Guest hays
hello! Can anybody advise me how to set up a bank account for oz while still in the UK? is there anywhere i need to go or can i set one up over the internet? Which banks are the best? Also how easy is it? do i need to provide bankstatements, passport/driving licence etc?? when i set up a new account here a while ago i had to take in loads of stuff. pain in the bum! I just want to start an account that we can start transfering money over to when we have saved up a small lump sum maybe every 1/4 so we dont spend it here! Any advice really appreciated! hays
Guest al&nic
Hi Hays I've contacted a few banks in Australia on the subject and their international advisors have informed me that you need to be on Australian soil to open an account. I'm not sure if they're all like this. You could open an account with HSBC for example who have branches in Australia and when you're ready to go they can have an account open and cards ready for you when you get there. There's a one off fee of £100 for the service. Leaving the UK: HSBC Bank UK Also I don't think it wouldn't be a good idea to be sending money that often unless you were keeping a really good eye on the exchange rate! Better to save it up and get a rate fix from a foreign exchange specialist like HiFX. Emigration overview | emigration | HiFX plc
Guest scholes.mark
Try the commonwealth and westpac websites - you can organise bank accounts from the UK - transfer money in etc; but not back out until you activate them on your arrival in Oz
Guest LeaB
Hi, we are opening a Westpac account which is really easy. You can have your transferred money paid into it. Just to note that once opened you have to deposit money within 3 weeks. We are going to open it mid September and transfer our money beginning of October ready for when we arrive on the 5th. You then go into a branch on arrival and they activate everything for you and give you your ATM cards etc. We are getting a current account and a savings account but you can change things around to whatever suits your needs. Guest hays
thanks for all your replies, i'll call westpac on monday morning. We have a small lump sum with which to start and then want to transfer every 3/6 months. I realise we'll have to keep an eye on the rate, but I really want it transfered out as soon as we have a reasonable sum in our uk savings account. hays:wubclub: ps. thanks for the PM regarding this fizz.x
