  1. I agree. You're probably looking at around $400 per WEEK rent for a studio, more if 1x bed in Coogee or Bondi, and that won't be for a particularly nice apartment. You might struggle cos they often want you to sign a lease for >6mths, and there can be a lot of competition. Having said all that it can be done with perseverance. It seems a shame coming only to work stacking shelves or similar? Alt consider renting a room in a house share (there are a few house share sites or gumtree). This would be on a more casual and cheaper basis. Sydney is great but very expensive. Food alone is so expensive cf to UK. If I was you I would go to K Mart, buy a $100 tent, some basic camping gear, and a cheap old car and spend 6 mths driving around enjoying the scenery and beaches and great campsites that Oz has to offer. Sell the car and get your money back at the end. If you're both professionals enjoy a proper break!
  2. It means they have satisfied the criteria and that part of the application has been successful.
  3. My partners took 2 days from saying medicals referred to saying finalised. Mine took 4 days. I cannot explain why so quick, but this proves that they can move quickly?
  4. Hi There, I've just moved here and am based in the Darlinghurst area in the centre of Sydney. I realise this is a pretty pricey area but to honest I am shocked at how expensive food is! I knew is was expensive but am really stuggling to find reasonably priced food. People are mentioning going to markets for veggies and meat. Does anyone recommend any good sources of cheaper food in central Sydney? I'm currently using Coles and Woolworths and it's killing me! Any hints or tips welcome
  5. At the moment. The price of food. In central Sydney... Unbelievable
  6. I applied online. Very straight forward application. The vast majority of time was spent waiting for a CO. The thing is you really can't use that as a basis for how long yours will take because it's a totally different time now. They're being processed much faster now. Best of luck!
  7. I can honestly say that it is unlikely anyone can give you even a decent estimate (though they might try)!? I waited 2 yrs and have only just got mine, but DIAC are processing applications at a very rapid pace at the mo, and so it seems people will have to wait less and less, but still projecting a finalising time for you is impossible with any accuracy. What if the changes in July affect you?
  8. I think you can only do it once in Oz online. https://iar.ato.gov.au/IARWeb/default.aspx?pid=4&sid=1&outcome=1
  9. yep, don't worry. No big deal. Mine were referred and it took 2 days to finalise, other half's took 4 days.
  10. It just closes the window! :clown-wink:
  11. 175s are currently taking between 12-18mths to be processed (current ESTIMATE only). Front loading your meds and PCC before being allocated a CO will have absolutely no bearing on your application. Why not do your meds and PCCs say 9 mths after application (it will be the date that the first of these are finalised which will determine the date of your initial entry (ie 1 yr after)). Also if you do your meds now, and your visa takes over a yr to be processed (likely at this stage), then they'll be invalid anyway. Good luck.
  12. Yes just one copy and you just colour scan it in. I didn't get it certified etc and that was fine. Mine took 3 wks from date of sending off.
  13. I never filled it in, and was never requested it during our 175 application process.
  14. Agree with this, mine was 12mths from our police check cert date since we did this first.
  15. I lodged mine online and it was very straightforward. Have a look at the paper application and if you feel you're able to fill it out then do it. http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/1066.pdf I think the most difficult part would be having your skills recongnised which you seem to be doing. If there are any complex medical issues/criminal records, or you're concerned you might not be able to demonstrate any evidence (previous jobs etc) then consider an agent. It took me about 1.5 hrs to do the whole thing, so generally I don't think an agent is required.
