1. Hi I was wondering if someone could clarify a question for me. I qualified last month as an Operating Department Practitioner in the UK (ODP) and have an interview for a private hospital in australia for the role of anaesthetic technician with 457 sponsorship. Before proceeding further I was wondering if there is actually a minimum work experience requirement for the 457 visa? I don't want to be offered a job and then fall at the last hurdle when I apply for the 457 Thanks
2. Hi just quick question, I will be looking at the 457 route early next year. Does it depend on which occupation or country you're applying from whether or not medicals and police checks have to be done? Some posts i'm reading haven't needed them and others have. Thanks J
3. Hi, thanks. No its just I seen couple of jobs and 457 was mentioned. I think 189/190 is the safest option, just looking down all avenues.
4. Hi, could someone please clarify if a carpenter is eligible for a 457 employer sponsored visa and if so is a skills assessment required? Regards
5. He has evidence going back further than 5 years for previous employment but for the past 4 he worked for a company who no long exist. He does have P45, payslips etc but would be unable to obtain any sort of reference
6. Thank you, Vetassess certainly is an obstacle course!
7. Hi, My husband is a joiner and has recently made made redundant as the company he worked for went into liquidation. He has worked for them for the past 4 years. As a requirement for Vetassess he needs to provide evidence of employment, work experience etc for the last 5 years. How do I do this? I hope someone can clarify this.
8. Aww congratulations, you're on a roll now xx
9. Hi, i'm watching this thread closely. I'm about to start university to study as an Operating Department Practitioner and at the moment this occupation isn't on any of the state sponsorship lists. I understand in Australia they are known as Anaesthetic Technicians and at present there is only ACT who have this occupation listed, albeit "Closed". I would be interested to see if anybody has achieved SS through a Closed occupation. Jo

Hi Vicky, I hope you don't mind me messaging you. You say that you live near Gladstone, I was just querying about the proposed Steel Plant supposedly being built in Gladstone as I heard it had recetly gone into administration. My husband curently works in a large steel plant in England and hoped that this would be a possibility when we emigrate, which is not until 3 years time!! I am currently about to start university to become an operating department practitioner (Theatre/anaesthetic technician) and we are hoping to move to queensland, jobs permitting, maybe somewhere between Brisbane and Rockhampton, but I suppose we would go where the jobs are. I hope you can help with the info regarding the steelworks and also point me in the direction of main hospitals which I can research.

12. Hi all, I start my access to health in September also, and i'm really looking forward to it. Not sure if I want to do childrens nursing or dietician, don't know if a dietician is sought after much in oz. I am 34 so I will be 38 when I qualify (if I get into uni first time!!) :daydreaming: I can't wait and wish I had done this earlier. Ah well, good luck everyone we will all be helping each other on the access course ha ha!!
13. Thank you that makes sense. Medical/nursing is definitely what I will do as I will be happy doing either if i stay in UK.
14. Hi there, I am currently waiting to start an access course in health sciences and would like a bit of advice. I am basically changing career path in order to emigrate to oz with my family. I am wanting to go down the path of childrens nursing but unsure if this is in demand in Australia. Could you also tell me if a dietician is in demand in oz as this was another career path I was originally wanting to do. Any help is much appreciated.
15. Hi there, I'm new to this site (well not been on for years!) and in the process of thinking about emigrating. My husband is a steelworker and I was wondering if this is an occupation in demand? If not I am hoping to train as a childrens nurse and would have to wait until I was qualified before we could make the move. My husband is a qualified joiner but has not worked in that field for a couple of years so we don't know which route is available to us. Hopefully somebody can shed some light for me. Thank you. x
