  1. Newjez: and what about the Lib Dems? I agree that a total realignment is now possible. When did it last happen in the UK? In the early 1900s, over Home Rule for Ireland? Of course, first past the post voting always inhibits the rise of third parties. But the central issue is no longer the old one of capital versus labour. We might have to start a new thread!!!

The Italian situation is nothing to do with Brexit, that's a ridiculous assertion. People will be saying that Brexit is to blame for Greece next.

The situation with Countries like Spain, Greece, Italy, Portugal and others is long-standing and will continue whether the UK is in the EU or not.

Financially, the EU is not working, full stop. And I doubt it will again, either with or without the UK.

As for Corbyn, good on him. Seems democracy is thin on the ground at the moment, hopefully he landslides again. Eagle is just another Diet Tory.

  2. I was surprised that Blair had the temerity to show his face recently to comment on the Brexit result. I kind of thought he’d be keeping a low profile, what with the findings of this report due.

Pretty much what a lot of people thought at the time, no WMDs, lackying to the Yanks, lying to Parliament and the people.

A lot of people have said after the Brexit result that there should never have been a referendum and decisions like the EU vote are what elected MPs are for. Well, here’s a living, breathing example of why that logic is flawed; sometimes, ordinary people know better than Politicians driven by agendas.

The Labour party is a basket case right now, and that’s Blair’s fault as well. The members want a Labour leader, the MPs want a Diet-Tory leader; this is all down to Blair. Leaves the door wide open for the Tories to establish a dynasty without breaking sweat.

Blair’s legacy could actually be worse than Thatcher’s. Illegal wars, Dr David Kelly, saturation bombing of civilians, ill-equipped UK soldiers killed, lying to Parliament, widespread welfare dependency for cheap votes, widespread open-door immigration for cheap votes, alienation of middle England fostering the rise of far-right politics and parties, the rise of ISIS, increased instability in the Middle East … the list goes on.

Oh yeah, and Cool Britannia. Thanks Tony.

  3. All this referendum stuff has been mad and a bit stressful to say the least. It got intense even from here, with everyone on Facebook going nuts. It's all very divisive!

Irrelevant of 'sides', and who is right and wrong and all that jazz, the whole situation has made me realise that I am glad to be here! Glad to be out of it. It's also made me realise that I should get off Facebook, out of the 'UK' bubble, and mentally engage with being here seeing as it's 12,000 miles from home.

Anyone in the Sydney area ever want to catch up for a coffee, I'd be into that. Time to make some friends here

This will go off topic into Oz bashing territory again.

Took us a couple of years to abandon a lot of the UK-centric things we were clinging to and we never looked back. You're right, if you stay in that bubble, you never fully move on.

Try a local FB group rather than a site of Poms, a lot of whom are dissatisfied with their lives.

  4. Really.....I love the winters in the UK. They have been very mild and dry for the last few years which is a disappointment, I much prefer the snow and sunny frosty mornings..:cute:

Odd that. I was in the UK last Xmas for 6 weeks and it rained every day. And there were massive floods on the news every day. And the weather was shite and horrible every day. Must have been a different UK.

  5. Got to stop going to the gym on a Monday morning! Last week I was there when Phil Spencer was showing a couple around some "desirable" residences in Sydney - Auburn and Campbelltown were two of the places - WTF was he thinking? A third place, just as undesirable has slipped my mind (best thing for it!). I was laughing hysterically on the treadmill! Not a good look!

Fast forward to this week (same time, silly me!) and there was Phil showing a couple of blokes "desirable" properties in Adelaide - I felt sick, physically ill - and it wasn't the treadmill! The dry barren aspect just brought back all that I found alien. There he was showing (I assume) the wonderful view from the patio - yuck! Paul Keating's ar*e end of the world personified! Regularly walking miles through lush green, vibrant spring colours (got to love the daffs and cowslips) it just highlighted for me how much I hate the harshness and appreciate the mellow! More therapy needed obviously!

I wish I knew you. You sound so interesting.

  6. Also don't put yourself down, there are plenty of skills that I"m sure you do have. Maybe not paper qualifications, but lifeskills which add value.

    Nice touch!

  7. As you'll know, every house in Australia has cockroaches everywhere so it might be best if you just circle the City continuously in your plane and parachute to work every morning leaving your eldest child at the controls. You could always wing-walk to pick up your Hungry Jacks every night through the drive through. Tricky at first but we seem to manage.

    Good luck der Baron!

  8. I'm quite passe about steak but there's a South African shop near me and they do a steak rub that transforms any piece of beef into something unbelieveable.

Also, their curly wurly sausages are gorgeous athough my Mrs finds them slightly unsettling.

  9. Pork Belly is ludicrous. I cannot get enough of it.

My carnivore instinct is at full pelt lately. I'm a full-on Junior Pitmaster. I've watched a lot of Man vs Food recently and it's fuelled something insane.

  10. Nobody believes me or they'll just say I live in a crap area (I don't!) but I always have to wait at least two weeks for a appointment.

My Mum says this as well, she says the receptionists (first line support) try to diagnose her, if she doesn't want their say so, she has to wait 2 or 3 weeks to see a real Doctor.
