 Hi all, my husband and i sent our visa app off in December 05,he is an electician and we applied for a skilled migrant visa. We started filling in the app last september (did'nt realise the paper work would take soooo long to get together).

We were told it would take 4 to 6 mnths to process, can anybody out there confirm this or are we in for a long wait?

Cheers Sparky.

Hi there sparky

We also applied in december 05, acknowledged on the 19 dec. We have sent off our medicals already, LCU have emailed me confirming receipt and finalisation. The pcc are with our agents just waiting for our case officer (when we eventually get one) to ask for them. My husband is also a electrician, where abouts are you going? My hubby is having a interview on Tuesday, so he is very nervous. This wait is really killing us, our house has been "sold" three times now, just cant get to see the light at the end of that tunnel. Hope all works out, will keep you informed as to our progress, let us know if you hear anything.

cheers,

shakatara

Hi Shakatara

Thanx for quick reply,my husband has made contact with a company in Brisbane who are interested in him(still early stages though) so we will see where this takes us ,otherwise we will stay with relatives in Melbourne if visa comes through and he has no job.Where are you guys hoping to go?I know how you feel about the housing situation,we are now staying with my parents (me ,hubby ,2 kids) as the lease was up on our place and we did'nt want to lease for another 6 mnths incase the visa comes through,it's just like living in limbo .We have sent our police checks with app but did'nt want to do the medicals incase the year expired before we got anywhere. Is your hubby going for a job interview?

Good luck anyway.

I'm not suprised you're fed up waiting! I'm going CRAZY already and we only lodged our application a couple of weeks ago! How long will it take for them to let us know they know we exist? Will they let us know by our e-mail or will they tell our agent?

Also what's the significance of a case officer, up untill you have one is our paperwork just sat in a pile, seen only in order of it arriving there, are any fast tracked?

Loads of questions..........I think I'm becoming obsessed

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE! :D

Hi everyone,

The waiting is unreal, we immigrated from South africa to the uk, and i thought that was stressful. My hubby has a phone interview with the human resources officer and manager of a company over the phone i imagine on speaker phone, we had a emloyment company arrange it all from oz. We are hoping to go to queensland, originaly to brisbane area, but dont mind where as long as we get there. This job is in Cairns, very north queensland, which i believe is lovely, even if it is so hot you can hardly breath, but we will adjust im sure

As for the waiting for the case officer, i am not sure about all that actually, i have just left it in the hands of our agents. If i find out about anything else i will be in contact.

cheers,

shakatara

Hi all,

From what i have heard your app is just sat in a pile waiting for a case officer to look at it and tell you if they need more info and police checks and if they think your a possible they ask you to go for the medical(i think, having not got a case officer yet i;m not 100% sure). They should send a letter to confirm they have recieved your app with a reference number ,although we did not go through an agent so i don't know if the letter goes to you or your agent.(good luck anyway).

Happy Easter too.

Hi All

We too applied in December, acknowledged on the 9th December and got assigned a case officer on the 31st March. We were asked to go for medicals and get police clearances. Meds done on 7th April and sent to Sydney yesterday and police checks came through today so will be sent tomorrow.

You cannot help but live and breathe Australia as soon as you apply because it is something that you really want to do and as a child would, you want it NOW!!! It is the most frustrating time of your life and I sympathise with all of you, the wait is still awful once you have a case officer cos then you are just waiting for an answer all the time!

You will receive confirmation by email if you stated this as your prefered way of communicating and we got ours about 2 weeks after they received the application (we did it ourselves and not through an agent)

We are still unsure of where to go as we've got family in Sydney and they want us to move there to be with them but hubbie has got a possible job offer in Perth where we have friends who've just moved there in February. It's a hard choice to make and after looking on all the forums and seeing that house prices are rising steadily it makes me want to get there even sooner. We put the house on the market 2 weeks ago and have had 3 viewings but we are not saying we are emigrating cost they'll try to get money knocked off for a quick sale - it's doing my head in!

Lets keep fingers and toes crossed that everyone hears something soon- keep us all posted!

Hi Sparky,

I'm too a spark in lincs, I have been assesed by the TRA as a general electrician :D

The skilled migration visa just being sent off now, have you heard about the licences that we have to get to work out there?

I'm hoping that i can get them here but i expect you have to do them on arrival. I guess our best option is to get employed by an Oz firm that will let you get these licenses whilst you are working there.

Do you knowledge of this or does anyone else out there know?

Good question Neil, Sorry I haven't got the answer but I'm sure it's the same for plumbers. I did read a post on here about it. I think the rules vary from state to state :?: :?: :?:

Hi Neil,

what I have found out is that if you are a general sparks ie domestic ,comercial and industrial installer you would need to pass a local test ie license for each teritory, which will also put you into a grade of spark ,grade A is someone that can do all types of electrical work without supervision and do all the tests required ,much like a sparks say with NIC EIC certificates ,as your expertise differs so will your grade, but yes you will need to attend college once you arrived (I believe it is only a week course or so).it might help having a job but you would still need to get a license.

I have a job as a linesmen for a air mobile company :D ,as long as my linesmen trade is recognised by the TRA (which it is ) I will not need to get a license as it is a specialised trade(which is a bonus) .

Hope this helps.

Hi All

I'm a newie. Have read all your posts and just want to say....

we're in your club.

We submitted our visa application mid April having already got the TRA approval. But up until now not even an acknowledgement. We had our police checks done and the meds were booked for tomorrow, (on our own preassumption and our agents that we would get a CO by now) But I cancelled them yesterday. Our agent has said that we prob won't get a CO for a few weeks as all the applicants previously applied are being dealt with to try approve their visas by June. Something about June being the deadline date for getting 'x' number of applicants out.

So needless to say we are really disappointed and I :? :( am biting my nails just waiting, and waiting, very impatiently.

We are hoping to go to WA, we have 5 kids and no pets.

Someone talk to me please cos I can't stand being alone in my own thoughts.

San

:(
