  1. If money is your driver for moving, I wouldn't bother. You only have to look at the ones doing the loudest moaning on here, a lot are people living somewhere that they don't really want to, just to earn extra coin.

    Forget that, life's too short.

Just live your life, if you're happy where you are, stay put.

  2. Make a scoring card about what features, facilities and amenities are important to you and your family.

Target some suburbs before you get here using realestate.com. Think budget as well house characteristics and other options e.g. pool, block size, air con, nearby public transport.

Get yourself into a holiday rental for a few weeks when you get here.

Get a car, visit your target areas and research e.g, what would your commute be like? Is the area kid friendly? etc.

Lots of people rent in areas that they couldn't afford to buy in so as to be in school catchment areas. Bear that in mind.

  3. Obviously an age thing but for me, most televised sport is lacking something now that the likes of Coleman, Brian Moore, Motson, Pickering, Barry Davies (the best IMO) and others are no longer on.

    RIP David.

  4. Unfortunately the conversations would go along the lines of "well, if you set up an open-path Fourier Transform Infra-red Spectroscoper using an active IR source of around 1800 degrees, you then can measure sulphur dioxide concentrations to parts per billion..."

It's a lot less exciting than it looks on paper.

Yeah, you've just convinced me. Ha!

  5. We have Foxtel, although I can't exactly bring myself to recommend it.

It's good for Sport and the docos are pretty much the same as are on Sky. The Entertainment and Movie sections are pretty poor though.

The terrestrial TV is like ITV on steroids, on every channel i.e. diabolical. All I watch on free-to-air is the news and some sport e.g. The Ashes are on 9.

  6. We applied and couldn't wait. We packed our jobs in, sold the house and came over on a tourist visa whilst we waited for the PR to be granted. I wouldn't advise it really, but we just thought 'what the hell'. We had 6 months holiday before the PR was granted, did a lot of travelling in WA, lived it up a bit. Spent all the money we'd made from the UK house sale but it was worth it.
