I am starting to ask around my friends, colleagues and ex colleagues for work and/or character references. I am being asked what tgey should put in these references so that will help me with both work and securing a rental. Any advice on what these should say???? Thank you for any help

Yes we were the same back in May on the same code as you. Just hoping for an invite next week now!!!!!!

I am thinking that we would like to settle in Ferny Grove/Hills area when we get a visa. It seems ideal for us but wondered if anyone could give me advice on that area I.e. are the schools OK, shopping too far away or is it manageable? I have a 12 and 9 year old. I have also come across Upper Kedron when looking at these areas and the houses seem newer here, which is our preference. So wondered if anyone also had thoughts on Upper Kedron. You should put a post on the 'socialising & get together' section of this site and see if you can find people in your area with teenage girls. Worth trying.

OH no....one invite a month now, hadn't seen that......

Great idea to start this post. There will be plenty of people out there waiting for July 6th.....including me. We're on pins and have been for a while now as we waited for the May and June invites on a 190 but then had to change to a 189 so re submitted June 22nd with 65 points. I just want the invite and maybe I can stop being a stress head!

Raj. My OH found the PTE much easier. Although English is his worst subject generally, he came out superior on the test. He worked hard for it but got the results he wanted. Good luck

I am jumping in on this thread as I was going to ask similar questions. We plan to spend 3 or 4 weeks somewhere in Brisbane and then use that time to find an unfurnished rental. The advice on getting a rental pack together is helpful, thank you. My OH is not letting me take our dogs so I guess it makes things a little easier.... Not happy though!!! People have mentioned cabins as interim accommodation, does anyone know of any if these in the Brisbane/Queensland area as I can't find any and quite like the idea of doing that. I have checked out AirBnB but their prices seem pretty steep! Thanks for any advice.

Thanks Captain. We were going to go for the 189 originally but thought there might be more chance on the 190 in Victoria as they have my OH job on the list - Software. Should have just gone with our original plan, but never mind. We still have 65 points so fingers crossed - now I can relax until 6th July and see what happens. If no luck on that day, keep waiting......getting the hang of this waiting business!!!

So I have had to submit another EOI today for the 189 visa - it was previously 190 but they have said no to my OH at the moment. So the wait begins again!!! Although the immi site now has dates for the next rounds, so that's helpful rather than everyone guessing! So July 6th.....more waiting.

Yes, we would just have 60 without it. Only Victoria has my husbands job on their SOL so it seemed the best way to go, but we'll see. I need to take a chill pill !!!!!

Hi there. Want to do it ASAP!!! We do have a plan B of trying to get a 189 visa if the 190 doesn't happen but just the 'not knowing' is a nightmare!

Hi CaptainC We were in the process of moving to Oz in 2009 when I had the news that my mum had cancer. We left it a while then decided to carry on the process. Shortly after, we found out mum was terminally ill with the cancer so we decided not to go. Am I glad we did that now as mum lasted a lot longer than they said she would and that time was precious, but now 5 years down the line we also realise that we still want to do this. So the skills assessment, english test, EOI are all done and we'll see if we can do it again. Leaving my dad will be heartbreaking but he is 110% behind us and happy to visit a few times a year hopefully. It was a tough decision to stop the visa back in 2009 and only you can make that decision but I am glad we put it all aside whilst I had that time with my mum - you don't get that time back again x Just do what feels right. x

I hope so as we are in the same boat although our EOI was done 28th May with 70 points. Which state nomination have you requested? Friday is supposed to be the next day for invites although I think they are on strike this week.....so who knows!!!!!!

For those that suffered badly withbhayfever before moving to Oz, do you still suffer over there? Be interested to know as my husband and daughter suffer terribly over in the UK. Little bit of heat in the UK this week and they have been in a right state. Have people found this eases over in Australia at all or is that just wishful thinking? TIA x

Well done Leah, wish ours could have been that quick! Great news. So I have been waiting for Friday to arrive and it looks like a strike could mess it all up now as well...great! My patience still hasn't impoved!

I've also applied for the 190 visa but Victoria. So hoping for an invite. Submitted 26th May and have 70 points. Fingers crossed for Friday! Good luck everyone

Only been one round since I applied but have 70 points and applying for 190 visa. So I can only wait and hope! I've found out that I am more impatient than I always thought I was!!!!!

So the next round of invitations is looming.....5 sleeps! Praying for an invite, emotions are all over the place!!!! :twitcy:

On the immi site it tells me the 190 visa will be £4035 (before 1st July) which I have budgeted for. I have just noticed underneath that it says there may be 'a second instalment'. Does anyone know what this second instalment is for and how much???? Confused now :arghh:
