  2. Ok guys, quick canvass of thoughts. We were going to apply for PR but tbh with the visa fees ,migration agent fees etc itll be close to 5k once we are done. Weve got just less than that in the bank right now and could probably save a few k more before we needed to go but again we need that for shipping, flights and all the rest. So the point im trying to make is are we better off looking at getting sponsored on a 457 and once we are settled in Oz look at applying for PR especially as we may find that it wasnt the right move etc? Thiings that concern me are would an employer look disfavourably on me (michelles a nurse) re getting a decent job ( im a purchasing/fm project manager). Is there massive restrictions on a 457 once we are in OZ? Sorry if this question has been asked before just starting to do the math and reckon itll take us around 3 years of saving and not doing anything to get a decent some money together etc.
  3. You cant use oet checked with our migration consultants.
  4. mrs is a nurse so has to take the academic version.
  5. .....lol some of us just want a bit of sunshine and not a 60hr week as standard with no payrise etc.
  6. Not forgetting that us citizens pay tax back home wherever they are in the world irrespective of any other tax laws so are many of them going to want to go for PR very doubtful.
  7. Me personally Id happily live in the states except for the draconian labour laws and 2 weeks holiday..
  8. supa it used to be much lower than that as well....add to that the main reason most americans have a passport is mexico and canada.
  9. They will have to meet exactly the same criteria as us. The reason we have to jump through so many hoops is because of false qualifications from the asian sub continent so americans will have to do the same as we do. Not to mention only 38% of us citizens have a passport and how many of them will be willing to move out of the US? Not many i would think...
  10. turns out the british council marked her papers and feedback from the college is that her paper looked ok so it might be worth an appeal...
  11. thanks. a lot of the practice ones etc both of us have got a 8.5 in but the one on here http://www.examenglish.com/IELTS/IELTS_academic_reading1.htm (full test) was very similar to the one Michelle got on the day. Im just wondering if this is just an exception as most of the ones ive tried have been ok, so maybe if she takes the test again she will get a decent test etc.
  12. I tried a online practice test of the reading test on exam english.com and have to say if thats indicative of the test im not surprised my mrs didnt get a seven. I read and write contracts for a living have a more than decent IQ got a decent degree and Id fail it in dramatic style. It just doesnt seem to make much sense. Very frustrating. Well give it another shot then it might be a case of getting a tutor or am I missing something?
  13. Shes the primary applicant and i believe she needs the extra 10 points. Yeah academic is tougher than the general one. Think she needs to practice the reading one a lot more than she did but she thought it wouldnt be that tough. She was more focused on the writing and took her eye off the ball. just a pain as the £125 fee and scheduling the test in is a pain and we will now deffo have to go into the eoi pool.
  14. ouch looks like she be doing it all again :-(
  15. Just got mrs's results back and she got an overall banding of 7.5 in the academic but only a 6.0 in the reading.....does this mean she will have to do it again (shes a nurse)?
  16. Laura thanks, could you pm your agents info. TBH doing it the 457 way would mean us rushing things in terms of getting out there which wouldnt be ideal. We wanted the move to be april/may next year, so going the 176 route is better if not a bit more expensive. However given we want to move permantly we would have to do it at some point anyhow. Shell is a deputy sister 10 year qualified with a specialist nursing degree and nursing diploma. Shell is currently doing her AHPRA forms. Do you know what the skills assessment entails? The IELTS looks a little daunting in terms of Shell doesnt really like exams and the test examples look a bit wierd.
  17. is the test the academic test or the general one? How difficult is it?
  18. How many on here have done it? Is it easy? Looked at it and it looks a bit simple but at the same time means its probably quite hard to get a "superior" score. My wife has a nursing degree and has been qualified 10 years and is 36. so does she need to do the test to qualify assuming we get a state sponsor etc? Think she's fretting a little over it as she's not great at exams.....
  19. hi a quick post to see what people think. We are having to speed up our efforts to go due to the eoi rules coming in as of july 1st. We intend to migrate permanantly and at present are considering doing it the 457 route and then apply for permanent residency once in OZ. Ideally we wanted to be moving early part of next year so we are now in overdrive. My main question though is are we better off applying for permenant residency now before july 1? My wife is a deputy sister on a trauma ward in the uk. She is 36 im 40 and a purchasing manager. We would prefer either melbourne, adelaide or possibly brisbane as our destination. We did engage a migration agent a few years ago but it all fell by the wayside due to family problems(now sorted) and they no longer exist. IS it advisable to use one or not and if we go for the 176? do we still have time and how do you go about getting the sponsorship etc? thx Graham.
  20. well we will be selling our pride and joy 350z (shipping it to oz first though) as it will go towards the house deposit oz end as the house in the uk will be rented for the foreseeable. Gutted as itll be a good while I reckon till we get a replacement etc. I guess there will be a whole host of other stuff sold prior whether Ill miss any of it Im not sure.lol
  21. Hi Ive 2 questions:- We are now due to the eoi changes looking to get out to oz earlier than anticipated on a 457 and apply for permanent residency in oz. Under a 457 as we would be intending to live in oz do we come under a permenant resident or overseas resident in terms of tax? Im hoping it isnt the latter. Also what do we need to do re driving etc and what are the implications re insurance. Our 350z will be being shipped over there and I dont fancy insuring it without any potential no claims etc. Is oz car insurance steep? thx Graham.
