  2. Well i did discover that i can make fab gravy ..the old way...bit of flour in my pan first...oxo or stock...but for ease and to add a bit of instant thickenning ...its gravy granuals if i have them....on a similar note ...sams warehouse ..fake pringles taste very very close to the real thing and alot cheaper than the real thing in coles etc...
  3. We have IGA in Rosebud ...i havent seen bisto granuals but will be looking on my return in a few weeks...fingers crossed
  4. No stores on the Mornington Peninsula stocks gravy granuals.....i lived there from sept- april ...i would have found them...you can now get oxo....but not granuals....i will take the chance of my quality street melting...if it works out ok...i will let you know...if they are going to melt in to one big.blob...perhaps i should take the wrappers off now...need more than a toffee hammer at the other end..,ha
  5. Some doctor on tv this morning said the way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the things you have started. So I looked around my house to see things I'd started & hadn't finished, then I finished off a bottle of Vodka, a bodle of Baileys, a botle of wum, a pock of Prungles, 1/2 chesecke an a bocs a choclezt. Yu haf no idr how bludy fablus I feeel now. Plaese sned dhis orn to dem yu fel ar in ned ov innr piss! Just thought ...when all we seem to do every day all day is plot plan...and hope re our visa' s ...we could all with a good laugh Val x
  6. I recently wrote to customs in oz... Today i received a reply ...chocolate and gravy granuals are fine...but strongly suggested that thy are boxed seperate....so a couple of tins of quality street will be added to my shipping...ready for christmas...we have always taken choc and gravy granuals and delared them and thy have been fine...but just wanted to double check if we were to pack a couple of tins of chocolates that it would be...
  7. I have medication here that entitles me to free presciptions...i cannot live without it...does the same apply in oz ....would i get free meds...im 57 yrs old..

  11. Today after reading all the upset...struggles of everyone...really unnerved me...what are we doing....there was i telling everyone ..oh I would live in a shed if I can be near my family...but today ....oh I have sobbed...not for the first time in this process and I dont expect the last... We had my husbands gratuity after 38 years in the RAF..,we have sold our house...but for alot less than what it was worth a couple of years ago..we are due within the next couple of weeks to pay for our 173 leave for Melbourne on the 15 th August...if we stay here...we can have a nice home ...holidays...but no family...well not our only child and our two grandchildren...I have today sobbed ...are we doing the right thing...will I be happy to rent for the rest of our lives...our house will NOT buy us a house in OZ ...but we will have the money to invest to pay rent...to say Im scared is to say the least...we have lived in lots of rented housing...but that was RAF...safe...no checks until you moved...we are trying to work out all options...perhaps our daughter and son inlaw could buy ...for us to rent...perhaps we could find a very small plot of land and afford a small new build..then we dont have the crippling stamp duty in Victoria...we will have around $400.000 absolute tops...leaving us with NOTHING...so along with my family here being upset that im leaving...today has all been just a bit too much...but i know we are in the same boat as lots of you on here...i know i can come and talk about these feelings ..of being scared...of are we doing the right thing...and i know if we all just keep paddling...we will all get there...and see our grndchildren grow up...not just be a face at the end of a web camera...so i will continue to house hunt...both to buy and to rent...to fill my head 24/7 with this whole process and know soon i will be there and hearing and feeling my grndchildren and knowing i can see them any day i want...some days are alot harder than others ...we can get there with places like this to share to give and receive support...thanks everyone for being there for me x
  12. Oh...come on guys..got to try...to look on the positive...yesterday the rate went to $1.51.6. Surely thats a good sign...and at the end of the day there is nothing at all we can do...to change things...we have money in moneycorp ...waitng for it to hit $1.53 ...and we have everything crossed for next week ...
  13. We had seven months in melbourne area and lots of properties are being reduced...i think they have over priced lots...and now not selling...so im hoping we can make a killin with our cash...well you have to dream....
  14. I so hope your right...but still so difficult to know what to do right now...we are close to getting our visa...sold our house just waiting to exchange contracts....but then what to do with the money....do we invest and rent in oz...do we buy....if only we had a crystal ball...but at least if the exchange rate gets more in our favour...our forces pension will go alot further...
  15. Thats fantastic news...where are you heading....we are flyng out on the 15th august...perhaps have a drink at heathrow with you ...
  16. All our docs apart from the aussie police checks have now been received in perth...spoke to our co today and he said as soon as he gets the inal police check and we pay he will email us straight back with our visa...so fingers crossed we will have our visa for when we fly out on the 15 th august...spoke to singapore airlines and they said if we have our visa we will have double baggage allowance...so hopefully this will all go smoothly from now on...its been a long stressful journey ..but the end is in sight and our new beginnings are in sight too...very exciting times ahead
  17. Police check (copy) paid for and arrived...all docs now posted off...just waiting for aussie police checks to come back to our daughters....so we are almost there as far as getting a visa ...whatever happens we are booked on singapore airlines ...cattle class on the 15 th august...if we have our visa they have onfirmed we can have double luggage allowance...if we havent got our visa by then...it means we will have to have a few days in fiji...or bali...life can be tough....oh i meant to say to get our visa stamped... Yesterday we decided as our current tenants have decided to move out in around 6 weeks that we will put our house on the market and see how it goes...if there is no interest we will let it again...we have a cabin to liv in in oz...so no desperate rush...but a real home would be nice...i hope things are moving on for everyone else...it is so very stressful but i know it will all come together in the end and we will ...all live happily ever after...
  18. Hi and welcome...your in the riht place ...lots of help and support. Val
  19. My details arrived with the police for checking on the 17 th may....they tell me they posted it back on the 8 th of june....its still not arrived...its really doing my head in...im so stressed im ready to explode....my mum who is in sheltered housing and has my brother and his family within 2 mins drive away is breaking her heart...my sister who lives in Germany ...is saying she will be crying for weeks and her life will never be the same...we got told yesterday that our tenants are moving out...so do we re let ...or sell...I have spent the last 15 yrs caring for all our oldies...i want to be a grandma...nothing else...this whole process is so stressful...our flights are booked for 15 th august but my mum is telling me to go now...shes finding the build up too hard to deal with...im taking her to cornwall next week...then she wants me to leave...we have been back in th uk for to months...i have taken mum on two holidays already...the rest of my family...dont take her out...it is going to be hard for her..i cannot change the situation i find myself in...if i could just sneak off back to melbourne ...i would be off today ...
  20. Mega stressed ...still waiting for the police checks to come. Post arrived but not what Im looking for...Just cannot understand why mine should be now three weeks later than my DH ....I know this is all worth it in the end but right now...im gutted...another day and no further on .... I think I will post what docs we have today...and then police check when it comes or perhaps wait one more day... Just wanting this nightmare to be over
  21. STILL waiting for my police check to arrive...DH checs arrived over two weeks ago...mine was posted back on the 8th June...but not arrived yet....it just seems one hold up after another ...I asked them to post another but that wont happen for 15 working days after its been posted ....or we have o send a cheque for another...if nothing arrives before thursday we will send the cheque...anyone else had this happen ...
  22. Just reading back through some older posts and questions re renting...buying etc ..how will you manage.... Last October we purchased a 2 bed cabin on a caravan park at Rosebud on the Mornington penisular ( Melbourne ) its got 2 beds shower room lounge kitchen diner...huge deck..on a lovely site with pool... We paid $60,000 we then pay about $6000 per year ground rent and then electric and gas ...any extra children or adults are $100 per year we have a dongle for internet and mobiles...we erected a shed...bought a car and bikes...we lived there for almost 7 months and will be returning in august...my daughter and family have been visiting while we are back in the uk...we have been looking at renting but its going to cost at least $300-350 per month and the added trapping of landline...internet etc...living in the cabin meant every morning sweeping through...washing up etc ..and then off on our bikes or doing voluntary jobs etc...its not meant to be a permenant site and w are hoping if we keep our heads down we can get away with staying there another year or two... I hope this helps ..its worth looking at and in the end you have something to sell..instead of paying out on rent...while you look for omething more permenant... Before i left in april i planted daffs...hoping they will be flowering or my return...Did i mention i also have an orange and an olive tree...home sweet home Val
