  1. Hi Bettyboohwoo, Thanks for a brilliant post on here, so glad you are loving living the dream. We are just waiting for our visa having got a CO in Jan and had the meds and police checks done and sent off. We haven't sold our house yet as the property market in Ireland is petty bad at the moment. Our only child (daughter) lives with her husband and 2 girls in Avoca Beach NSW and she is expecting another baby in August :-) we are thrilled of course and really want to be over there ASOP. We have looked at rentals in case we can't get the price we need for our house to enable us to buy, but rentals in Avoca and surounding areas are still pretty expensive. We are the same age as you and your Husband 67 me and 68 Hubby, we have looked at the houses in retirement estates but they do not let you rent which would be ideal for us, and we can't afford to buy them as they are expensive too and you have to pay a yearly fee on top. But we are convinced that it will all work out for us, and seeing your post really gave us a lift, so thanks once again. Best wishes to you and your family. Ann and Roy. :-)
  2. Does anyone have information on shipping removal companies in Ireland? Not Pickford as I have not had very good reports about them.
  3. Hi Ariomart I don't think we should bother about our ages Roy and. I are will be 68 & 67 this year when we get over to Australia, and I know a friend of mine who went when she was 70 that was 4 yrs ago. She did voluntry work a couple of hours now and then in Brisbane Aquarium, she met lots of friends and went on lots of trips, and got married this year to an Australian man, so age doesn't count at all :-). Our daughter and family have just come back from a holiday in Melbourne and they said it was a great place. They did a house swap (they are in Avoca Beach) and it was very sucessful, a cheap way to get around the country. Regards Ann
  4. Hi Summerdaisy(Frances), the meds turned out fine for both of us. They were done at the Mater private hospital in Dublin and cost 275 euro per person. Extremely efficient and very friendly people and they send all the results electronically to the DIAC so its also very quick, no messing about with snail mail. PHOBE- So sorry that you have had such a rough time lately, sometimes it gets you down I know, but keep thinking positively and Roy and I hope this new start to the new year will bring all good things for you all. Ann and Roy App 173 acc; Oct 2010-CO Dec 2011-Meds & Police Jan 2012. :-)
  5. Feeling nervous now we are going for our Meds in Dublin on Monday. Police checks done so thats OK, hope the Meds turn out the same. Just looked at the exchange rate for the Euro against the AU dollar-1.24 it keeps getting lower :-( As does the price of our house, when it finally is sold, we may have to live in a tent in our Daughters garden :-( Not going to give up after getting this far though :-) :-) Ann and Roy.
  6. HI everybody thanks for the good wishes. We have managed to get an appointment in Dublin for our Meds on Jan 9th, amazed we could do it so quick and the cost is 275 Euros each (if anybody wants to know who is going through the same thing in Iereland). Should be getting our Guarda checks within the next 2 days also. We will be going to Avoca Beach NSW where our Daughter and family live, although I don't think we can afford to buy there, maybe not too far from then though. Having saved up for the last 4 years scrooge I know :-) but it has been worth it, we have enough money for our visas thank goodness. All we need to do next is sell our beautiful home so as to have money to buy over in Aus, here's hoping that it will be sold this summer. Can't seem to get on the tracker for some reason so here is the updat-173App accepted 10th Oct 2010-CO 19thDec 2011. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL AND KEEP THE FAITH. Ann and Roy Henry.
  7. Wow after posting on here yesterday that we have been waiting 14mths for a CO we have just got an email to say that we have one. WHAT A GREAT CHRISTMAS PRESENT. NOW Meds & Police checks it says we have to have them done and back to them within 28 days on one letter and on another it says 47 days, does anybody know which it should be? Ann and Roy absolutely thrilled to bits :-)
  8. I think that everybody in the DIAC must be already on holiday. We had our 173 visa app accepted Oct 2010 and still haven't got a CO, and we were told it would be 12mths!!!! Regards Ann & Roy
  9. CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU,AND THANKS FOR THE GOOD WISHES. We have had our house up for sale for 2yrs now and are hoping it sells before we get our visa's next spring. Ann.:spinny:
  10. Hi my daughter and family live in Avoca Beach wich is near Terrigal, both are quite expensive, about 450,000 for a 3/4 bed house. If you try Erina and Kincumber near by its a little bit cheaper and also Copacobana and The Entrance. Log on to realestate.au web site and you will find loads of areas around the Central Coast. Good Luck and enjoys your stay. Ann.
  11. Hi, Can anybody answer my questions. Having read PhoebeW's post I am a bit confused. When you get a CO do you have only a certain time to go for Police Checks and Meds, if so how long. And once you have sent them how long do you have before you have to validate your 173 visa? Thanks Ann.
  12. Dear Phoebe, Very sorry that you are going to have to start again. We haven't sold our house yet either, but if we can't sell by the time our visas come I think we will just rent our house out and then rent in OZ until it does sell. We have been trying to get to our G/Daughters since they were 4 &5 and now they are 8&9. It drives you crazy after a while but don't give up. Ann and Roy Henry:hug:
  13. Just put our house with a new estate agent today, dropped the price by one hundred and seventy thousand euro's-down to e 250,000, just about giving it away :-( Hope somebody buys it soon. Ann & Roy.
  14. Wow !!! don't know how you managed that. We were told it would take us 15-17 months from date of receipt, and our was Oct last year, been told we should get our CO by Dec or Jan. Maybe because Ireland beat Australia we have been put on hold  Regards Ann & Roy.
  15. Hi, Our daughter lives in NSW and she rang up the DIAC. We have applied for 2 yr temp visa's, and will then apply for permanent ones in due course. W have been planning this for the past 3 years, and will be glad when we can be with our family. Regards Ann & Roy.
  16. Good Luck to you, you made it. Our daughter phoned us this morning to say that our application has been looked at at last, so we should be getting a CO soon. Fingers crossed for us. Regards Ann and Roy.
  17. Hya, we had our 173 app accepted Oct 2010, so hoping we get our CO at the end of this year, and then visa's next May. It takes such a long time and we are getting a bit fed up. The Grandchildren are growing up so fast, skype is good but its not the same as being there. We still have to sell our house too. But its good to know that the system works, as you got your visa's. Thanks Ann and Roy
  18. Hi Steve Thanks for your reply, we got it wrong about the OC, haven't got one yet you are quite right. Oh well I suppose that it gives us more time to sell the house over here in Bankrupt Ireland. Ann and Roy.
  19. We lodged our application for a Temporary 2 yrCPV in Oct 2010 using an Agent. We were told that we had been allocated a Case Worker just before Christmas but haven't heard anything yet. We were told that it would take about 12-14 months for it to come through. I know we will have to go for our Medicals before the visa is granted, but don't know when these usually take place. Is it towards the end of the process?. Me and my husband Roy live in Ireland and are in our late 60's, so for anyone in the forum who thinks they are too old to move to Australia DON'T BELIEVE IT. Yes its expensive to buy the 2yr visa and then the permanent one, its costing us about 70,000 euros including the 10yr bond, but it will be worth it to be with our children and grandchidren, and to live in a warm climate of course. So good luck to all you Parents, save up like we have and just go for it. Ann and Roy.
