1. I agree. You're probably looking at around $400 per WEEK rent for a studio, more if 1x bed in Coogee or Bondi, and that won't be for a particularly nice apartment. You might struggle cos they often want you to sign a lease for >6mths, and there can be a lot of competition. Having said all that it can be done with perseverance. It seems a shame coming only to work stacking shelves or similar? Alt consider renting a room in a house share (there are a few house share sites or gumtree). This would be on a more casual and cheaper basis. Sydney is great but very expensive. Food alone is so expensive cf to UK. If I was you I would go to K Mart, buy a $100 tent, some basic camping gear, and a cheap old car and spend 6 mths driving around enjoying the scenery and beaches and great campsites that Oz has to offer. Sell the car and get your money back at the end. If you're both professionals enjoy a proper break!

Hi there.

I was wondering if I could ask you a huge favour? Me and my other half are applying for a 175 and have our medicals in 2 wks. I read the post re the problems you had with your medicals and was wondering if you could offer any advise?

Basically my other half (I'm the main applicant) has Charcot Marie Tooth disease, which is a neurological disease causing weakness in the arms and legs. The problem is there is a HUGE variety of severity for the condition. My other half is very mildy affected (to the point where it was only picked up by accident a few months ago and he's 39!). My main problem is that the condition can be progressive, so I'm terrified they're gonna refuse the visa on this basis.

As someone who has gone through the actual medicals, is there any practice advise on how to handle the medicals etc?

Thanks for any advise, and I hope everything is going ok for you and your family.

Cheers!
