  1. I have flow to Oz three times with little people and have some knowledge of the regulations , It is against flight safety rules for a child to sleep on the floor . If discovered the parent will be asked to wake the child and put them in their seat or on your lap , if you hit proper turbulence you will soon see why . If using a Childs car seat it must carry the FAA approval sticker and have approval from the air line . 18 months ago their were no approved seats for sale in the UK . Now people will have anecdotal evidence to the contrary but these are the rules at present . Ask for the basinet if you can ,it is too small and your kid won't fit in but you will get a bulkhead seat at least. I used to fly business as well but I have kids now and will never be able to afford again , did fly business once at the beginning with a 15 month old , what a monumental waste of money that was didn't watch a film , didn't get time to eat the food and didn't even recline the seat:cry: And finally if you are relying on your child/children sleeping during the flight ; good luck with that ;-)
  2. I found them on the net as PDF's along with a bunch of other stuff like the Verification guide lines , Selection of cables and of course the Wiring rules and down loaded them I then put them in iBooks on my iPad and now I have them for free with a basic search facility . Simples . http://www.acima.asn.au/downlights/secret/3000.pdf Now if I could just get some one to give this level of genius an apprenticeship despite my age that would be terrific .

And another good one is , if you must smoke in your car keep your windows closed to stop hot ash being pulled out and igniting that beautiful scenery you are driving through and obviously NEVER throw the cigaret butts out of the window.
  4. If the UK license is still valid and has your current address on it and hasn't been withdrawn for any reason it will usually remain valid until the holders 70th birthday unlike the photo id cards which only last 10 years or until you change address which ever comes first. So if you can still hold on to your paper licence I guess you can feel quite smug , mind you you will never be able to hire a car and as originally asked driving abroad might prove a bit problematical seeing as no serving police officer in the world would have ever seen a non photo ID card.
  5. Bayswater are cheep but these people are cheeper and are very relaxed abut length of hire and http://www.cottesloecarhire.com.au We used them earlier this year and they were certainly the cheapest at the time and like I said very relaxed.
  6. We used Crown , not the cheapest quote but offered the most complete service with their own facilities at the other end ( Perth ) so we chose them on a best quality basis ,also you say west of Scotland but not where we were super remote in Argyll and a lot of people didn't want the hassle of traveling to the boonies to pack for us .
  7. I'm ex Strathclyde my self well ex Scottish Fire Service for about 2 months before I came out here to Perth in June and the problem here is the Career Fire Service as they call it is relatively tiny compared to UK fire and rescue levels of manning , they simply don't need to recruit , they have all the fire fighters they need and almost no management above Station Commander it's a very paired down system . What role do you have ?
  8. Thanks for the replies , makes a bit more sense now .
  9. I have just bean " told " that when you personal import a car to Oz you must buy new tyres once there to bring the car in . Sounds strangely fishy to me but has any one else heard this ?
  10. Hi Craig Further to my enquiry about my Range Rover Supercharged my wife wants to know how much it will cost to bring her Volvo V70 over, now I know the model was never sold in OZ so it will be a bit of a stretch ; Volvo V70 T5 Ocean Race Manual Aircon Nov 2005 62,000 miles About £6000 in the UK. fairly sure it's a bad idea but she is absolutely determined to bring it and it owes us nothing . Many thanks Axle.
  11. Thanks Craig for the quote on my Range Rover, I already have permanent residency and my wife is from Perth so we are not under any time restraints to move just that it will be in about one year or less so I will defiantly be contacting you to start the process when I have dates . Kind regards Axle.
  12. Hi Will be moving to Perth within the year so ; Range Rover Vogue 2007 Supercharged Air Con UK value £28,000 Oz valur $75,200-$82,600. No idea about the costs at all so a bit of a brake down would be loverly , Thanks.
  13. Hi all , just joined you forum after finding on search for immigration information. short bit about myself ; just got my permanent residence about a months ago must say pretty easy in the end just filed in the form and had a medical and police check and waited a few months whilst some one kept the paper work warm under their butt , will fly out which my wife and kids in a week and activist the visa:cool:. I'm on a few other forums so I think I know the pack drill : check all your spelling with the spelling police ( twice ) always take the hump off you can and in any protracted thread call some one a nartzie . No seriously I'm sure there is a wealth of knowledge here I can plunder before we move in just over a year or so. Axle.
