I haven't read this thread properly, but as we've been here 6 months & it's been a very hard 6 months it's always interesting read peoples' thoughts. We love Sydney, but the rents are crippling, and we wonder if we'll ever be able to afford to buy a house for use & our 2 children, yet we own 2 properties between us in the UK. The childcare is shocking!! Huge waiting lists, really hard to get places, and then the quality of care & education is really poor to what we were used to back in the UK, and of course general shopping is expensive. Centrelink and medicare administratively are useless, tax department are constantly wanting money although we declared ourselves out of the country for a number of years. And a whole new medical system where you seem to pay for everything. However, as we spend more time here and move to a nicer place (the dives you rent for so much!! :-( )), and hopefully make some friends and enjoy the Summer we'll feel alot happier, but there is a reality check, Sydney is not perfect, it's a great place but you do have to adapt to different pros and cons.
