  1. Havn't been on for a few weeks (still got medical issues going on:arghh:) but happy to see more people getting their CO's and living their dream.

I might get a chance to have another try when all of this is sorted

I certainly hope you do get another chance, you deserve it.

  2. Hi Moira

Good to see you are making the move at long last. Had to check my form for the answer but they have changed the form so checked on the immi site. It is to do with tracing your history so just list the documents with all the details and put a small explanation about the difference. In your case "this was my married name but ........ in ????? and took new name in ......." presume you would also include documents to back up the statement. Given names are something that I have always taken to be any other names you are known by ie an alias. We had fun and games with our family whereabouts, just said what we knew and left it at that and it was accepted. I do not think they are too bothered if it is honest and logical.

Packing is going well, last day at work yeterday, I was planning to work till mid april but they said i had to use my holidays before my requested final working day so that worked out as yesterday. I think really they threw the dummy out of the pram but he ho gives me more timeto sort at a more gentle pace.

Fly on the 24th april and it will be for good this time, just hope I can get a reasonable job.:twitcy:

Thanks for that. How does it feel booking one way? I am thinking of booking for end November beginning December. My application was accepted July last year so if 14 months is the wait for a CO, that should make it September when I get one. But it actually feels a little scary booking ONE WAY.

  3. Hallo out there

I am just filling out Form 80 - I have a while to go yet but as I cant get my medicals done until I get a CO I thought I would fill this form in. I have a query about Question 10 'Do you currently have or ha ve you ever had other passports (If more than one give details at Part J) - I have 3 other passports so I have listed them on J. The next part of the questions is 'If the passport document only shows one name, write that name in the Family box (below) - Two of my passports have my current name. The first passport has my married name. My query is, when they say 'one name' do they mean one name on each passport or what I think it means is the same name of each of the 3 passports?

    Thanks for any help

Pete and Marg - how is the packing going?

  4. I have just had this email from WA Parents "Medicals and police clearances must be provided only at the request of the Case Officer, who at the same time will instruct you on where to undergo the medical exams as well as where to apply for your police certificate. The Case Officer will assess, when it is the right time to request those documents." So I will have to wait - hope its not too long.

  5. Hi Everyone.

I have a question about flights. If the allocation time for a CO is still 14mths, I should get a CO in September. I would like to book my flight ONE WAY before then. My son thinks I may not be able to book one way until I actually have the visa, is he right?

Thanks again for this wonderful sharing of information and support

  6. Hi Folks

I am still not sure whether it is good news or not but we have just accepted an offer on our house. Severely depressed price but that is the way of the market. Just hope I can get employment at 61 so we can get a loan to make up the difference. After being mortgage free for so long it is a bit frightning but look out Perth we will be landing for good now on 25 april. Just hope it is all we hope for.

Thats great news. Wishing you all the best

    Moira

  7. Thanks to everyone for your supportive emails. I tell myself these things but it is always reassuring to hear from others.

I went to a talk by and author and met someone else intersted in books and crafts, and I have to say that there are a lot of groups to join and I will do voluntary work

    Best wishes to you all

  8. Hi everyone and Happy New Year

A bit late but like some others I dont seem to be in the loop for notification so am just catching up.

I am in Melbourne on hols for 2mths, one month already gone. Lovely to see the family so regularly and be part of it. Only wobble I have about moving over is leaving friends. Also I will be 62 when I get over here and although I am qualified as a homeopath and masseuse I am not sure I want the hard work of building up a practice. I will look around for something else but dont feel positive about it. But feel that being with the family wins.

How wonderful to meet up with one another after knowing each other through this site. I hope there will people wanting to meet when I get over here, hopefully the end of this year.

Good luck and good health to you all

  9. We are going through this process at the moment.

The Assurer makes an application at Centrelink

Centrelink approves the application and sends a letter to the Assurer asking them to open an account with the Commonwelath bank

The Commonwealth bank then provides confirmation to Centrelink that the account has been opened

    Centrelink then inform DIAC.

I don't know where your Assurer is based, but my Assurer is in Queensland and they do seem to be quite slow. He applied to Centrelink about a week before your Assurer and they have only just got round to processing the application. It might be an idea to give Centrelink a call, just to check they have everything they need.

    HI

When you say "the Assurer makes an application at Centrelink" I thought their application went in with the visa application or is this a different application?

    many thanks

    Moira:wacko:

  10. Thank you for the replies to my post. Ann you are right , when the time is said in weeks it does seem less ( I am a month behind you). I have decided to have my medicals and police checks in March, as I hope to move over towards the end of the year. If its taking 14mths for a CO that means I should get one about September, but I shall watch your space.

Gill thank you for saying about putting the money in your daughters account to pay the visa, that sounds very simple, so I will think about that, and to be aware of the daily limit.

Like Ann I am on my own, so I find this forum very useful.

  11. Hallo out there

I havent been online for a while so it was nice to see the messages and hear how people are getting along.

I am going to Melbourne in 11days, I will be over there for 2mths. I have never been over for christmas before and I have been invited to the kindergarten christmas party.

I have opened a bank account with ANZ and will verify it when I am out there. If I put the visa payment in an australian bank account, is it easy to pay the Immigration dept from that account (I will be in UK)? maybe a cheque of move it over online? I would be interested to know. Although I dont expect a CO until next August.

    My best wishes to everybody

  12. Hi Moira

following your "postion" in the queue you are better using steve's tracker. As for the Gov currency converter put http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/990i/converter.htm into your browser and fill in the boxes from the dropdown lists.

    regards

By the way still in blighty trying to sell the house, Anyone want a very nice house in south yorkshire???

Thanks for that. Have you got a time in mind that you want to move over or will you wait until the house is sold? Are you getting anyone viewing the house?

I have been keeping an eye on the tracker but there doesnt seem to be much movement. I have opened a bank account in Oz - online and will verify it when I go for hols in Dec and I have used Forex (very simple) to put some money in. So - so far so good

    Best wishes

    Moira

  13. Hi out there

I wanted to check the state of my application online but am I right in thinking you can only check it on line if you applied on line and I think someone said that you can check what the department has set the rate of exchange. Could someone point me in the right direction. I want to be prepared...

    many thanks

    Moira

  14. Brilliant, wonder if it works on irons. I noticed that someone has their CO in 9mths, if I am reading it right, thats quick. I only put my application in in July but already wondering how to pack things. I guess the company can do it for you or give advice on how to pack breakable. But everyone gets there eve ntually, good to hear how others are getting on

  15. Hey, We arrived in Australia exactly 2 years ago on a CPV 143 and what a great time we are having with our daughters and their families being so close.

Ian had 3 pensions in UK and has transferred 2 of them to an Australian super fund. We found an Australian Financial Advisor while we were still in England; he not only was very knowledgable about Australian super but he had spent 5 years working in finance in UK so was able to advise us from both sides. Ian still has one pension in UK as there are bonuses due (Hopefully!) Do take advice as there are so many advantages if you transfer. Not least that when you take the super 100% of it is tax free as opposed to 25% in UK. We decided we could wait for years for the exchange rate to improve and as we were committed to living in Australia surely it made sense to have our assets here; and of course interest rates here are so much higher. ( We are getting 6.5% on a 6 month term deposit ) If you would like the contact details of our Advisor I can PM them to you. His aim is to make enough money for us to counteract the huge cost of the Visa! Also he was not very expensive! We are in Sydney; he is in Perth but that doesn' t matter at all.

    Regards Marian

    Hi Marian

This information certainly sounds interesting. I would be interested in your Advisor's details although I am not sure I will have enough money left to do anything with. But I guess its worth asking. Could you PM it to me

    Many thanks Moira

  16. Well, after nearly a year planning this we are off to see Harry, our grandson, (and his parents)!!!

We had an excellent flight here with Singapore Airlines, all the recommendations were great.

I was somewhat p**ped when we arrived, all the tension about have I done everything etc???? We booked into T3 transit hotel for a few hours and that helped.

The airport has a tremendous amount of things to do and 'stuff' to see, whatever age you are.

Can't wait for the morning when we arrive in Sydney for 10 weeks with Harry.

He wasn't walking last time I saw him, so that will be just so.........well all you ladies know what I mean (my OH can't understand why I get so emotional about it all!!)

Have just skyped our granddaughter back in UK and she is excited for us too, although at 3 years old, she doesn't realise how long we will be away.

Maybe it was the singapore sling in Harrys Bar, but really don't want to do this journey again, too emotional, give me the visa application forms and just wont go back:confused:

Anyway, let me be the first to wish all Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

    See you in 2012

    Cheers Pam

    Hi Pam

I know how you feel about the journey being emotional. I am off to Oz for 2mths in December (thats if I get there, have booked with Qantas!!!) People say arent you excited and I am but the thought of when I turn away from grandchildren(oh dear wheres the tissues) is always present.

But Harry will be worth it - its when he first sees you and beams.

    Best wishes Moira

  17. Well, who would have thought it - you leave the UK to take up life the other side of the world and be with your family, and what does your family do..............................they get to meet the Queen! More celebrity for our beautiful Grandaughter.

    I hope good health continues

  18.

Ar 7.30am yrsterday morning when I was checking my emails the one we all long for dropped into my inbox.....our CO had been appointed. It's taken 58 weeks from acknowledgement.

I've spoken to him about our situation basically asking if there was any leeway to postpone the application for 6 months but it seems not so we have had to withdraw the application, it has to be resubmitted (more $) and back to the

    starting post.

Its good news for those who are waiting there's a CO free to be reassigned.

Im so gutted I feel like giving up altogether

    Phoebe

how devastating. I am so sorry and I hope you dont give up.

  19. Buying a house here is so easy compared to the UK. We put in an offer saturday, it was accepted yesterday, signed contracts today and once survey is done (Thursday) and hopefully OK we pay the deposit next Monday and exchange formally. Could be in our beautiful new home by 18th November!!!!

We Tarrants don't hang about. We only arrived 2 weeks ago tomorrow. (But we had visited, researched and looked on-line at loads of houses since we started this whole Visa process)

That is so much easier than UK. It all sou nds great. Lovely to hear from you
