Skani
Why are you worried? And stop panicking! In Tasmania children normally start school - kindergarten - in February in the year in which they turn 5. The following year is called Prep and is full time, the year after that is Grade 1. My (foster) grandson has his birthday in December so he was only 4 and 2 months when he started school. He has just turned 6 and goes into Grade 1 this year. He has been doing numeracy and literacy work since starting kinder and his teacher says he is already reading at Grade 3 level. This is at the local state primary school (South Hobart). The parents receive very detailed written reports on progress from the beginning of Kindergarten. You'd have to contact the individual schools for fees. The cheapest are probably the Catholic schools. I think they start around $1200 a year at that age. The most expensive would be The Friends' School . I know they are around $20,000 a year by years 11 and 12 but do not know the early primary years. This website will give you information about any school in Australia http://www.myschool.edu.au/ This shows the sort of basic information it gives about any school (in this case South Hobart Primary http://www.myschool.edu.au/MainPages/SchoolProfileRep.aspx? SDRSchoolId=610000000319&DEEWRId=8064&CalendarYear=2010&RefId=emBdtl%2b25ivc6UrB7SVsfQTedJPixn1U then it has further links which will take you to more info about the school including results in the standardised Naplan tests and comparisons with other similar schools. Skani
If you still have trouble go to the home page http://www.myschool.edu.au/ and type in South Hobart Primary School in the "Search by school name" box. This is an Australia wide search site provided by the Australian government. The Tasmanian Government also has information about each school, eg http://schoolimprovement.education.tas.gov.au/2010/SchoolInfo.aspx?School=6260 And each school has a website which it also manages - but I can't access the state school ones at the moment. Maybe the websites are on holidays with the staff and students?
