  1. Loads in the hills. You'll see 4x4 Utes full of kit heading out there every weekend. Can't give you any specifics, as it's everywhere.
  2. Cats leave from the old Esplanade Bus Station (now Elizabeth Quay bus station).
  3. Only time I've really been in it was being dragged behind a speed boat for a few hours (a failed attempt at water skiing). Took a good week for the jelly fish stings to go. It doesn't look much better up at Ascott, but at least it's flowing. I'd be more inclined to jump in at the Left Bank in Freo, but then there is a higher likelihood of the water being a bit bitey.
  4. Mid-morning or mid-afternoon for a BBQ, or it's a long wait. If you don't enjoy it, it's only a $2.25 ferry trip ;-)
  5. Wouldn't it be cheaper to just Uber it when you need it? The problem with a 2nd car is the running costs and storage, for something you don't really want. I enjoy driving, so I have nice (to me) cars. The expense? Meh, it's not worth the time and stress to worry about economy or rego costs. Just get something I like.
  6. The "beach" at South Perth seems to do alright. The one thing I noticed that there were no free BBQs like other areas. I assume this is to stop people taking their own food/drinks.
  7. Big steel box frame with "Gusto's Gelato coming soon" (or similar) on the boards.
  8. Was there as well. Was impressed, but will be more impressed when there are some bars / restaurants there too. Looked like a Burger joint and an Ice Cream place are the only ones advertising "coming soon", hope there is a bit more in the pipeline! There were a few on a boat in the middle of the quay for the laser show. Swearing, drinking, loud music, etc. Disagree. Get it opened, and get people using it ASAP. I'm not sure about the kids stuff myself, would have preferred a bit more adult theme across the board. There was already a corner full of green flotsam and jetsam last night. More "Mandurah Canals"? Maybe an idea for Langley Park? It's not as if it's really used at all ..
  9. Generally means they don't like you as a candidate, and it's an easy get out for them. One of my clients has a full mix of Europeans, Asians, with a few other nationalities thrown in. But they are all a 'good fit' for their job.
  10. Of the people I've known go back it's been 2 sided. Temp skilled Visa / no work. So heading back as they need a job. Wife misses family/friends. So she is leaving with the kids no matter what, and the husband tags along on the return.
  11. Depending on time of arrival at the airport, get a cab to 'No Birds' / 'Bayswater hire cars'. Generally cheapest and usualy with enough km per day to get you to MR. Wine tours? DIY it. Start At Busso, and head down to Augusta. Go somewhere like 'Flame Trees' do some tasting, and then grab a map of all the winerys. Nice port at Gralyn Estate. Throw in some cave trips and a lighthouse or two. Busso is good for the beach .. very safe.
  12. I replied on the other forum too .. but I'll C&P it here. These are mine. No idea how much a family would cost. Council Tax - $2000 a year (only if you are an owner, renters don't pay) Water - $250 every 2 months ($200 of that is rates, which renters generally don't pay) Phone / broadband / TV - $70 for mobile (2 sims, 10GB, unlimited mins/sms/international calls) / $60 (100GB) / $150 Foxtel (I don't like 99% of Free TV) Gas - $150, 3 months Electric - $200, 2 months House Insurance - $150, monthly Car insurance - $900, annual (HSV GTS), $600 (Mercedes C Class), $300 (Mazda 3), $600 (Toyota Hilux) Weekly grocery shop - $200 (For 2, inc booze) nursery fees for a 3 year old - No idea. healthcare - $120 monthly Bupa (for single man), $60 weekly Gym. Rego is about $600 per car annually
  13. Wait for the new stadium before your move. Subi stadium isn't comparable to the ones over East. And only the Wet Toast fans are awful.
  14. Same as each of mine. And that's a big 4 bed place, and a 2 bed townhouse. Bit more gas, bit less electric.
  15. Consessions are in the table under "standard fares". If you use Transperth even semi frequently, you'd have a smart card to save the hassle. Who knows, a cheap pint and you may see, it's not all bad.
  16. I'll provide the link again .. http://www.transperth.wa.gov.au/tickets-fares/fares One zone, $2.25 .. I take the train several times a week. I also use the CAT buses several times a week. https://www.thehappiesthour.com/specials/perth/beer/ As an example, on the last page - $8 Kilkenny in Durty Nellies. All week. I've read they alternate the offer between Kilkenny, Guinness and Bulmers. That's the one is Shafto Lane that's always full. Seems a little feral, but then it's an Irish Bar, they attract a certain type. I've plenty of gripes with Perth, but affordability isn't one.
  17. And to throw in, the $2.25 train ride was comparable to to one stop I used to do in the UK when going out for drinks. I've just looked that up, and it's now £2.30. But my train on Friday was on-time, clean, air conditioned, and patrolled. Unlike the UK. And a pint is £4.65 in the local pub that I used to drink in (actually the same drink). Perth seems quite cheap now.
  18. Yeah, sorry again. When the bar has a special on what I actually drink, I should pack up and drink somewhere else.
  19. All buses are free in the FTZ, not just the CAT ones. It's just the CAT buses never leave the FTZ. Map here :- http://www.transperth.wa.gov.au/Portals/0/Asset/Documents/Tickets%20&%20Fares/PERTH_CAT_Map_2013-2.pdf And the Zone map is here :- http://www.transperth.wa.gov.au/Portals/0/Asset/Documents/Tickets%20&%20Fares/Transperth_zone_map.pdf So for $2.25 I can decide to train it to plenty of places for a drink. Subi, Clairmont, Leedy, Mt Lawley, Vic Park, Applecross .. and if I decide to change locations within 2 hours, it's free.
  20. Yeah, sorry. But I could have been 75c up, if I'd gone for a $7 pint instead of the $8. Oh well.
  21. Are you, that's nice dear. http://www.transperth.wa.gov.au/tickets-fares/fares One Zone, $2.25 .. Plenty of cheap pints here too. https://www.thehappiesthour.com/specials/perth/beer/
  22. Didn't even know he was Aboriginal (just like i didn't know Goodes was, till it all kicked off). Impressing speech, and got his point across. But I'd hardly say that the killing of Aboriginals was the 'Australian Dream'. More like BBQ, beers, pool and footy. Yes, something needs to be done about the Aboriginal problems of health, education and crime. But I feel that the opportunities are there from the government/establishment, they just need to be taken by the Aboriginal community. And I can't meaningfully apologise for what's been happening in Australia's past, as it wasn't me (and it wasn't even my ancestors) .. need to forgive, but not forget otherwise it'll be a constant point of issue.
  23. Airbeds are awful. Deflating during the night, one person moves and the other is woken up. Get a sofa bed over here to make do. You can then put it in a spare room later. Use futon style mattresses. Hit up GumTree for cheap stuff, and then re-sell it once your stuff arrives.
  24. WOW .. $30 .. that's so insanely priced, I'm not surprised it's only the 1%ers that can afford to eat. An example. Nice steaks, but most meals are actually under $30. http://bwgsteakhouse.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/BWG-Dinner-Menu-October-2015-Final1.pdf (okay, they may be $29, but that's still not 'in excess of $30') And I'd say that you are mainly paying for the view at Bluewater. Or if you are doing the touristy thing at Cottesloe? http://indiana.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Indiana-A-La-Carte-Menu-NOVEMBER-2015.pdf Again, there is a lot on offer for under $30. And again, you are mainly paying for the location. When a Red Rooster will set you back $15 .. I don't really see the issue.
