THE ULTIMATE GUIDE to FANTASTIC OZ

Hi

Re: Thornton's Chocs

I think you can get them in some places in Oz - usually the food halls of large department stores. I did some promotional work for them at Myer's in Perth - I was a very popular girl that day!!

Things may have changed of course - this was in 1998 - maybe they've got chains all over the place now - I can live in hope!!

Bye for now

Jo

Hi Jo:

Good news about Thornton's... I'll have to check the website to check status...

So what other Tassie Delights can you share with us??

Thanks to Everyone for Sharing UR AllStars!! :cute:

Herbster - Licking his lips at the prospect of Yummy Tassie Goodies...

Well I now see that my Advanced problem is with my computer as my laptop is behaving correctly! Curious...

Do you know if there is much difference between, say Hobart & Burnie, in the North?

Also, can I pick your brains – what kind of tax/duty do they levy on insurance policies?! Seems so old fashioned, but stealth taxes aren’t obvious, & I’d prefer to be pre-warned…!

I think that the temperature would be fairly comparable but northwest Tas gets a lot of rain, so would expect Burnie to get substantially more than in Hobart. www.weatherzone.com.au or Home Page - Bureau of Meteorology both have a lot of historical data on average / max / min temperatures, rainfall etc for the weather stations

Insurance taxes vary depending on the type of insurance and state. GST (10%) is paid on all premiums except for private health insurance. Some states also have fire services levy and stamp duty. I don't think Tas has fire services levy but GST and stamp duty would probably apply. I'm not sure the exact stamp duty as it would vary depending on the value of the insurance. As with all insurance just get a number of quotes and ask for detailed breakdowns of the total cost.

Hope that helps!

Where to begin there are so many favourites!

Favourite views - flying past Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge and the Glass House Mountains.

Favourite place - Caloundra, cant wait to settle there when we move over.

Favourite food - Was from a little bar in Noosa (not sure what it was called but it was delicious!!)

Exciting - Seeing whales playing whilst walking along the beech in Caloundra and Noosa!

Favourite day out - Oz zoo...fantastic, especially as I love roo's!

Favourite night out - getting a little (haha!) tipsy at Jo and Pauls new pad!

Also that everyone is so friendly and helpful, and the kids are so polite!

Ahhhh....I want to be back there now!

Hi Midget: :)Think I missed this reply, sorry - trouble with having 2 computers!!

I read this thing about some kind of pesky tax on Insurance premiums which I didn't like the look of, & wondered if it was enough to put people off, having certain types of insurance; but would this be applied to house + contents!? Obviously we all pay VAT on most everything here at 17%, mostly, which is greater than 10%, :sad:but I wonder if they make up the revenue thru all kinds of unfamiliar taxation; not that I'm suspicious you understand!! I daren't start a thread of our least favourite OZZY things! But it does seem Ozzy taxation - its methods & rates - might be pretty close to the top.

Thanks for all your advice,I keep a daily weather check for Launceston & Hobart, but not much help when everything's upside down!! (ie I'm trying to sleep during their best weather!)

Anyway, glad to see folks still have plenty of positive things to report from The Land Down Under, but I'm shocked there's nothing from the North & not much from the West - come on guys, Big Up Your Big Country!!

Cheers,

Herbster XX :twitcy:

The view from Mount Wellington over Hobart & beyond on a bright & breezy morning certainly is one of the most Amazing Views ANYWHERE! :v_SPIN:

The white sandy beaches of Cole's Bay and Beau Maris with barely a soul besides seabirds...

Bridport Beach - just delightful for its beautiful crystal sands & clear warm water - just like the Med!

A night at The Play House, Hobart with great armature theatrics!

Also Fab non-irradiated food Everywhere! :notworthy:

All the FanTassieTastic people we met & will be returning to soooooon! :cute:

Here's a few of our favourite things:

Our favourite chair lift is Arthur's Seat, Port Phillip Bay on the Mornington Peninsula

Our favourite Sunday Morning breakfast is on the street at a little cafe in St Kilda followed by a stroll along the hippy market on the seafront

Our favourite waterfall is McKenzie Falls in the Grampians, Victoria - stunning views and fond memories (see our pictures in the gallery)

Felicity's favourite koala is Dundee who gave her a big cuddle at Currumbin, Queensland (see our avatar)

Michael's favourite animals are the pair of tassie devils going hell for leather all day at Currumbin

Felicity's favourite dinner was posh nosh (especially the kangaroo) on the Tram Car Restaurant travelling through Melbourne at night

Our favourite casino is Crown in Melbourne - Felicity could watch the jumping water fountains all evening while Michael wishes he had endless supplies of cash for the roulette table

Will keep thinking and maybe add a few more favourites at a later date.

What a fab idea Herbster - you really are one clever bear

We are living in Mornington roughly an hour and a quarter drive from the city and we love it here. The more we see of the peninsula, the more we love this part of the world. I'm not too sure on Geelong - we have only stopped for a quick walk or driven through on our way up the Great Ocean Road.

Hi Felicity

Many thanks for your reply. I don't suppose you have any photos you could send me. Also, my husband is an electrician, is there work around the area? Any information you could give me would be much appreciated. My email is: cushtymebabe@hotmail.com

I look forward to hearing from you.
