  1. Hi Pete, A response on the subject from Alan would be interesting. I have taken some guidance on the subject (Paid for) as I will probably leave an unsold UK house and a large investment in a UK private UK Company. I have been told that the house being my primary residence is not subject to any gains but if I sell it and bank the money then I will be taxed in A$ on any gains from the day after my arival in OZ. So if the money in the UK bank is on arrival date £450k at A$ 1.60 the Australian value is A$720k if in the next OZ tax year the UK sum increases to £463,500 (3% gross) and the the rate is now A$ 1.58 bringing the Australian value to A$ 732,330.00 it is my understanding you will pay Oz tax on $12,330.00,. As to the UK investment I have ensured that I have a formal certified value of the company prior to departing UK so that if the company gets sold at some future date I will only pay Australian tax on the growth since my arrival in OZ. Of course I will be taxed in OZ on any company dividends that get paid to me, hopefully many!!
  2. Linday, Yes you are correct in your assumption that you will be taxed in OZ on the growth amount of the funds left in the UK.
  3. Hi Sir Matt, Thank you your the guidance but the application to SAPS has already gone! I may yet ask for the details of your contact should as it quite possible the application go missing. In the meantime fingers crossed and full speed ahead. Many thanks
  4. Well since getting our CO on the 28 January 2011 my wife and I have had a busy week organising the next steps on the road to the CPV143 visa. · Downloading the Form 80 from the DIAC web page and completing it on the laptop http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/pdf/80.pdf . The hardest part is digging out all you old passports as they ask for all the passport numbers of all the passports that you have held. I’ve had 7, fortunately I have kept them all so not too much of a problem. Then of course comes all the trips abroad that you have made in the last 10 years. This form is worth filling in before you get your case officer and save it on the laptop until required, then all you need to do is print it and sign it before sending it off. · Police Clearance Certificates, we needed both the UK one from ACPO Farnham and South African ones from the SAPS Pretoria as we had spent over 12 months (Just) in South Africa on secondment from the UK. · The UK certificate is straight forward at a cost of £35.00 per person or a further £5 if you require an extra copy, we did just in case. · The SA certificate is a little more difficult, you need to obtain fingerprints from your local UK police station ( This needs to be a Police Station that has a custody suite) at a eye watering £66 per person. You need to complete a annexe 23B form obtainable from Application for Police Clearance Certificate then photo copies of your passports, a bankers draft at R59 per person, a covering letter and a prepaid return envelope to enable them to send you the certificate. · The Medicals & X Rays appointments have been booked for the 23rd February at Knightsbridge London as this is the easiest place to get to from the bottom end of Devon this at a cost of £270 per person, which does include the couriering of the medical results to DIAC Australia. We are going up by train the day before, staying overnight as the appoint is at 10am. · The AOS process has started with daughter calling the Centrelink office in Sydney for an appointment, they very politely said that would get back to her shortly with an appointment date as they are currently very busy dealing with claims for flooding in Queensland, and Victoria. So we are now back to waiting again!!!!! Still we moving in the right direction!!!:biggrin:
  5. I felt that it was time to join PIO as all the names I recognise are poping up on this Forum. I have posted on the BE forum in the past but I confess to being very quiet over the last couple of months. Well with a case officer being granted today, a big surprise:jiggy: and 28 days to organise medicals and Police Certificates from Uk and South Africa the month should prove to be very hectic. I have just been caught on the South African Police checks as we left in November 2001, this should be fun. We are looking to go to the Central Coast as daughter lives in Avoca Beach, our fancy is Jilliby or the Yaramalong Valley as we prefer the country to the Beach, still we shall see what happens!! I am sure that the plans will chang a few times over the next few months!!
