  1. Thanks for the info folks, I didnt realise Ihad to produce evidence of how long I've been in the job for, I knew I had to at some point but not this early, every day is a school day isnt it. Oh well I guess I better contact the tax office tomorrow, thanks.
  2. I've been looking through the TRA guidelines as we're preparing our 2nd application, got a question regarding proof of paid employment. They dont state how far back you need to provide this information for. I have last years P60 and all payslips for the last year, I have other payslips and P60's but not them all. I also have a reference from my employer stating how long I have worked there and how much I get paid. Will this be sufficient?
  3. Hi, Just a quick question for all you TRA experts, we applied last year and got an unsuccessfull outcome. We're preparing a second attempt, we got double copies of our certified document last march and just wondering if they'll still be ok or if we will need more recent one's, my thinking is if they're certified it doesn't matter about the date but any info will be appreciated, thanks.
  4. I am currently a gas fitter (12 years) but i served my apprenticeship as a mechanical fitter/turner and did this for 10 years, I've been applying but not getting too much response. I am looking at moving our family to Perth. our friends moved there earlier this year and they say there's loads of jobs for mechy fitters. fingers crossed.
  5. Thanks FIFI69, Ive got an expo in Glasgow on sunday so will hopefully get some job leads there, I'm just glad you come back with a positive reply
  6. Having had an unsuccesfull outcome from the TRA I am now planning on going down the route of a 457 sponsored visa. From what I have read I am still slightly confused so need a couple of things cleared up. Firstly, do I still need a succesfull TRA outcome and do I need to pass my IELTS exam? I hope its just a case of finding a company to sponsor me then off we go, or is that just too easy.
  7. Well done Jamie, I sat mine on 4 Aug and the reading section was very tough, got my results today but the reading was off the mark. have a beer and celebrate!!!
  8. Hi All, I got my IELTS results today, here is what I got Listening 8 Reading 6.5 Writing 7.5 Speaking 8.5 Overall 7.5 Now I'm gathering as I got 7.5 overall I take it as a pass for 10 points, however, I did read on here that it goes with your lowest score which means I got a paltry 6, now obviously I need to brush up on my reading skills but if 7.5 overall gets me 10 points I'm happy. Can anyone shed any light on this?
  9. Our friends recently moved from UK to perth, their dog was in a quarantine station in byford, dont know the costs involved though.
  10. I sat it too yesterday for the first time and it was quite an experience, the reading section was the most stressfull IMO. The speaking part was rather daunting too, I didn't do much research on it TBH, just a quick look on you tube. When I had to do my 1 minute speach I started sweating all of a sudden but hey ho it'll all come out in the wash.
  11. Having sat it yesterday I would like to confirm that the reading part was a total brain mincer, I think I done not too bad on it for a first attempt but I'll find out in due course, The listening section I found easy but missed one answer, (I had a wee guess at it though).
  12. I sit it tomorrow in Edinburgh for the first time, not to confident I must say as not long back from holidays and not had a great deal of time to study!
  13. Thanks Rach, I was in contact with them today and they were very helpfull. Hopefully they can sort out my predicament!
  14. Mmmmm, thats something else to look into, although gas engineers in GB have to renew their qualifications every 5 years, I dont have an NVQ, it's maybe worth looking into how much more work would need to be done to get this, Thanks
  15. I was surprised myself, didn't expect anything till end of July although ive seen a few others around the same timescale posted today!
  16. Thanks very much for your advice candygirl it's much appreciated, as far as I can make out if your trade is on the TRA list then thats who you've got to use isn't it? It would be great if I would be able to use an easier agency like VETASSES but not sure if I could, will look into in though. It's becoming all too a common theme on here with TRA failing the majority of people although this may not be the case and it just seems that way!!!!
  17. we visited them earlier on in the year and they said it was do-able, however friends of ours who emigrated last week were very helpful and knowledgable so we thought we had it cracked but hey, it's the TRA we're talking about, Oh to save a couple of grand. I think I'll be on the phone tomorrow lol!
  18. thats sounds quite promising Lebourvellec and thanks for your very usefull input. I was thinking about contacting overseas immigration in Edinburgh about this as it looks like if it's going to work it may be quite complicated. Always good to get some positive feedback, thanks. It does surprise me though that Australia has a huge skills shortage and yet someone like myself (not being bigheaded) has 2 trades and they make things so difficult.
  19. Feeling rather deflated today, got the very unwanted unsuccesfull TRA outcome letter. however here's my story. Applied for TRA on 16th April, TRA received on 23 April. I applied as a gasfitter as I have been working with British gas for the last 12 years, Prior to that I was a Mechanical fitter/turner, fully time served, ONC and half an HNC in mechanical engineering, I done this for 11 years. After redundancy I booked up for the college to train as a gas engineer, my original trade/apprenticeship was recognised and therefor I could qualify without having to complete an apprenticeship as a gas fitter. There's where the problem lies, TRA say as I dont have an official apprenticeship as a gas fitter I am not suitably qualified. I wasnt planning on being a gas fitter in oz and I was going to return to my original trade as a mechanical fitter/turner but as I have not been working as this for 12 out of the last 24 months I couldn't apply as this. The only way around this that I can see is if I return to my original trade and do this for 12 months and reapply, or I could try and get a sponsor 457 visa which I very much dont want to do. Hopefully I'm missing something and all you helpfull POIers could point me in the right direction Here's hoping!!!!

  21. Cheers Cal, I had a look at the link, I think you've just reinforced the thought of me going back to being a fitter, thanks for your input.
  22. Thanks for your reply, we are planning on moving to Perth, there appears to be quite a demand for mechanical fitters there. as far as I can make out I can get my TRA as a gas fitter but as long as I have a PR visa (190) I can do whatever I like when we get there. I'm just making sure there wont be a spanner thrown in the works as I dont really fancy going to college to requalify as a gas fitter.
