  1. Hi mate, I am a plasterer by trade but now work in safety here in sydney. I decided on a change and did a cert iv then the diploma. I am yet to complete the training and assessment but it is certainly a must do for someone looking to work in safety and is pretty much a prerequisite for most jobs. I am completing a lead auditor course and then the training qual. People are right in saying you will need to have knowledge of Australian Legislation but this is something you can read up in via the safework australia website, comcare or Workcover to give you an idea at least. I had no experience in safety roles and managed to secure a job, it was entry level but you have to start somewhere. I am 33 now so plenty or years work in me yet. I am looking to get into construction safety but it's a pretty hard market at the moment, and as yet I haven't managed. I would say get stuck into the distance learning. I don't think you can do the training course distance but you can do the cert iv and diploma. Also, there are so many Brits out here in safety that the Nebosh is known and recognised. You can also complete the Nebosh course in Perth now too. hope this helps, cheers, lee
  2. Hi all, i appreciate all of the replies and its really what i thought. It would be a nightmare, lol, i suppose if it was easier everyone would be doing it. We are desperate to get out of Sydney and up that way, i may have to leave my safety role (career change, only a 1-1/2 yrs in) and go back to plastering or something like that to get up there sooner. Or i stick out at the safety role for longer to get into FIFO and then move. Decisions decisions!! Thanks again, i am due to go up in the next month or two and plan on staying at friends in Pottsville and commuting to Brissy for the week, thanks again
  3. i dont mind 1 1/2 hrs but i fear it could be more like 2 1/2, i will have to get up there and do it for a week
  4. That's true, i hadn't really factored parking. Maybe the train is the way to go, i will look into this.
  5. The office is based in Milton which is pretty central i believe. Im going to go up there for a week or so and try it for a week
  6. Hi All, I hope you are having a good day. I am having a little dilemma, myself and fiance love northern NSW, around Kingscliff, Cabarita and would love to move that way. My company has an office in Brissy and i could get a transfer but i would like to know people opinions on the commute. Im sure some people do it but would love to hear from you that do and how long it REALLY takes. We are in Sydney at the moment and my commute 15kms takes an Hour in normal traffic and less if i leave early and longer other days. I would look to leave for Brissy at 6am ish and leave work at around 3:30-4pm ish, possibly with the option to work form home 1 or 2 days a week. Ideally would secure a role in the Gold Coast in the long run, Thanks for having a look and i look forward to hearing your thoughts, Cheers, Lee

  9. Hello mate, hope your enjoying being back in oz, I live down in bondi with my missis, 32 from the uk been here a couple of yrs. out on Xmas party's all this weekend but would be up for a few jars at some point soon, let me know how ya fixed. Drop me a pm, Cheers, Lee
  10. Randwick is a pretty good location to work in and you could live in the cbd or eastern subs and get there easily. My missis is at st Vincent's and has worked at Randwick and liked it there, not a lot going on around the hospital but a few cares and the spot in ransack is good for drinks and dinner Manly is nice but a pain to get too and from, all my friends that live there love it but don't leave. Good surf, bars, cafes but it's pretty small and you have to get the ferry to circular key or a bus of you don't have a car and it's a pain. I would say to make the most of Sydney I would go for RAndwick but it depends the kind of lifestyle your after and where your partner will work. When we first arrived my missis did agency and commuted to RPA,st Vincent's. Royal north shore and a few privates. She decided on Vinnies for the heart and Lung transplant unit. Not sure if that helps but there you go, cheers, lee
