  1. We lived in Melbourne and moved over to WA for the same reason, OH a FIFO worker and was losing too much time travelling.  Albany and Esperance are a long way from Perth Airport, not good for coming off a 4 week swing and having to drive another 7 hours!  I would definately stay further up.

"There is evidence from the OECD that reflects access to social security systems is not necessarily high on the factors people consider," Mr Bennett told a Senate estimates hearing on Thursday.

Of course it is! One of the popular questions on migration forums and FB pages is people asking "what benefits am I entitled to!  some before they have even set foot in the country!

I wonder why people are asked to write this, I can't imagine any possible reason why NT would be better than any other state unless you were a crocodile hunter or working with indigenous communities or something like that.

Probably to make sure that people fully understand what its like living in the NT, the extreme heat etc, living costs.  Its not exactly the same as living in the middle of Melbourne!

There is no Security in Australia anymore ,for any dual citizen, now that Turnbull 's new laws are in . You get ill ,and are deemed a burden on the Australian Health service you are deported back to your country of origin. And your Australian citizenship is cancelled. If you break the the Law,depending on your crime, same  result. No matter how long you have lived and worked in Australia.

    I smell sh1te!

  5. Mostly packed lunches I would think at Primary and Kindy.  I lived in Melbourne and Perth and both schools my daughter went didnt do lunches. Maybe a bit too hot to be eating hot lunches every day!  Our primary now has canteen facilities but they are only open 2 days a week and they order in from the High school. You definately dont get them free!

I think the thing that irks a lot of us that have paid into the NHS via our NI contributions for all our working lives of over 45 years is that we are asked to pay again should we need anything when visiting the UK, we in fact are paying double in that we have travel insurance and have paid full NI contributions. I think we all know that the clever ones that come to use the NHS for free are well versed into how to cheat the system. Lets just hope that Brexit when it is all sorted will stop some of the health tourists.

But you havent made 45 years contributions here but do you expect to get Medicare free?

  7. That is not new legislation.  For at least the last 10 years if you come over straight away on a PR visa  you need to have 4 years residency before you can apply for citizenship. You CANNOT be absent for more than a year in the four year period.

    Residency requirements are

    • have lived in Australia on a valid Australian visa for four years immediately before applying
    • must have been a permanent resident for the 12 months immediately before making an application and not have been absent from Australia for more than one year in total, during the four year period, including no more than 90 days in the 12 months before applying.

It is hours and hours on a plane to the next large city- that classes as isolated for me. Not like UK to Europe at all- more like UK to Siberia if you like. It takes a week to drive over to Melbourne if you can be bothered. I think it is closer to Bali ( less than 4 hours).

It takes 4 days actually and that is stopping overnight, have done it several times.
