Guest The Pom Queen
Qantas is to review the number of engineering centre it operates and the future of one of the two it operates in Victoria looking uncertain. The airline has an engineering base at Tullamarine servicing Boeing 737s and another at Avalon looking after Boeing 747s. The 747 fleets is being slimmed down raising concerns over the Avalon base but Qantas is not saying which centre will close. As part of changes to its route structure, Qantas will be adding additional Airbus A330 services to Perth from Melbourne starting May 6.
Guest AKA63029
Not wholly on topic Kate, but Singy are ending their use of the 747's in April of this year and are offering special flights to acknowledge this land mark. Sad state of affairs when the 747's are COMPLETELY' out of service, many a happy memory sitting on board one of these great aircraft. Cheers Tony. thombatt
As a result of Union action and political interference there is a great danger that Qantas will become uncompetitive in the international arena and will end up been a high cost domestic only airline or will end up having huge subsidies from the taxpayer (like the car industry) for little or no gain for the taxpayer. It will be a work for the dole system in disguise.
