SOME KNOWLEDGE FOR THOSE WHO ARE TOO YOUNG FOR BUS PASSES

We were born before T.V, penicillin, polio, frozen foods, plastics,

contact lenses and the pill. We had no radar, credit cards, split

atoms, laser beams and ball point pens. Tights were worn by principal

boys in pantomime. We knew nothing of washing machines, dishwashers,

tumble dryers, electric blankets, air conditioning and all mod cons.

We got married and THEN lived to-gether- very quaint.

Closets were for clothes and not for coming out of of! Designer jeans were

scheming girls called Jean and having a meaningful relationship meant

getting on well with the family.

There were no House-Husbands, gay rights, computer dating, dual

careers and computer marriages. There were no day care centres or group

therapy sessions. No F.M. radio, tape recorders, electronic

typewriters, artificial hearts, pacemakers, word processors or yoghurt.

Time sharing meant togetherness and not computers or holiday flats. A

chip was something you ate, hardware meant hardware and we had never

heard of software. If it was made in Japan it was it was rubbish goods.

Pizzas, MacDonalds and coffee powder were unheard of, but we did have

Camp Coffee.

There were 30 and 50 shilling Tailors. You could buy things for 3d.

and 6d. For a penny you could buy an ice-cream or send a letter. For

2d. you could make a phone call and a new car cost about £100.

To smoke cigarettes was fashionable. Grass was mowed. Coke was

something you drank and Pot was something you cooked in. Rock music was

a lullaby your Grandma sang and AIDS were helpers.

We were very happy that the sexes were different and we knew nothing

of sex changes or gender bending.

We made do with what we had and were so stupid that we thought babies

should have a

Mother and a Father.

NO WONDER THAT THERE IS SUCH A GENERATION GAP TO-DAY.

NB I am not old enough for a bus pass but just thought this was amusing and wanted to share!!!!!

Hi Koala12,

Very amusing, not quite old enough for a bus pass either, but feeling old enough for one today, its my 40th birthday, geez where has the time gone. Opened all my cards from family and friends in the UK this morning, had a little cry cos for some reason miss them more than ever today! Still a new girl here, just 5 months but I am sure that all the new wonderful friends I have made here in Oz will make it a very special Aussie birthday. Happy Birthday to anyone who has a birthday coming up, and good luck to all who are making the move over soon!!!!!!!!!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!

Can understand you feeling a bit teary today when you so far from your family & friends and it's a special day! I had a birthday when I'd just been here a month and spent the day in tears!!!! When my parents and daughter rang me I just broke down and had a really good cry!!!! I'm due for the big 50 in October and dreading that both because it sounds so bloody old and I don't feel it or look it (she says modestly!!!) and also because I'll not be spending it with my own family/friends other than my husband and daughter who's here and perhaps some of his family. I've been here just over 8 months now and also still feel like a new girl!!!

Have a lovely day......

:P Karen
