LojaChica
They also fly form Newcastle.I have flown many times with them and wouldn't use anyone else. Has anyone managed to get a complimentory upgrade when they asked for one? I have been told that they don't do them!! I work for Emirates! Nice to see all the positive replys:smile: Emirates do not "do" Complimentary Upgrades as such.................You will only be eligible for an Upgrade IF the Flight is "oversold" and you won't know about your possible upgrade until you get to Gate Departure on most occasions! The tip is to turn up "in smart attire" they allow no jeans, board shorts thongs etc in Business Class................If you are a GOLD or SILVER Member of their "Skywards" Frequent Flyer Programme OR single traveller or couple these tend to be the catergories they pick first and in your booking, unbeknown to you there will be an "SFU Code" (Suitable for Upgrade) The Check In Agent will then confirm when you have left if she thinks you fit the criteria SO.............Trick is, smart dress, be polite etc etc PERSONALLY I don't think it's right to judge people on appearance and behaviour as I try not to in a "real world" situation BUT it's all about "image" with Emirates as they are currently ranked 3rd in the World so have a reputation to uphold! Happy Flying!
sandyhex
Hi Joelltah Very interesting reading, my Mum is travelling in June recently widowed therefore a lone traveller very apprehensive especially going that distance alone and will be 72 when she flies, she would love an upgrade but wouldn't be able to afford one so we are all keeping our fingers crossed she is one of the lucky ones, she is visiting my brother on Gold Coast. sandy

My Mum is the same age and widowed so I know exactly how that situation can be for your Mum and you the Family................It's easy to arrange and costs nothing..........It will be especially helpful if she is transiting in Dubai as they have just opened a new Terminal there and its stressful trying to negotiate to the Transit Gate! Fingers crossed for an upgrade for her of course BUT it's still the same anxiety whether you're in Economy or Business don't you agree? Anyway hats off to our Mums for attempting this trip at their age...............way to go Girls!

PS....................Make sure she signs up for her Skywards Programme to get the points and in the future she can use these towards an upgrade...............because of the distance to Oz you'd be surprised how quickly these add up!!!!! PPS...............Is she flying Domestic to the Gold Coast or are they picking her up in SYD?
Guest proud2beaussie
My wife and I flew with them from the UK to Australia in 2007.Still the best airline I have flown with to date. Very comfortable. AND Very good service. No alcohol served on board, but you can bring your own. Booze only makes the jetlag worse on that long flight anyhow. Nutshell - Emirates are brilliant to fly with! Don't know when you last flew with them but the last time I did which was on their inaugural A380 service to Australia they served some of the finest wines in the world, they are acknowedged as having some of the best airline dining in the world. http://www.emirates.com/au/english/flying/dining/wines.aspx

Guest Darwin's coming too
how did you get an upgrade? a flutter of your eyelids?? lol!! nope just got to boarding gate later then the people who'd been given same seat numbers as us. we tried to look cool as we walked htrough 1st into business. think the silly grins on our faces gave away the fact we'd been upgraded - either that or the 2 glasses of champers we had before take off lisa x
