I really dont feel sorry for the sales people losing their jobs, they knew exactly what they were doing. People had no hope of completing the course but it didnt matter as long as they got their commission!

Not in my day and certainly not at my school where academic merit was prized far more. As it was said in a jocular manner he took it in the sprit intended. Fair play to the Aussies they give out a fair bit of joshing but they take it on the chin as well.
Jeez you must be old then! Times change, they dont keep score on a slate anymore!

Like most poms I was subjected to good humoured banter about England's lack of sporting prowess. When I pointed out to a colleague that as far as I was concerned being bad at sport was a compliment since only the kids too thick to do anything else did sport he was equally taken aback.
No wonder he was taken aback! There is one thing having banter, that comment was just rude and very childish! A lot of very clever kids do sport!

You need to decide where you are going before anyone can help you with the licence process. Each state has its own licencing authority and different requirements.

If businesses are not willing to pay this to get a skilled worker then their need must not be as urgent as they say, which would give them more time to take on an Australian and train them.

Absolutely should happen with skilled visas as well. If there is no skill shortage the numbers should be decreased, theres no point bringing thousands more over to be unemployed.

Yes it is a temp visa with the TRT scheme route to permanency as a possibility. This should not be changed for current 457 holders should it?
You have just said it yourself that it was only a possibility! So unfortunately the risk some people have taken has not paid off. It is sad when people now have no hope of staying but so many have just taken it that because its been so easy before they would automatically be able to apply for residency. Unfortunately times change and along with it so do visa conditions. Hopefully you can find a way :-)

You 'should' be able to provide your IELTS results to avoid having to do it again, but i doubt that would ever happen..Does seem silly to have to do it multiple times though.
Cal x
Not everyone does IELTS though, its only the main applicant, or some people dont even need to do it, we didnt,

I think when they change the test everyone will have to sit an english test as part of it. I would think one of the reasons being would be they cannot discriminate and if they made for instance someone from India sit the test but not someone from UK(even though its their first language) they would be accused of racism, has to be one test for all.

Husband is a plumber and the assessment requires a first aid course with additional topics such as bites Etc.... therefore the costly 3-day course
ok,just never heard of that before!

Why are you doing a first aid course for a visa?

Sorry to say it but a likely reason the 457 was cancelled. Any employer seeking to employ an 'outsider' on such a meagre wage, imo, should be seriously looked into. Sydney being one of the worlds most expensive cities. I do feel for the OP though, as hopes would have been built up.
Because they don't want to spend money on training someone, it's easier and cheaper to pay for a visa. That's what has to stop unless there is an urgent need

Are you sure you are not looking at the landlords charges. We rent out a property and We have to pay a letting fee for the agent finding a tenant, then an Admin fee, 12% of the rent per month as a management fee, then everytime the lease is renewed (even with the same tenant) there is another fee. Never heard of tenants having to pay an application fee.
The laws regarding renting are much more stringent so in a 2 bed house there are 3 smoke alarms all connected so if one goes off they all go! a heat sensor thing, a carbon monoxide alarm, we even have to get all the taps, showers etc tested every year for Legionella!

English requirement is a Joke. I did IELTS 8 each to get my PR now they are expecting me to do 6 each again to get citizenship......!! This looks more like joint venture with IELTS conducting bodies like (AEO IDP British council ). Just a thought , what do u think?
Probably because it does not just affect English people. There are so many nationalities applying for citizenship they cannot have one test for some and make execptions for others, it has to be the same across the board or they will be accused of being racist.

They also provide required skills and experience; not forgetting tax revenue and contribute to GDP.... It is generally more costly for a company to recruit using the 457 visa. Which is usually only used when the required skills and experience cannot be obtained in the local labour market.
We are dual nationals and find the labour market here in Australia quite discriminatory, so this change in policy is no surprise.

What if the partners did? My wife did IELTS as we are not native English speakers. I am not saying we will not take it, we will. I just took IELTS last year for different reason and got 8, so I am not worried. I am just saying that if you have tested people already on their English during their skilled migration application, what is the reason to test them again? Unless they think living in Australia for 4 years deteriorates your English skills.
They cannot do it on a case by case basis, it just has to be one rule. Unfortunately the people who have moved here already and not bothered their arses to put any effort into learning english or integrating have spoiled it for others now.

The only confusing thing about the requirement is that skilled migrants already have to prove their English skills while applying for permanent residency. Why should they take English test again for citizenship? The comment that Migrants should learn English does not make sense as people who migrate through skilled visas, get their PR only because they at least have functional English. Don't understand that part.
The partners dont though so it will be to ensure they have English skills also

You wont get anywhere reasonably priced if you want to go back at Christmas. We went back Christmas past and just for a 2 bed flat it was really expensive.

I dont think you have much. You should have both informed immigration as you should not be on her visa anymore. I dont know if you get the 60 days notice to leave the country. Have you tried getting sponsored on your own?

WOW @VERYSTORMY what a career path you have had and all those redundancies!
Thats pretty normal for the mining industry here. Very few jobs are permanent. Contracts can go from one swing to several years, but you know that when you take the job.
Can you pack boxes yourself?

I have packed boxes myself going from Perth to UK, and coming back again, no problems whatsoever. The container didnt not even get opened when it got to the UK it was delivered with the seal still intact. The only thing that got opened coming back to Australia was the bike box and one with tools in.
