I was refused my tra last year as an aircraft engineer even though id studied for 3 years at degree level and was working as an aircraft engineer with a major airline i think i was refused because i didnt fall into the apprenticeship or traineeship catagories. well after 6 months of hitting the bottle and being depressed i ve applied again as a fitter which i was in the army. I have city and guilds parts 1 to 3 and my full apprenticeship papers so hopefully ill be okay. This has all cost me 700 pounds so far. Im now looking at my visa options whilst waiting on my tra results. Im going for a 176 sponsored option (my aunt lives in Perth). The points so far 60 trade 20 age 15 english and im hoping to find some more. Take an english IELTS test and gain another 10 Wait another 14 months to gain the 3 out of 4 years working in my trade or closely related trade 5 points Claim 15 Modl points for 12 months out of last 24 working in any trade on the Modl list Now my query is where do i find info on if my TRA trade of Maintenance fitter is closely related enough to Aircraft mechanic as i want to make sure this is full proof before putting in visa application Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Skill Level: The entry requirement for this occupation is an AQF Certificate III or higher qualification. wicksy84 Posted March 5, 2009 Author Share Posted March 5, 2009 I know that the tra will assess me on that criteria but when i put my visa application in and claim 15 points for the trade of aircraft mechanic but my tra will say maintenance fitter are these trades close enough. I know that i use the same tools and work on the same systems but will the visa people. It doed say on the visa points test a nominated trade or one closely related must have been worked in for 12 out of the previous 24 months Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I would suspect that a related occupation to fitter falls only under the specialisation professions listed after fitter description.. I think...Anyone out there correct me if im wrong..
