StevelandWonder
We are currently in the process of applying for our visa and our investigating the renting market, is it uncommon for houses to be rented furnished as all we can see is unfurnished. This will add to our cost significantly. What are other peoples experiences. Thanks

Guest Guest31881
you will find the vast majority of rentals are unfurnished, you can get furnished property and a lot of members book into furnished while they sort themselves out. You will find furnished is expensive alternative, If you tell us what area you would like to rent in, some of the members may have ideas for you. Guest guest57545
we got our furnished place in Manly during peak run up to summer without too many problems. We actually had a choice of two. They are only flats though i wouldn't know about houses tempted to say most unfurnished
nicolaj
You can rent furniture, but this is really only a short term option as it can work out expensive. You also need to consider the cost of shipping your goods over vs the cost of either renting via furnished property or renting stuff. White goods are actually quite expensive in comparison to the UK. We had quotes for shipping from John Mason for about £3700 for sole use of a 20ft container. You can get the costs down if you are prepared to share a container. Most properties have built-in wardrobes in the main rooms, so you can slim down by leaving any freestanding wardrobes. Have a massive cull of your stuff so you are literally down to the bare essentials to bring over, again cutting down on shipping costs. In my opinion, in the long run, it is probably cheaper to pay the shipping costs to bring your stuff over than pay the extra for a furnished place. Guest The Pom Queen
98% of long term rentals are unfurnished. You can get furnished short term which also includes utilities but you don't really want to be staying in this longer than 4 weeks especially as the price is around $800pw. Go to Fantastic Furniture and buy a home starter package for $2000 and then look on eBay, gumtree for your white goods.
