  1. I'm sure there will be some Aussies who screw their notes up!

I'm from the North and I've never had a problem saying 'nuts' or 'bus'!

I've never heard an English person call them 'sneakers', when I was young they were called sandshoes, when I moved down South they called them 'pumps'!

I'm a Geordie and I've never heard them called 'gym boots' or 'joggers' anywhere, ever!

They were sandshoes, and I think it was sometime in the 80's when they became trainers.

    Geordie nuts = noots

    geordie bus = boos

  2. And why do you look for bad news about the UK...

I don't. I was involved in a discussion about rising racial tension in Britain. No more, no less. I have no agenda with my homeland.

I just find it rather amusing and hypocritical that you choose to have a pop at people who apparently post negative stories about the UK, especially given your posting history and reputation.

  3. Spot on, many have to justify their move after a few mounts as they realize its not like the glossy programmes on TV but in reality is same shitte different country, I suppose ith gives some comfort to constanly look for any bad news about home to make them feel better about their move.

So... Why do you constantly look for bad news about Australia??

  4. You like a lot of ex pats seem to spend their time worrying about the decline of the uk, is that to try and justify your existence in a foreign land. I would have thought for all ex pats if you love Oz so much why spend your time on a forum defending your need to choose oz over the uk. Quite baffling to me.

Don't start your crap / critisicms on me. I ain't worried either or trying to justify my existence in a foreign land and please detail to me where I was defending my need to choose Australia over the UK before shooting off on a tangent with no real substance.

  5. Doesn't really take an experienced person to come to the conclusion either. Ive lived in 3 cities in the UK man. Living is Living wherever you decide to live. How is living in Sydney or Melbourne or Perth or Brisbane any different really??

I spent 3 months in Adelaide btw.

It's just that 5 months is no time at all. I was still finding my feet after 6 months. Its different just coming over to a country and casually working with no real view to settling in and staying permanently or havinga flying visit of 5 months. You would have barely scratched the surface in 5 months.

  6. You've got some great suggestions there Michaela.

Only just woke up, but off the top off my head...

Point Walter in Melville....my fav river spot. Drive there, grab a coffee and just sit and watch Perth families having fun.

Cottesloe beach, of course the beach is great, but take a walk along the top too, stunning views and some nice places for something to eat.

    Beaufort Street...some good shopping.

Freemantle arts centre...depending on what time of year, a free Sunday afternoon lazing on the lawns listening to a band.

Claisbrook Cove...lovely spot for a walk and a bit of refreshment.

The Hills area, ie Kalamunda, Mundaring etc...A totally different vibe to the hustle and bustle of the city.

Rockingham Foreshore.....a lovely spot on a summers day.

Hillarys...some shopping, some eating and drinking, all with lovely views.

Applecross...a drive along the foreshore, taking in the views and the houses. Finish off in Raffles.

    Mandurah...take a canal trip.

Ahh....the list could go. Enjoy your time in gorgeous Perth.

    Decent list there Fifi.

  7. So I am trying to make a plan of things to do during our reccie to see the widest range of what Perth has to offer.. We love city life, we love country life so want a mix of both. We have 8 days. So far my list is looking like:

Perth city itself, just a wander around to get a feel.

    Kings park.

A drive around the surrounding suburbs

    Fremantle/ rottenest island

    Bells rapids

    Perth Zoo

Wine tour (get too see all the hills, based on googling Feral brewery)

need to eat at core cidre and alfreds kitchen..

Not Perth but Ningaloo Reef and Lucky bay look amazing, but doubt we will make it that far out in 8 days...

Can anyone else think of any "must do's" while in Perth?

    Thanks :wubclub:

What time of year are you coming over Micheala?

  8. Try putting 75 million .....all different races into sleepy Perth and see how it goes ! Britain does very well and deals with all the diverse cultures better than Australia will ever do. Look how well the aboriginals have been integrated ! It's shameful.

Im not drawing a comparison between the two countries. Just stating that IMO Britain (mainly England) is getting worse for racism and racial tension brewing up. And 75 million all into Perth? WOW! There isn't even 75 million in the whole of the UK so I don't think putting 75 million in Perth would go down too well..Might be a bit cramped and end up like London

  9. Well after spending 5 months living in Australia this year on a working holiday visa Ive kinda come to the conclusion - same sh1t different place.

Its only after living there (and blowing £10k to £20k of savings and jacking a UK job) that people realise their life is no better. And they have the added disadvantage of having their old friends and family living thousands of miles away.

5 months in one city being Adelaide? Rather inexperienced and green to draw such a conclusion. You came and left in no time at all.

  10. The riots over that guy who was shot 4 years ago? That had nothing to do with race but just low life's taking a chance to rob shops...no more or less than has gone on over the years with the national front etc, certainly nothing much in the news about it.

p.s., are you in Perth? If you are Please do not believe the gutter press that blow everything out of proportion, all people re worrying bout over here is how their team will fare in the coming season and the hot weather.

Yeah, it was 2 years and 11 months ago to be exact and was kicked off after a black gangster wannabe was shot dead by the police. Mob mentality spread after the initial kick off! I was born in bred in the UK and Islamic extremist marches on the streets are relatively recent but ever increasing. As are the far right groups dressed in Stone Island gear and flat caps. A party such as UKIP would have been laughed out in bygone years but are now gaining popularity as the months go on. I don't care what the papers write. I am big enough and old enough to see what is happening and it is going to get worse.

  11. What London riots ? These protest marches have been going on for decades, don't see any more tension or less to be honest.

The riots a couple of years ago that had a racial undertone to them. The EDL type groups are ever increasing and you have that mob in the flatcaps protesting now (Britain First). Islamic marches are relatively recent and ever increasing on UK streets also. UKIP are gaining popularity at an increasing pace as polls prove. You have your head in the sand or are in denial to suit your own agenda if you think there isn't a simmering of racial tension brewing up in Britain.

  12. A Grecian cottage I'd probably be ok with -- there is so much archeology and history in Greece I'd find something to do. Though, as we're all agreeing here, it depends very much on location and accessibility (probably cash, too )

I'm thinking my love of city life in Glasgow will make for a familiar crossover into Perth. With so much more outdoor potential thanks to the climate, I'm expecting I'll enjoy it more on those occasions where I want to trek out to quieter spots.

I am born and raised in Glasgow and Perth is quite a bit different to Glasgow Pete but it is a great place nonetheless and the climate is amazing! I'm sure you will embrace the changes.
