  1. Hi My OH is a bricklayer and we had a dream to come to the land of milk and honey! Back in 2007 they said it was hard but there was plenty of work and now the mining boom is over they say the same, best advice is if he is good at what he doea, get out there, walk onsite and ask for work. Give it a try, if he is worth it he will get work and a good wage but the summer is a killer no doubts. The bush flies will test him but most brickies have a strong mindset so good luck. Getting up at 4am is no fun but if he finishes at 3pm and you have a pool it' ok x
  2. Hi We are looking to ship my Suzuki Swift Sport back to the UK from Perth, it's only done 1500 km's and I purchased it in November 2015. My husband has a Mitzy Challenger purchased the same time and also low mileage and we have be quoted RoRo $4950 for both. I feel it's worth it, what do you think? If we trade them in or try to sell them here we will lose more money than it costs to ship and from what I have seen they are dearer to purchase in the UK. We do have belongings to ship also and wondered if a container would be better and that we can them maybe store stuff in the cars. Is this right or am I deluded!! Thanks
  3. Hi Bob The crates are plastic, why will the cost more? I will get the measurements to you asap and as we only live round the corner from Gatwick can they fly from there?
  4. Hi I have worked in the hospital, it seems very nice and is rather like a hotel than a hospital. Good luck!
  5. Thanks Bob, they are going back to Oz, they flew to UK 2 and half years ago but although they had their Rabies jabs they didn't require the blood test to leave Australia and had we known we would be going back again we would have had the blood test in Perth and then kept it up here! Hindsight ay .... but although their vaccine is still current I have had the booster done first and the blood test is on the 30th March and that is when the 180 days count down begins, which right now seems like forever! So for anyone that thinks they may ping-pom it's worth knowing that they should keep their pets up to date with RNATT whilst in the UK. I could have risked paying 110 gbp each dog to get the RNATT done first but their antibodies may have been too low and then I would have to pay for another test after the booster, seems silly to risk wasting any money not too mention the time gone by as it takes around 2 weeks for the result. I am hoping we can use the crates they came to the UK in as they haven't changed in size or weight and do you know if there are any plans to open quarantine again in Perth?
  6. My dogs are due the RNAT test on the 30th March do they just need to pass the test or is there a number they have to achieve for a pass result please Bob?
  7. Thanks for that info Skani, I shall look into it but the word back from a couple of companies I contacted over there are that it has slowed down alot in this trade and may not be holding good prospects for us. However I shall continue to research and plan our visit  Donna
  8. Thanks very much that is kind of you
  9. Thanks for that I shall look into it, do you know if people use companies for building homes such as Dale Alcock or Collier Homes?
  10. Hi We have been living in Perth for almost 5 years and whilst it is lovely I hate the summer and the flies and over east is too humid, so I have been looking into Tassie but as OH is a brickie we are wondering how much work is there and what are the wages like. I have researched and see that there is a skills shortage for the trade but as yet can't find out if that is true! We are planning on a reccie soon as I am missing the cooler weather and the UK countryside. Any advice is glady appreciated
  11. Well I called the Ocean Keys Vet and the lady said absolute minimum is 3 weeks prior to departure for the Rabies Injection, however it will last a full year so as we don't yet have a date I will get it done soon as I can't see it taking a year to sell up!! I also rang Quantas about diy pet transfer and the lady was very helpful and has emailed me all the details regarding costing. vet checks where to get crates and measurements. She also said if I call back with the measurements of the pets then I will get an accurate quote, this I shall do and then I assume I add the price of the crates on top....at this stage I don't know if it is going to be cheaper than Jetpets quote but I will post back. It is quite a scary thought to send your pets yourself but then again don't we book ourselves on flights and attend medicals for immigration  and I'd never done that before, so I'm sure it will be ok if the price is right.
  12. Hi Spriggs family. Thanks for that I was going to call the vet today at Ocean Keys, a friend was telling me yesterday it had to be 6 months prior for the jab and although I felt sure it had changed you have reassured me as I was getting a little worried there. I have heard on hear good things about Jetpets but as we are the same as Shelduck and maybe taking a loss on the house!! Therefore I thought it may be good to save money as we are looking at flying with Quantas as we have almost enough points for 2 of us to fly one way back. Not actually sure when we are leaving as we have to get the house sold but as soon as we can we will go back. I see you are from Peterborough we were living near Kings Lynn before moving to Perth.
  13. How long before you leave do you have to get the rabies jab? We have a Pomeranian and a Labrador as well as a cat........been quoted $4500 with Jetpets but if there is room to save more and it's not difficult to to diy then I will look into it.
  14. Not sure what you mean there dieselboy? Please elaborate... Stevie - Take cash for sure as long as it's real haha gpo1971, thanks, do you wanna buy it? They are building quite a big house on that block and have left no garden to speak of.
  15. Bravo .... My sentiments exactly and lets hope it doesn't take too long to pull on those comfy ole slippers and leave our thongs behind lol
  16. Wow, you put my thoughts in words, everything you say is how I feel and your experiences are the same as ours, how come we never met ? We too are heading home after 4 and half successful years in Perth. To all those who are yet to get to Oz, that rollercoaster you are on....will be worth it because it is living a dream to start with, exciting and yet challenging, you get out what you put in. I will never say we failed because we gave it a real good shot and we have tried hard but now we are lucky enough to be able to choose to go back and this is because after a certain amount of time your priorities change. So it's for the people we love and not the material side we can replace. Do you know it amazes me how so many people particularly those who live here, say why the hell would you want to back to that s***hole , well we do and that's because I for one love it there and I love Australia too but I can't have both. So for all of those friends and relatives that said they would come and live here and believe me a few even tried but they were not so lucky, we go back to them. Our citizenship is on 23rd Feb and this is more for our children's future, they will not have the expense and stress of applying and if they do come back and IF our parents have passed on, well we may too. Leaving the UK was easy not because we hated it there but because Australia was our dream, a life experience and adventure......... going back was a hard decision at first because we felt torn by what we have and all the doom and gloomers who say are you mad!!!:nah: In the end we worked out that most of them didn't have the strong family ties and/or the deep friendships we have. Now it's an easy choice because those are the things we miss the most. It broke my heart when we couldn't afford to go back for my brother's wedding and we have missed 2 more since! Also 2 births and now our eldest is due in April, a grandson to look forward too. All those family gatherings are irreplaceable to us...... and then sadly passing of my Nan on Jan 27th this year, whom was such a huge part of my life, has just put it all in perspective and made us all say that's it now before anyone else dies, we value there company and lives more than what we have here. Ever grateful for the experience and now have a mountain to climb, or so it feels. House to sell, cars, furniture and the list goes on but we can't wait to go now our minds are made up. So good luck to you and look forward to the future

  18. hormonal? are you joking? re read the thread and tell me he wasnt trying to be a smart ass. who the hell knows what a lapa is. thats why i called it an african hut as its commonly known. i see you chatter boxes stick together, keep up the comments and youll soon be up to 10000 between you both. yaaah
  19. clearly thats why i called it an african hut, cos im in perth, who the hell would know its a lapa (except you). its also 12.30 at night so no extreme heat, if there was i would have the aircon on. i dont need the thread bumped, if your not interested in the thread then dont comment, and stop trying to rub people up the wrong way. maybe your stressed cos its so bloody cold over there and theres a slight bit of jealousy.
  20. gazza

    perth or sydney???

not been to sydney, we live in perth and find there is not much to do. been to gold coast and thats amazing, so much to see and do, best place ive ever been to. and ive been to a lot of countries. perth does have amazing beaches and everything is nice and clean, just lacks things to do.
  21. you should be shot for using the word dude. we researched for ages about getting a bali hut or an african hut and have never seen anyone advertise a lapa, would be interested to see a responce from an ozzie salesperson if you asked for one. think you might just be trying to be clever. if so well done ive now learnt what they are called in africa, not australia. here there called african huts, i know this cos i bought one.
  22. i wouldnt say the building work in perth is massive, ive been here 4 years now and started with a contractor but i now work for myself doing work for collier homes. we are working as a 4 and 1 and are the only gang they have have NOR. we are always being asked if we have any work by brickies we used to work with, because work is tight. the main day for jobs to be advertised is on a wednesday in the paper WEST AUSTRALIAN and at the moment your lucky to see five jobs. we needed a brickie last month and put an add in the paper and we got over a hundred phone calls by 2pm. its different here that you dont get people walking on site asking for a start, dont know why. if you are a good attention to detail bricklayer then when you get a start youll be fine, but if your one of the other types who just wants to earn money then in my opinion you will moving from job to job. if you do move to NOR and are looking for work then let me know, we might be looking for someone. oh if your interested the rates for daywork are between $240 to $250 a day.if you need any other info let me know. gary
  23. not sure if im allowed to post this, but if anyone is interested in living in butler, perth. and all you want to do is get of the plane and get a taxi to an address and unpack your bags and start living the dream then look no further. we are selling our 4x2 house with pool and large 6m x 3m african hut bar area, and all furniture and appliances. then look us up.
