hiya does anyone know if your a carpenter and got a job in the mines in WA do you get paid for your week off, we have heard so many diff reports and totally confused. If you dont get paid then why do people head up there if the average hourly rate isnt much more than in Perth (sorry just cant get my head around it) also do most companies pay your flight up and down or how does that work, just hubby thinking of going up,

Hi Maisie

In a nutshell If you are working on a casual basis you wont get paid for your time off but will get penalty rates also. If you are fulltime you get paid for time off but just get a yearly salary. Your flights are paid for.

The reason to do it is because the hours you work, work 84hrs per week and 40hrs of that at the normal time the rest at overtime rates if you are casual. The time you are on site you pay for nothing so its a good way to save money. It depends a lot on the company and type of roster you are working. We have blue collar workers working for us making over $180k but they work for 4 weeks straight then have one week off.

Hope that helps
