  1. Hello and welcome, all our stuff was loaded into our 20' container yesterday and is expected into Melbourne in the 2/10/14. so i guess the proof of the pudding is getting there and unwrapping it to see if it's all in one piece, but the company were excellent. we went with White & company because they were offering a free period of storage as we needed to store our stuff as we sold our house super quick. having the free storage saved us £60+vat a week, so quite significant savings. they were affiliated with all the right organisations too, so was a no brainer really. we also went with a different insurance company - insure your move, who again are significantly cheaper and offer a better service in mu opinion. hope that helped. good luck with your move Pip
  2. Thank you. i'm sure it is normal, i'm sure iv'e forgotten something lol!! it is very daunting, you get swept away with it all. before you know it you're out of time!! i remember health checks, that seems a long long time ago now!! i sure will post an update. thanks again.
  3. Morning! i know they say 'time flies', but it really has flown by since our house sold in May. i thought we had a bit of time to see friends and family before we left, how wrong was i?!! it has come down to 3.5 weeks left to go! the house has gone, the car has gone, my bike has gone and our container is being loaded with all our possessions today and will be on its way in the coming days. my flight is booked for the 15th of September, and Mrs Pip will be joining us in November, just to give me a bit of time to find a rental, get a car, get a job......no pressure!! i'm feeling nervous now, all the hard work and worrying if the visa will be granted (P176 VIC state sponsored) has come down to this moment. it all seems very surreal. just wanted to get that all out there, and wish all the people here that have helped us all the best, and everyone going through the same thing good luck in the future. i am heading for Mordialloc for the first 4 weeks, then i don't know where, so if there are any on here up for a meet up from the 15th of september, drop me a line, i'd be glad of a bit of a get together and a chat. thanks everyone Pip.
  4. ok, here's my first stab. it will change tomorrow though! Led Zeppelin - (anything really) Ten Years gone Kaaris - Ciroc Deadborn - Stigma Eternal Tricky - Wash My soul Opeth - (anything again!!) Hex Omega. maybe not to all tastes, but maybe something for everyone?!! ta!
  5. I'd have trouble narrowing it down to 20, let alone 5 !!
  6. Hi Mrs G, welcome to PIO. it will all depend on which visa you want to get and whether your OH's occupation is on the wanted list. we used an agent, and think we made the right decision. some use them, some don't ; it all depends if you are confident enough to give it a bash. we used Visa Bureau and thought they were excellent, they have a points calculator you can use free to see if you can get enough points. best of luck. i'm sure others on here can advise you Pip.
  7. Hi Jacko, As for the bank question, i set up mine this week with NAB. you can do it all online and you just pick your bank cards up at the branch you nominate on the application. very easy. also they are linked with moneycorp who can get a better deal than the banks for the money transfer. good luck, I'll be in Melbourne in September! good luck to you. Pip.
  8. hi Gavin, sorry for the late reply. I've not had any luck to be honest, although there seems to be jobs there and I have applied for around 5/6 jobs so far (unless it's just the agencies 'creating' jobs to get cv's of course). I'm staying positive, and hoping that something will turn up when I get there in September. I just keep checking seek as I'm sure you do too. im also on LinkedIn, have you registered on there ? I'm not seeing much on there, but may be helpful to you. let me know how you get on, I'm interested to here of some success! all the best paul
  9. thank you. good luck with yours too! all the best. x
  10. thank you! it's a big move isn't it! you realise just how big when you have to organise things. on our first week of viewings we had 10 couples come round, it got a bit much when you have a 6 month old baby. it all worked out in the end though, which is exactly what i hope will happen in oz! our removals are turning up on wednesday, i think that will be emotional - i've been in the house 15 years now! still, onward and upward! i think it's natural to get the jitters, well i hope so anyway!!
  11. Hi zk. we put our house on the market for £10k more than the estate agents valuation as we were not in any hurry and it sold in 3 weeks! we are moving to my mums this week for a few months before the move - and the sick feeling doesn't get any better!! i have booked my flight to melbourne for september, arranged a short term rental, my wife and little one join me in November so it will be hard being away from them too. haven't managed to get any online interviews yet, so that's stressing me. it's seeming real for us too - after all the planning and work to get the visas. it all seems like a dream - but now it's all real. scary but exiting at the same time. what an adventure though! whereabouts are you heading? Paul.
  12. so were they sealed bottles or half full? maybe sealed containers would be safer to say that they're not filled with other unwanted liquids? thanks for your input!
  13. As the title says really. sounds trivial, but i like good quality products and they cost me a lot of money!! is it possible to send all my waxes and polishes in our container? thanks peeps!
  14. Hi Eera, thanks for the reply. i always wanted to work in the automotive industry, so i guess trucks would be an avenue i could explore as i know that is a big industry in Oz. i'll have a hunt around for that. thanks paul.
  15. Hello Guys I'm super nervous about making the move, and to cap it all off i can't seem to find any jobs in my field. we have our visas and my qualifications have been verified by engineers Australia, so it's all systems go!! I'm a qualified mechanical engineer, and have spent my time in the UK working in the automotive industry designing jig and fixture tooling for motor vehicle manufacture. i hear that Ford are migrating to China, and Ford are one of the groups i have designed for quite a lot in the past. is it becoming harder to work in the automotive industry in Oz now? i'm worried!! i guess i could work with trucks also? i am with one agency, but i don't get much input from them - well none at all! i know i am currently in the uk,is this the issue? i am in LinkedIn and have searched various other agencies, but i'm not getting much info does anyone know if these sorts of jobs get filled internally? i hope someone there can give me some guidance. any pointers greatly recieved thank you, aul.
