surfndirt
Hi all, Further to my recent posts, and the fact I am still waiting to start the new job (and have now run out of youtube videos showing dogs swimming in the bath or what-ever) - thought I'd add some cost summaries for those that are interested; Based on two people in a three bed house (no kids) House Mortgage = $3200 a month (P & I) for a normal house in a normal suburb in Melbourne, not flash and not the places you've probably heard of. Does not include the purchase costs of cars etc. Shopping $200 a week (only 2x of us and we shop for bargains) ($10,400) $40 a week for lunches for two people (this is not going to the cafe at lunch time) ($2080) Petrol $12 a week for the 600cc motorbike (Commute) ($624) $7 a week for the scooter (Commute) ($364) $35 a week of lpg for a XR6 (drive to bush to ride dirt bike) ($1050) Entertainment (1x a fortnight) Eating out (at a cheap pub); $10 Garlic Bread $18 bucks for a parma $23 for a steak $8 bucks a pint X 2 $7.50 a white wine X 2 So approx $75 ($1950) Going out in the town after work (1x a month); $10 - 15 bucks a pint Geez, you can easily drop $150 on a decent sized night out..... ($1800) Total: $18,268 Bank, insurance & Govt charges; $49,076 General living costs; $18,268 Grand Total; AUD$67,344 There are probably tons of stuff I've missed - like a good 6 pack of beer (little creatures) @ $22. Yep, not a misprint - $22 for six beers. A normal drop will be $16 (Coopers Green).

surfndirt
Yeah, In the spirit of not laying one's cards on the world wide web table - we are a middle income household, i.e. not 250k a year and not 80k a year. I forgot to add; $1400 a year health insurance (basic package to aviod more tax) $2400 a year mobile phone bills (x2 people) As can be assumed - I have done the maths on the eqiv cost of living in the UK and it is far far cheaper. For example, upfront running costs of all our machines (prices in pounds); Cars 98' Golf = 165 a year registration, 400 insurance (565) 06' 207 (diesel) = 30 a year registration, 400 insurance (430) Tolls = 0 Motorbikes 600cc Road bike = 50 a year registration, 90 insurance (140) 200cc scooter = 25 a year registration, 100 insurance (125) 250cc dirt bike = 25 a year registration, 150 insurance (175) 125cc dirt bike = 15 a year registration, 80 insurance (95) Total in UK: 1530 pounds (AUD$2,276) Total in Australia: AUD$4,
