  1. Sorry me again Im now going down the TRA route, not to happy about this Vetassess gap training. Does anyone know what type of Electrician i should nominate myself for? On the application it ask if you are an Electrical Fitter or Electrical Mechanic? Im guessing Fitter. Im an Installation Electrician so would that be the one?
  2. Yeah not exactly what i had in mind. I ve done this crap in the UK working on Power stations, Oil refinerys and LNG storage facilitys. Cant be any worse than working on these. More importantly its a foot in the door, something i will do until i can find something else. Last thing i wanna do is go out without a job.
  3. One other thing. Anyone going out soon i would recomend a company for doing your white card. http://www.bluedogtraining.com.au Did mine last week with the web cam on me for the whole duration from home (UK). very easy and simple to do. costs $90 dollars but its one less thing to do when your out there. Looking at going end of the month if a job offer comes up. Luckly have a friend from the same town as me who has put my name forward. I had to have the white card to apply. The job is on the mines as a TA but pays $2300 a week. Fly in Fly out (FIFO) 4 weeks on 1 week off. I will do my best to see if there is any more TA positions available. if there is i will post on here.
  4. Hi All Just wanted to get some feedback from any of yourselves that have moved to perth recently or going to move this year. Hows the Job hunting going and if anyone has any kind of a glimpse at the new course for us un worthy sparkys that have to do the gap training through polytechnic west. Look forward to hearing from you in the near future.
  5. When we called them they did not have a clue what the program was going to be and the nice lady was equally frustrated at the program and also confirmed to us that employers need fully licensed electricians. Since then we have phoned back and She thinks its a 2 week course then you go and do your log book on site (for which you must be employed to have it checked by a licensed electrician). Once your log book is complete (anywhere up to a year) you then return to sit a final exam. once passed you can then apply to energy safe for the full unrestricted A grade license. Basically if your looking to apply for jobs make sure you get booked on this course before getting a start. I may have a job on the mines in september but its a "fifo" 3 weeks on and 1 week off and i dont know how thats gonna work with this gap training. I need to look at doing the course before the job starts. From what i gather theres a course running october (ring and confirm polytechnic west first) then every where shuts down until febuary next year. So im sure that its gonna get booked up quick as its the only place you can now do your gap training. Regards
  6. After endless phone calls of despair at the changes one of the questions i did ask at the licensing office at energy safe was about the down under tradies group and the course they run. The chap did acknowledge the company but stressed that there gap training was no longer a route that could be taken. Polytechnic west is now the only course that will be recognised through energy safe so beware!! Energy safe issue the license after seeing succesful training through there dedicated RTO :skeptical:
  7. Yeah thats exactly how we feel, we r supposed to be heading out Nov time hopefully. Cant really seem to find much info on it all on the net. Just hope employers are going to educated a bit with taking people in this situation on. Will you let us know how u get on? Where about are you heading to in WA?
  8. ah sorry my hubby wrote that i didnt read his previous post! hope for a good outcome but wont get my hopes up!
  9. Ok what meeting is it Biggaf? I hope it will get thrown out but apprently they have done it to be in line with the other states in Oz as think u have to do on the job log book thing with all the other states apart from wa up to now. Seems strange that they havent officially published it anywhere. The college in Balcatts is still offering the course even though Energy Safe have said if hubby did it they wouldnt even take it into consideration now. Its polytechnic west college and12 months log book or nothing! So frustrating
  10. Hi guys, well we have just found out over the past few days that WA have changed their pathway to gaining an A Grade Electricial Licence. My hubby will now have to do 12 months on the job expereince working on a restricted licence (all work will have to be checked) and do the college course. Up to a few weeks back he could have just sat the 2 week college course and then been given the licence. Really frustrated they have just changed this with no pre warning! We are now in a bit of a panic wondering whether ts actually going to be worth heading out to Perth now as Hubby cant really afford to take a reduced wage for effectively working as a trainee when we have a young family to support and i doubt there will be many employers looking to take someone on who doesnt have the full A Grade licence, every job vacancy on seek.com asks for one! Is there anyone else in the same boat as us?! Would appreciate other peoples thoughts on this as seriously worried!
  11. This just gets worse. No information or warning from Vetassess at all. We called Energy Safe this morning as they have had problems processing my application payment. we paid over the phone and then asked to be transfered to the licensing department to find out exactly whats going off! They informed us that there is one place now that you can do the gap training and this is Polytechnic west. The course will run for a year. No more 2 week course, to get your license! this loop hole is well and truly shut. We then called Polytechnic west and spoke to the department who is carrying out the training. The nice lady on the phone answered as honestly as possible with "we dont have a clue whats happening, we dont know what the course involves all we know is that Vetassess has appointed us as the official college" she then went on to say "its a joke, there are companys in perth that are desperate for ellectricans, we dont know how long the course will be for but there will also be a seperate course for employers to boost confidence in taking on electricians with the restricted license. we have a meeting scheduled with vetassess next week, until then we dont have any answers for your questions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel like im having a nightmare and that any minute im gonna wake up and everythings gonna be ok again. every job on seek.com.au states Electrician wanted must have A GRADE LICENSE!!
  12. Well done Jars!!! What did i tell you? I was a week out......we wish you all the best for the future, lets us know your travel arrangements and hopefully we will see you there soon. :ssign19:
  13. Try and get a reference to from previous employer. As much as you can supply
  14. Yes thats evidence of a Trade licence or registration to a trade authority
  15. At the bottom of the form it says you can supply a reference from an employer no more than 2 years old. that will give you another 35 points. Im also supplying my Part P and approved licence from the NICEIC as i have been self employed and are still registered to them. You can do that your self if your self employed and registered. Regards
  16. What we have to remember now is that most places and poweful nations are suffering and there are many that have never had the good times such as us. This credit crunch has affected us all each and every country and im sure this hang over will be on us for another decade before we really do see how deep the river flows. How would you like to be Greek or Spanish now knowing that your goverment is making you pay for somebody elses cock up. One thing is for sure! Australia has done very well out of this. Yes this is not over by far but where ever you go you will feel it, theres no escape!! You might as well get on with your life and stop worrying about something you can do nothing about
  17. Big congrats AIRDRIE Its a great feeling enjoy your night :em4500:
  18. Ha Ha i wish Jars. Soooo much to do. Just sending my application for restricted Electrical licence. Need this to be able to work and go to a tafe in Balcatta to do my Gap training. I wont be booking anything until this comes back and i have a date for a course (3 month waiting list). Probably fly out a week before course starts. few months wait yet. The licence will take 4 weeks to get processed! I dont wanna be sat on my backside when i go out. Just dont have the money. Also we have bits to finish on the house. Tiling in the kitchen, Drive to gravel, Door handels to fit and painting. Hopefully get it on the market at the end of the month and fingers crossed. Most of our Documents never said met when we got the grant. Have you uploaded PCs? I still think you will get your grant when your meds are finalised. Have they emailed you asking for anything else? Heres wishing a speedy grant
  19. Hi Jars, Really moving on here now. Just thought we would let you know we are Perth bound. How did the meds go?
  20. Heres what you can do: Book yourself on a course with PEER training (www.peer.com.au) and buy yourself the following books. http://www.saiglobal.com/shop/Script/Details.asp?DocN=AS678036347050 http://www.saiglobal.com/shop/Script/Details.asp?DocN=stds000017409 http://www.saiglobal.com/shop/Script/Details.asp?DocN=AS12820832AASS http://www.saiglobal.com/shop/Script/Details.asp?DocN=AS778112015227 (Note: If you keep your receipts for the books and the course, you can claim them back against your taxable income providing you claim them in the same tax year as you buy them) At Peer, you will be given a booklet to fill in. It will ask you to find the relevant section of the wiring rules to answer the question. This book can be filled in either at the training centre or at home, so really it’s up to you how long it will take to fill in. Once you have completed this you will then be able to take your exam, which is basically the same thing – filling in the relevant regulations. It usually takes anything from 2 – 4 weeks to get to the exam stage (well they have to look as if they are at least trying ). Once you have done your exam and passed, (impossible to fail, as they will tell you to amend things if they aren’t right), you will get a certificate to say you have completed the wiring rules course. You then take this and your ARTC certificate, which should have arrived by now) to the Office of Consumer and Business Affairs (OCBA) in Adelaide CBD. You will need to also fill in this form: http://www.ocba.sa.gov.au/assets/files/form1a_pge_indiv_ptship_07web.pdf and pay the fee ($338 currently, again keep the receipt as you can claim it back ) They will send you a letter asking you to have a photo done at various places (usually transport offices), once you have done that it will take approximately 10 to 14 days to receive your licence and away you go.
  21. Just to add.......Im the main applicant on our visa and because of that i was forced to do the Vetasess. If you gonna do that route visit britishexpats.com and look at the page which tells you how to prepare for Vetasess theory and practical exam. http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=520432 Heres another link for the ARTC application: http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=491978 Heres the link for the Electricians forum which covers most questions people ask: http://britishexpats.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=97 If you need any more help just ask. Theres a guy called Steve`o who lives and works in the Gold coast at present. He s really helpfull and has a lot more knowledge then me. You can find him on both these sites if you look through the pages he also started the first link i ve put on about the practical and theory exam above. Without that page i would had failed my Vetasess without doubt. I took about 3 months revising before i went and found the info spot on. I sailed through both practical and theory because of that. Regards If you need anymore help just ask
  22. Im not saying you dont have to do the Vetasess route. Of course you can do that but its costly compared to ARTC/TRA. There is no easy way really. Most Electricians want to do the ARTC/TRA route because all you have to do is send of your Certificates with detailed work history, References, Pictures, descriptions of tools used and Installations done. If you send enough they grant you the certificate. If you dont they can do Telephone interviews and ask you to sit Practical exams. If your other half wants to do the Vetasess then he can. But you wont see much change out of £2000 where as the ARTC/TRA is around £300.00 Im heading to Perth and on my application form for the Restricted licence it clearly states that i must the Vetasess certificate (OTSR) offshore Technical Skills Record or ARTC/TRA to get the restricted licence. You cant work without these. Gap training needs to be done then at a college which takes around 3-6 months. Once that is completed and i pass the exams i can then apply for a full licence. Some are saying once you have the restricted licence getting a job is difficult because your not allowed to work on your own and you need all your work checking by A licensed Electricians. You also dont get the full pay ($2 to $5 less maybe more) until your pass your gap training and get you A licence. Does that help at all?
  23. Yes one year from the date of meds and PCs to validate. Once validated you have up to 5 years to get out there. At least thats what it says on our visa paper work terms Regards
  24. Hi Yes you will need to apply to ARTC/TRA if you have your visa. Vetasess is for migration ONLY!! If your Other Half was the main applicant he would need to do Vetasess but he`s not so you will have to go the other route. If i was you and had your visa i would apply before you go out there but will need to have a friend or ozzy address to send his stuff to. Regards
  25. Once you get that clear to them you will get your visa. We never used an Agent my better half did it herself. We had no problems when we applied, within 2 days we got the case officer and all she wanted was meds and PCs. as soon as we got them we got the grant no questions. Tottally gob smacked! still in shock now. I ve printed the form and im gonna send it to a friend in Bayswater. Shes gonna forward it on with her address to be sent back to. Will let you know how i get on.
