Experienced Recruiters needed, my company will sponsor!

Hey people. Haven't posted in a little while, but loving it here in Melbourne and finally getting used to working and living here after 2 months.

Having sponsored me to come across, my boss is keen to find others like me who are enthusiastic and experienced recruiters and will arrange 457 visas for them. You will be based in our offices in Melbourne CBD and have a specific technical specialisation to focus on, which works well here.

The Melbourne market is very different from the UK; very relationship based, therefore, probably not best suited to agressive recruiters used to transactional business. If you are great at networking and relationship building, organised, friendly and tenacious, you can make good money here. Also, it's a lot easier getting to Senior Management and getting information you need which is a breath of fresh air from London/South East IT recruiting.

Applicants must be committed to making the move already as no financial/relocation assistance will be provided. If you have been on holiday previously or have family here, that would certainly help my boss feel secure in your motivaton to be here.

If you are genuinely interested, have proven success as a recruiter including checkable references and have ideally recruited within the IT&T field, then get in touch and I will pass your details to my manager.

This is a genuine request and I can share information on what the process is like. Be prepared, once you have an offer, the visa takes around 6-8 weeks to process.

Your partner/spouse can also be included on the visa and is free to work without restriction.

Look forward to hearing from a few of you as dreams really can come true.

Hi PJ,

I am in the final stages of the Visa process on a 457 with my family (wife and child) also included on the visa. I have over 10 years IT Recruitment, Outsourcing and IT Managed service delvery experience and have accepted a post with Hudson.

From your posting below, I am curious to pick your brain about the market place and how you have found things in terms of buildong relationships in Australia..? The reason I ask, I am amazed at the amount of "english" recruiters out in Oz and it seems that there is a fantastic opportunity for anyone with any amount of recruitment experience? is this the case..

We are due to be in Oz in June and will be based up on the Gold Coast.. I understand that the market there is different again..?

Any info, thoughts or comments would be welcomed... It sounds like you and your boss have some interesting opportuniies there too.... have you managed to fill the roles??? what level are you looking to recruit at... Consultant, team leader, manager or business manager levels....

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards

Ian

Hi Ian

Thanks for the post and good luck with the Hudson role. My friend from the UK recently arrived in Adelaide working for Hudson too.

Things are different here, although each state appears to have it's own identity and ways of working. In Melbourne, sales is very relationship based, Sydney seems to be more transactional and Brisbane/Gold Coast I couldn't really comment but our office does really well there.

I hit target last month and expecting to blow this months target. Not a bad start after 3 months. The market is a lot less saturated although has shifted far more to perm from contract recently, although, it doesn't affect my Sales & BDM practice greatly.

I've been recruiting anything from Sales Support to Sales Directors and everything in between if that answers your question.

Best of luck with the move and I am jealous of the weather you'll be moving into as it's getting really cold in Melbourne. The grid systems means the wind howls down the roads first thing in the morning and it's time to buy a scarf and gloves.

I'm applying to perm residency as the 457 visa is making me a little nervous and restrictions on buying property are annoying. However, it's a great way of deciding if you want to be here long term and not having to wait 12-15 months for a decision.

Keep in touch, it's nice to have others in the industry making the move and sharing their experiences. I think there are so many UK recruiters here as like the UK, so many people leave the industry as it is tougher than people expect and once you've made it in the UK, Australia is a pleasure.

Take care

Hi PJ,

You might be able help me - Id really appreciate it if you could as I have been tearing my hair out trying to find an answer!

I went to Oz in straight after I got my degree and fell in love with the place. I really wanted to stay and tried to get sponsored but it was impossible.I am now back home in Ireland working successfully as a Recruitment Consultant for the last few months. I am already saving to go back as it will be for good next time. I am going to hopefully get sponsored as a Recruitment Consultant but I dont know when I should start applying for jobs. I know that there are recruitment companies that help overseas candidates but from the research Ive done their are mixed opinions on how much experience you need to get sponsored. Some agencies say they will sponsor after 6 months, others after 12 mts, others 2 years. Do you know which is possible? Im hoping that I wont have to wait 2 whole years to go back to that beautiful country!

Also do you think past work exp would be taken into consideration for sponsorship - I have worked in business development at college with a small construction company of a family friend, but I dont think I could put on my CV with regards to reference checks etc as I was not paying tax, more so helping them out. I hope to hear back from you soon.

Regards,

Tara
