Splash77
..ive been reading about b12 deficiency, does anyone know the correct blood level's in australia? because after going to the doctor's to be checked i was told i was ok with a reading of 190 pg/ml. I know in the uk/europe if its under 500 pg/ml you need to have injection's...does anyone have any knowledge of this. cheers...
Guest haunted1234
I have pernicious anaemia and have B12 approximately every 2-3 months. not sure on the blood levels though sorry. However, my prescription was $20 and that was for 9 months worth of jabs which i thought was very reasonable. speak to your GP, as it's something you cant do without if you're deficient. signs and symptoms are usually a tell tale sign though. i know when i need a jab as i feel lethargic, nauseous, my memory is shocking, headaches etc. there is a website for pernicious anaemia im sure they would be able to help. Good Luck x it can also effect your liver enzymes...as id gone a while undiagnosed my doc said i had the liver of an alcoholic!
RockDr
Just a thought, but are you sure of your units here? it's possible one country measures in picomoles/volume rather than picograms/volume which could explain the discrepancy in values. JoandJon
Talk to your GP and ask them to explain the results to you It's always the safest alternative!
RockDr
Just found the conversion factor 1.35 pg/ml = 1 pmol/l according to the bmj: Generally, serum vitamin B12 can be broken down into 3 values: Likely vitamin B12 deficiency: <148 picomols/L (<200 picograms/mL) Possible vitamin B12 deficiency: 148 to 258 picomols/L (201 to 350 picograms/mL) Unlikely vitamin B12 deficiency: >258 picomols/L (>350 picograms/mL). http://bestpractice.bmj.com/best-practice/monograph/822/diagnosis/step-by-step.html
Guest The Pom Queen
I can't do it now but I will have lots of blood results somewhere as I am B12 deficient, it would take forever to go through all my notes though, but if no one can help I will have a look through and see what I can find.
