Hi!

I am in the process of moving to Sydney and I would like to know which suburbs are good to live in with a family? I do not want to go too far out as I will be required to commute to Sydney city center.

Our maximum limit is $500 per week and we are looking for at least 2 bedroom apartment.

Any ideas? I was looking at Balmain area as there is a nice primary school there but i am open to suggestions...thanks

I don't know an awful lot about central Sydney, but I would imagine that you might struggle to find somewhere to live in such a central area with a $500 pw budget.

If you have a look at http://www.cityrail.com.au you will be able to see which suburbs are along which train lines and work out what an acceptable commute in terms of time would be, and then have a look a little bit further out. Then have a look at http://www.domain.com.au and http://www.realestate.com.au to have a look at property. You probably won't be able to arrange anything until you get here though.

We live in an area of Sydney called Sutherland Shire which is lovely, and very good for families. It takes around 45 minutes to get to Sydney by train which isn't too bad as far as commute goes, and you would definitely get more for your money down here.

Hi,

We live in Sydney's South Eastern Suburbs and there are a few places you'd get a two bed unit for around $500. The Eastern and South Eastern Suburbs are very family friendly but there's no train line (apart from Bondi Junction) so you'd be getting a bus to the CBD from most places.

Take a look at Maroubra, Malabar, Chifley, Botany, Kingsford, Matraville. All of these places are within 45 minute bus ride of the CBD and have good services for families.

All the best, Sarah
