  1. They acknowledged our CPV143 on the 7th day after sending it! I was amazed (we used Royal Mail Special Delivery so we could track it online).
  2. We applied for CPV (143) in April 2009, received acknowledgement on 14th April 2009 and on 6th August this year got our Case Officer assigned. It's all go from here on - they gave us 28 days in which to have our police checks, medicals and to arrange my daughter to go to Centrelink to sort out the Assurance of Support. This has only taken 15 months and is a couple of months earlier than we expected. After this, we hope(!) to be paying our AoS in Sept/Oct, then the huge visa fee on Oct/Nov - we should get our visa in December. From the date of our medical (11th August), we expect to have to validate our visa by going to Australia by 10th August 2011. We're so excited, but there's loads of forms to fill in and we'd like to sell the house before we go. If we don't, we may have to 'hokiday' in Oz to get our visa validated, then come back to sell our home. Keep your chin up! Once you get your Case Officer, it's a mad rush! Good luck - remember, patience is a virtue!!
  3. Oh heck!! Think we'd better transfer to daughter's account in Australia pretty quickly! Thanks for your reply - it'll take some thinking over this weekend!
  4. Thanks Gill, yes. I was under the impression (from somewhere) that payment directly to London was cheaper as they offered a better exchange rate, so was a bit shocked to see what it was! However, if we can pay the PVC directly, we don't have a problem. You're right - no-one knows what the future value will be - we'll just go with it and pay PVC as you suggest. Many thanks!
  5. Hi Gollywobbler - can you advise us please? (We'll have to start paying you for all your excellent advice!) We note that the DIAC currency converter shows a rate of A$1.57 (ish) to the £ from 1st July 2010. Yesterday’s rate from Reuters was A$1.73/£. We've just been assigned our CO and will probably be asked to pay our second CPV143 visa payment around October. Our question is, do you think it might be worth asking our CO to delay payment for a month or two until the rate changes on 1st January 2011? Otherwise, it’s costing us almost a further £4000 – plus the extra on the AoS! The more we try and save, the quicker the charges increase! Will our CO allow us to wait if we explain why? Sue Ashforth
  6. Hi Linday - thanks for your reply. What I need to know is, once you've received your 143 visa, how long are you allowed to remain in the UK whilst selling your house? I read somewhere that you have 12 months from the date of your visa, but if you haven't managed to sell within that time, you had to 'step foot' on Australian soil in order for your visa to become validated. Regards, Sue
  7. We posted our Contributory Parents (Class 143) Visa on 7th April 2009, acknowledgement received dated 21st April. Still waiting for a CO to be appointed - expect this to be Sept / Oct 2010 according to 20-month waiting time that's been quoted. Expect this will give us about 12-15 months to sell up & arrange to emigrate. Would like to be in Oz Jan 2012 and have our last Xmas with family in UK. I understand you're given 12 months in which to sell your home in the UK - can anyone tell me whether this is from the CO is appointed or from the date on which your Visa is granted? Cheers!
