everyone! Jbb, I got my co night of 27/28th and then visa next night 28/29th, crazy isn't it! The night she contacted me to introduce herself she asked for passports and birth cert for my family, that was it. I'd front loaded everything but my medicals were referred. When she contacted me the next night i thought it was for more info but was shocked toread my grant!! I'm so happy! I'm hoping when I see this thread tomorrow you have yours! d4ddyc001 has the same co as us too, she must be busy!!
  22. Yes hopefully, we're trying to think about it and plan but hopefully mid jan! I need to look at some of those posts with the checklists in them! Feel a bit unprepared.
