Guest JLT
We will most likely be needing to apply for a 176 visa so waiting (and waiting!) to see if WA will sponsor hubby for IT. I should be an expert by now, but I'm not, so I'm asking if someone can tell me the order in which we do things. I know the ACS assessment comes first. But does the Visa application come next or State Sponsorship application? Can someone please clarify for me?

Guest barrytheplumber
hi, we have a sub class 176 visa. We used an agent ! After you pass the online assessment, the 176 visa has 2 stages. Firstly you have to have your trade qualifications recognised by the TRA ( Trades Recognition Australia ) this takes about a month from when you log your qualifications with them. Then if you pass this you then have to fill in an application form which is a more personal form filling in process. Once the forms are complete and you have all your references and your agent is happy that you have all the paperwork, then you log your application along with the TRA approval with Austarlian immigration. In my opinion I would recomend you use an agent because they will save you a lot of time by checking your application form for any mistakes and they are there for you if you have any questions on how to fill the paperwork in... Good luck ! see you on the beach.. Barry.
Guest Batfinktasha
Hiya I think it was done in this order. Skills assement, WA sponsorship (took 6 months to come through) then lodge 176 with out the sponsorship you can only do the 175 and then change to 176 once through but this could delay it as advised by agent. Wait for case officer to assigned who tells you to go for medicals and get police checks then all done. Good luck what ever you do.
Guest JLT
Thanks everyone for replying. Hope SS doesn't take 6 months tho! We thought aiming for 2 years was very realistic. Maybe we should be planning for 3 instead. Jo

Jo it used to only take 10 working days until about january 2009 we applied first for a 175 visa then changed over when the DIAC made some changes to the CSL, it took us 15 weeks to get ours but i believe it takes more like 6 months now. Guest Mango1402
Hi, I'm also on a 176 for WA as an IT Project Manager... Here's my list of things we did.. 1. Find an Agent... (PTLabs are very good. Specialise in IT migrants) 2. Lodge ACS skills assessment. If your hubby hasn't got a degree then I think he may also need an RPL first/instead. Positive assessment took around 3-4 months from submission. 3. Go on a reccy holiday. 4. Lodge WA sponsorship. Agent will tell you exactly what you need to include in this, and the best option to chose in terms of Hubby's skill set. I also waxed lyrical about Perth, and could detail where we'd want to live, and how we'd manage financially. This was all made possible by the info we gained on holiday. Not sure if it affected the decision, but it made us more positive about moving to Perth. Confirmation of sponsorship took 6 months. 4. Submit 176 Application, including reference to your WA sponsorship. Mine submitted March 2010, and i'm still waiting. (Though i was lucky enough to be offered a job in the meantime on a 4 year 457 visa!) 5. Wait.... Hope this helps, and good luck! Andy

OH doesn't have degree in IT (English and MBA) so we're doing the RPL. And we've tried to contact PTLabs but heard nothing from them as yet. Looks like we're pretty much on the right track.
