  1. If yours is a permanent Parent visa, it is valid for re-entry to Australia for 5 years from the date of grant. During that time, you can come and go as you please and could stay away for a couple of years or even longer if you wish.

After your re-entry rights expire however, you can only re-enter Australia if you have a Resident Return visa. If you have been in Australia for at least 2 out of the 5 years immediately before you apply for a RRV, you will automatically get one that is valid for 5 years which re-sets your re-entry rights for another 5 years. If you have spent more than 3 years out of the 5 before applying outside Australia, it gets trickier and you can only get a RRV that is valid for 1 year (or perhaps even only 3 months) and certain eligibility requirements apply. Select the 'Visa applicants' tab then 'Who could get this visa' for details.

If you've been in Australia for nearly 2 years, can you possibly delay your travel until the 2 years is up? Then, you can stay outside the country for as long as 3 years and still be able to get a 5 year RRV easily. If you'll definitely only be away for 1 or 2 years, clocking up the 2 years isn't particularly important as you'll still be within the initial 5 year visa validity but if it's possible that your return may be delayed by a couple of years, having already met the requirements for a 5 year RRV will be invaluable when it comes time to return.

Thank you for your very informative reply. I appreciate it.

  2. Hi

I have been inOz for 15mths now and I plan to go back to UK for a holiday next year. I think I remember someone here saying that when we go back we can inform the pension people and claim the increases to the pension, just for the time we are in UK. I just wondered if anybody knew whether this was correct

  3. Hi Moira,

I see that you and me have very similar case with medical like me. I had submitted a paper Medical application to DIAS. I give Envelop with Medical exam to Australian Embassy, and now I have to wait so long. Please can you tell me what was problem for long time waiting in your case. I think this my case never finish. Thank you very much

    Lepa

    Hi Lepa

The panel doctor I saw sent the results of my medical to DIAC over the Internet. I think it took nearly 2 months before I heard that I had got my visa. I don't think there was a particular reason for them to take that long. It does end finally.

    best wishes Moira

  4. Hi Cath

My experience was that the Medical Centre I went to could not do it without the HAPD number (it was the centre in London). I had submitted a paper application to DIAS I do not know if that makes a difference. Given my time again I would phone around and find a centre that would do it early.

    Best wishes Moira

  5. Thank you for the replies to my post. I feel reassured. I can't quite believe its happening, feel as if I am going on holiday. B it I will be glad when I get on that plane and the goodbyes are done. People ask if I am excited and I am sure I am but at the moment the goodbyes are uppermost.

  6. Hi

Well I am finally off next Thursday. I have not had the visa put in my passport and just wondered if anyone knows whether Singapore or Hong Kong (the plane will be stopping at either one of these on the way out) require you to have something visible in your passport. I am taking the grant letter with me.

I see there are lots of new names on the forum now - more people of to the good llife

    best wishes moira

  7. Hi Everyone

its 4.30am UK time and I'm still awake.

I just had to share this with you all.

Its my big 60 on 28th of this month so I went out to a club with friends tonight (Friday) as its also one of their birthdays. They sat me on a chair in the middle of the room presented me with a beautiful cake and said they had a surprise for me.....knowing my friends I'm naturally thinking uh oh.....I got a kiss on the cheek from behind me , turned around AND THERE WAS MY DAUGHTER FROM OZ.....I couldn't believe it she has come over to surprise me for my birthday. I'm still in a state of shock it was a complete surprise even hubby didn't know. Sadly she couldnt bring the 3 grand kids BUT she has brought little Harry who is now 21 months old. With all the crap I've had going on I havnt seen him since he was 10 weeks old. Grandma has him tonight but I will meet him again tomorrow (well today) and I'm soooo excited I can't sleep.

Lots of hasty bedroom rearranging to do but what the h*ll. they are here until 4th February. Can't keep the smile off my face :-)

Phoebe thats wonderful - such joy.

  8. Good news and bad news from the Neurologist.....good news they have found out what is causing the swallowing problem 4 cervical Osteophytes one of which is 'beaking' causing the problem. He also found the nerve that runs down the right hand side is completely squashed all the way through....first step is a day procedure in few weeks to inject the bone and nerve in the neck to temporarily ease the neck, shoulder and arm pain then a major operation to remove the Osteophytes and repair the nerve...bad news is his waiting list is 12 months!!!

So now I have to decide if I'm going to continue putting my life on hold for another year. I havnt seen my family for 17 months now don't think I can bear waiting another year so I need to get my head around this and make some decisions.

    Phoebe x

Phoebe I am glad that the problem has been discovered, but 12mths waiting is awfule

Your family must be missing you as well. Wishing you well and let us know what you decision is

Oh I have just heard that they buyer for my flat has withdrawn. I have booked my flight for 21 March. Think I might rent it for a while

  10. Hello Moira, just seen your post and not sure if your meaning me with your query on my sons accounts, but if is me i think i will just make getting my AOS done in time before my final extension deadline of the 18th Jan this month, it's been nothing short of a complete nightmare moira, my sons end of year taxes were taking forever and still not done so i have to say this is were Agents come into their own and are well worth using, Alan Collette my agent was my saviour here and informed me of another way of doing the AOS with a PTY Limited which my son already has, you do not need your assurers end of year financials for proof of earnings but the draw back is you have to give centrelink $20,000 instead of the $10,000, we sent the forms off to centrelink middle of December but unfortunately being xmas and new year it slowed things up, my son contacted centrelink in canerra today he was told a letter would be sent from Adelaide so hopefully he will recieve that Tuesday my son takes the letter to the commonwealth bank in Perth to open the account for the AOS and then immigration is informed, so hopefully this can be completed before the 18th jan, my anxiety was so bad i had to visit my GP who prescribed me Beta blockers, never been so stressed in my life, after 2yrs of going through all this and seeing it slip away was just to awful to comprehend. Anyway fingers crossed all will be sorted next week and i will be joining you all in celebrating getting the precious visa. It's so unpredictable the visa process as just when you are confident all is going to plan.... Wollop.... you hit a problem that can snooker your plans. I have never been so glad to hand over my life savings.:twitcy:

My Grandson was born in Septemer and i haven't seen him yet so it will be so great to finaly meet him.

Congrats all went great with you Moira, absolutely great news....... get the tracker updated you deserve it. Lets hope i will be doing the same soon. I really can't thank Go Matilda enough otherwise i would never have known i could do the AOS this way. Ann

So pleased for you Ann. It does make handing over all that money seem like a relief.

    Best wishes to you Ann

    Moira

  11. Congratulations I will be applying in April next year wonder how long it will all take from start to finish?

    p

It took me 17mths. I think it would have been quicker but I did not get the medicals done before I had the case officer. But the 17mths from start to finish actually went quickly - as I look back on them.

    Best wishes for the future

    Moira

  12. Wishing everyone a good christmas.

Yesterday I received the request for my final payment. Ouch - that amount of money. But money is there to buy what I want and I feel grateful that I have been able to get it together.

I received my case officer on 5 October, medicals on the 10th October, the Panel Dr told me that Immigration would ask for further tests - so I worried, but no - no tests just asked for the money.

I wont quite believe it until I have the email telling me I have the visa. But its a great christmas present.

Ann - how did you get on with your case officer and the delay with your sons accounts?

Will try to update the tracker now

    Best wishes to everyone

    Moira

  13. Hi Everyone

    Just a quick update.

Hubby saw his consultant on Tuesday and I very happy to tell you all his results were clear  such a relief :swoon:

I've got my CT scan on 17th and MRI on 21st December with follow up appointment with Neuro Consultant on 14th January........everything is moving in the right direction now

Thank you all for your support :notworthy: it is much appreciated

    Phoebe

    Thats wonderful news Phoebe

    Thinking of you Moira

  14. Hi Moira, a bit confused here, I got the request for my medicals and Garda Clearance (I'm a blow in here) I'm Irish back in April and sent them off straight away. The medical was straight forward done in one day and sent off the next week. I got the request a bit too soon, but from what I gather the norm is 4 months before appointment of a CO.

Hope it all goes well for you, Fran.

Yes it is confusing. I tried to get my medicals done before I had my case officer but the 2 clinics in London would not do it without the HAP number. So I had to wait until I had my case officer. She has told me that the medicals are sent to Sydney so she has no idea what is happening. Maybe its because I did my application on paper, maybe if I had emailed it in it would have been different, although I cant see how.

Anyway - it has to happen in the end

    Moira

  15. Congratulations Summerdaisy - thats wonderful news.

I have had my case officer since 5 Oct and still now news on my medicals. My son spoke to her yesterday but she said she would give another extension and that medicals can take some time. How can it be so different for people? Still a game in patience.

    Best wishes Moira

  16. So nearly 2mths Val. I have been waiting about 4wks and have emailed twice. As you may remember the Panel Doctor told me that they would ask me to have further tests and I thought they would ask for them within 2 wks but I must wrong. I keep hoping they wont as for further tests, although I had a course of antibiotics and I am now OK.

Will let you know what happens

If I remember correctly you are in Oz at the moment, hope you are having a great time

    Moira

  17. Be thinking of you with all fingers crossed

    Moira

Im assuming you wouldn't be able to work on this visa same as normal holiday visas?

Just on another note I wrote to my MP not like me but really annoyed about the fact if you emigrate to a foreign country your pension goes up with inflation. I eventually got a reply yesterday to say she has brought it to the attention of the MP for work and pensions and will get in touch when she has a reply. I'll keep you all posted when I hear but don't hold your breaths :swoon:

In the meantime Neuro Surgeon appointment for me Monday 9.15 and biopsy for hubby Monday 3.45

  18. Hi there

My d-i-l has just paid the money to Centrelink. She said it was straightforward and easy. The only wait was for one half hours while someone photocopied the documents, so the moral of this story is to take a photocopy of the documents with you when going along to Centrelink (this is for the asurer).

I am still waiting for the Panel to get back to me and tell me what further tests I need to get!!!

    Best wishes

    Moiira
