  1. Well it's officially, official. Visa granted, Canberra here we come... Well not quite yet, let's sell the house and get our affairs in order first, I just hope they are ready for us. A big thanks to everyone in this community who has helped us along the way, and I apologise in advance for the posts I will undoubtably submit in the near future. Right! Where's that champagne?
  2. Hi Adam, Fantastic news dude! Still waiting at my end, but hopefully not too long now. Good luck with all your future endeavours, now the real adventure begins. Cheers Chris.
  3. We're in exactly the same boat, we also submitted final documents on the 7th May. Let's see who gets theirs first
  4. Well that's it, Medicals and Police checks done and all evidence uploaded and submitted. Now for the waiting game, hopefully I will have some positive news in the next few weeks.
  5. Hi Erwin, I used https://www.australianskillassessments.com/ for my AQF Certificate III in Printing and Graphic Arts (Graphic Pre-Press) (ICP30205) and they were very helpful indeed, the MD Darren is a top bloke and very knowledgeable. Drop them an email explaining your situation and I'm sure they will be able to offer the right kind of advice. Good luck.
  6. Hi Brum1973, I have recently been granted ACT State Sponsorship under the Graphic Pre-Press trade and in the process of lodging my 190 visa. How far along the line are you? Do you have your Skills Assessed? As for getting sponsorship via a 457 visa route it is pretty much impossible in our game, I tried this route a few years back and spent the best part of 12 months searching and applying for jobs, everyone I spoke to said that, although I have the necessary skills they're unable to sponsor me. Really worth looking into the ACT 190 visa route though, you will need to meet the minimum points score outlined by the DIAC for this visa and apply to the ACT for sponsorship – this process isn't too difficult and I can offer you plenty of advice if need be –. As for jobs in Canberra, the market is a little bit quiet at the moment due to the time of year, but there is quite a large print industry in the ACT and I'm sure there will be something available if you have the skill set. Give me a shout if you need any help.
  7. Thanks Candygirl, I have emailed both the DIAC and the TRA with my concerns, I will let you all know the outcome, Good luck with your plans too
  8. Thanks for the reply blossom79. The DIAC haven't said anything directly to me regarding studying as I haven't started the visa process proper yet. I just want to know if my TRA skills assessment from 2010 is still valid and does it give me extra points towards the visa? When I calculated my total points I only get 50, but my EOI says I have 60. Just to clarify, I am not claiming on my EOI that I have an AQF or any extra educational qualifications, I have answered no to this section. Cheers.
  9. Hello everyone, I have now been trying to emigrate to Australia for the best part of 4 years and unfortunately due to the DIAC constantly moving the goal posts I'm still stuck in the UK. I am now ready to try again and have sent an EOI via SkillSelect. My job is on the Canberra state sponsorship list so I have the option of applying for the 190 visa. I have a few questions that I hope some lovely person out there can answer, these are as follows: 1) I have calculated that I have 50 points (25 for age, 15 for work experience and 10 for IELTS) when I completed my EOI the DIAC are saying I have 60 points (55+5 from SS) and eligible to apply for the 190 visa once invited. My question is this, are the extra points coming from the 10 points allocated for successful skills assessment? 2) If the answer to question 1 is yes then I have another question, I received my successful skills assessment from the TRA in August 2010 and went down the route E pathway, I went through a company called http://www.australianskillassessments.com and got my skills assessed and confirmed to be of AQF standard and I have a certificate to prove it. My question is this, the DIAC now say that you have to have studied an AQF in Australia for it to count, so does this mean my TRA result is invalid (no extra 10 points)? I'm a bit reluctant to start the process and throw money at Canberra and the DIAC respectively to get the sponsorship moving, but don't want to miss the opportunity. I have read that the TRA are offering a MIGRATION POINTS ADVICE service for the magical fee of $300, is this something I need to do, that will finally convince the bureaucrats that with over 16 years experience I can in fact do my job to a satisfactory level Any advice the gurus out there can give will be greatly received. I'm just so frustrated, after 4 years and a lot of time and money I could really do with some good news. Many thanks in advance Chris.
