Hi all. This is such a great resource that i was hoping for some opinions on the best time to fly out for our holiday. We are looking at travelling to oz in 2011 and can go at any time from january onwards. That will be our official reccy and we aim to cover Perth, Sydney and Brisbane.I know the australian kids are on holiday but not sure until when. Is it february or march ? Also looking at a cheaper time to fly but i am guessing that will not be mid summer. Does anyone know when the prices go down a little and how far in advance we can book?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. There is so much to do and we are all very excited but don't want to get it all wrong from the beginning !!

Australian school children are on holiday from just before christmas to the end of January, the actual dates vary from state to state.

Airfares are highest in the period from mid December to Mid January which is peak season, after mid January fares will be slightly lower till April when they tend to rise for a month or so before dropping again during the Australian winter.

If you are looking at coming early in the year the the period around February/March would be good, the weather should be slightly cooler then and airfares will be cheaper.

I suggest checking out sites like -

and Cheap Flights - Compare prices on cheap flights, airlines & last minute deals

to get some idea of fares and accomodation prices.

Good luck, have an enjoyable time in Australia.

Edited to add:airlines reservations systems will let you book up to 330 days in advance so you won't be able to book for 2011 until about February/March 2010.
