  1. So sorry to hear of your husbands death.

For others who are following this, a will in each country is advised. I just created my Aussie will yesterday; used my local solicitor ($200, i got the originals and several certified copies, and we did medical power of attorney at the same time in prep for my future healthcare). I will sign my UK will next week when I visit home.

Luckily for us, everything is in joint names, so it is a fairly straightforward matter of everything falling to the surviving partner. It can get tricky if you have assets in one name only.

  2. Hi guys. I have my ceremony on saturday and it states on the letter that I can only have 2 guests with me. Are they strict on this or is there a chance I could have more than 2 guests?

I doubt that anyone here can give you a definitive answer for that.

Your local council will be the ones who know how many people the venue can cater for.

  3.

I just checked and it says 4km a day

At a leisurely pace, stopping for photo's, that's about an hour.

You probably did much more than 4km a day working in hospitality.

  4. Australians need to leave and enter Australia on an Australian passport. Otherwise, it sounds like you are setting yourself up for some strife in a foreign country. How easy would that be to sort out in Bali?

  5. The OP is in Australia.

PB said they could be tracked down if they went to the UK on holiday.

How would they be tracked down, taken to court, receive a ccj, default on that sufficiently to be then subject to a supposed dip into a (possibly non-existent) UK bank account?

All in the space of a few weeks holiday? With no fixed abode to send written correspondence to? Which would be ignored anyway.

You don't get a knock at the door at 2am and then dragged off by some bully-boys to court for first thing next morning.

These things take time, by which time the holiday is over and the debtor has disappeared.

And if the debtor doesn't correspond, acknowledge the debt, or enter into any agreement voluntarily from the other side of the planet, then the sold-on debt is worthless to the debt collectors. Give it enough time, and silence, and the statute of limitations kicks in.

I'm not saying defaulting is right, but going for a short holiday isn't going to end up with a confrontation with a private debt collector.

  6. If I remember correctly, you are asked to confirm the dependency by listing examples.

I.e. You provide things like, accommodation, money when required, food, clothing, schooling/education payments including details of education courses, transport expenses etc etc.

    See Transition Stream.

"worked for two years in the same position your employer nominated you for while you held your subclass 457 visa as the primary visa holder, your employer has nominated you for a permanent position under this stream, and the nomination has been approved.

Your skills do not need to be assessed because you have already worked for your nominating employer for two years in Australia."

  8. We did our postal vote last weekend.

There are many independents on the ballot paper who don't even get a listing with a Party name which otherwise might give some clue to their policies. So it's worthwhile doing some googling just to find out who stands for what before putting pen to paper.

  9. Petrol has been creeping up for the last 6 months as the price of oil has been rising.

You've changed your tune. Only yesterday you were claiming that the price of oil was at rock bottom!
