bry45
Hi all Does anyone know if there are any carpenters jobs in the mines, any mine anywhere, surely they have doors and flooring and windows in there offices, which would mean they must need maintenance men. They can't all be dumper drivers or mechanics or boiler makers or ............. I would love to get a job in the mines and move to Oz, any help or a nod in the right direction would be very well received. Thank you. Eera
None of the ones I've worked at have residential carpenters; generally mine buildings (apart from critical infrastructure like the prep plant) are demountables from people like Atco, anything else is done by contractors. Have a look at the suppliers of camps like ESS, The MAC Services etc and you may find maintenance positions there (which can have pretty generous salaries). Basically there's a big swing away from having people directly employed by the mining companies and emphasis placed on contractors these days; no need for compensation when the cycle swings and they have to be laid off.
